Not to heavy.
Looking at this I thought it maybe in the heavy side. But it’s not. Has a warmer to keep the rice fresh and warm. Easy to use. My son is happy with it.
Very happy but lot of starchy white on cooke
Easy to cook, steams vegetables also, can be used for 4-5 people easily at the same time cooks well for 1-2 also. Only drawback is it bubbles up a lot and leaves white scalpy starch everytime but goes.off with simple wipes. Easy to clean. Overall happy. Could have bought it earlier.
Did full ten cup 20 portion (modest) of washed plain rice for a party no issue (if you don’t wash starch out of rice prior cooking expect some bubbling over) then kept it warm when cooked, there was some sticking base of pan but easy to clean (quick spray of oil prior rice water prevents this) Basmanti rice I did a 6 cup portion and since it’s water take up is higher than plain rice the pot was full so wouldn’t risk a bigger portion you can also use pot to steam veg gyoza ect so item not a one trick pony again keeps it warm.
I love it. I bought since 2021 and still have it
Sorry I didn’t make any revision till today. But yes I do recommend it if the it’s still on marke
Do more than just rice.
ice cooked to perfection or throw in some raw ham cubes sweet corn on top of rice and cook up a rice salad
leave to cool add spring onion salt pepper and mayo or whatever you like but it’s an easy way to do a rice salad.
In the beginning no water would seep out from the the the lid but after a few cooks water would start spitting from the the steam outlet which is really annoying.
Overall it’s a good rice cooker, fits a lot of rice portions that I do for meal prep. Only problem being more often than not you get a little bit of burnt rice around the bottom, tried stirring with a spoon to even out cooking but doesn’t really make a difference
It’s a great rice cooker best advice is to cook it with the steamer in place. Also I cook very little as it’s just me and my little one so 2 cups of rice but every rice is different and water portions I use green dragon Thai jasmine and only needs a little water as it’s a new crop add a little butter. Don’t be discouraged to buy this it’s a great rice cooker I will recommend this one to anyone. Every rice is different cook it first without the rice cooker to understand the rice first.. this is my third rice cooker lifetime.. always place it where it can steam out when cooking.
Works well for 4cups of rice or more
It works well. But you need to add a minimum of 4 cups of rice to zvoid it sticking or burning. Freeze the extra rice using old takeaway containers, defrost and heat in microwave and there is no waste for a family of 2.
For 3 cups of rice it leaves a burnt layer that needs soaked off and it is worse for 2 cups of rice. The instructions do state minimum quantity.
So if used per instructions it works well.
Works fine but too big
Product works great but the minimum cooking size seems to be 4 cups of rice which gives about 5-6 servings so it’s only any good for a large family – too big even for a couple. Even then the water boils up a bit so I wouldn’t want to cook much more than that. For the price it’s perfectly fine but a shame about the lack of flexibility. I’ll have to return.
Not for the small family.
What stunned me about this device, is that I followed the instructions, to the letter, and was rewarded with the best boiled Rice I have ever managed to cook. The drawback to this is that the instructions clearly state that one must prepare enough rice for 4 people. Fine if you are a family of 4 (I’m not) So I am obliged to freeze the excess, which is not too much of an imposition. Plus it will also act as a steamer (not tried that yet) so it isn’t a one-trick pony. I give it the 5 stars for doing exactly what it says on the side of the box. That rice is superb!.
Easy to use but spits water everywhere. A lot of steam comes out of the vent during cooking so would recomend that you place the cooker on the stove top under an extractor fan at full speed.
Cooked my brown rice nicely but would again recomend that you follow the instructions and grease the pot with cooking oil beforehand as if you leave on the stay warm mode then the bottom of the rice browns and forms a skin, quite nice if you want to do egg fried rice but don’t leave too long as the pot is difficult to wash up.
Followed over revivers advise and put steamer on top when using to prevent water spitting out so much. Handy to steam veg for egg fried rice – peppers, peas, etc.
Simply add rinsed rice and water, a pinch of salt and some oil, and turn on. 20 minutes later, fresh delicious rice.
I’d read a few complaints/comments previously btw, and thought it might be beneficial if I shared the following pointers:
1- I always use basmati rice, which has been rinsed, soaked for 10 minutes, then thoroughly drained.
2-Always leave the steaming basket in. Prevents sputtering
3-As soon as the rice is done, I will ‘fluff’ it up with the spoon provided and will leave it on the ‘warm’ setting until serving
4-I have been adjusting the rice to all quantities (1 cup, 1/2 cup etc) and just adding the corresponding amount of water and still getting great results
All in all, a good kitchen gadget.
Good kitchen device. Bought a cheaper cooker that repeatedly burned the rice, so upgraded to the TEFAL cooker. Simple to use but guide infers that less than 600g of rice cannot be cooked. It can, but needs own judgement for the correct rice/water quantities. The ‘keep warm’ feature tends to burn the bottom layer of rice if used for more than a few minutes. Hence overall 4/5 stars.
quite big
I have had different rice makers in the past as I cook basmati rice few times a week and I like my rice to be fluffy but not sticky. I had quite high expectations after reading the reviews for this rice cooker. it is quite big so it is more useful for families of 3 or more. I have tried it 3 times now and tried to use less water but it makes the rice very sticky and gooey. The rice dose not stick to the bottom of the pot and it is easy to clean.
Large size but cooks rice beautifully.
This was much bigger than expected and the instructions say the minimum you can cook at a time is 4 cups. However, since reading other reviews, people have put less in so I’ll try that. Apart from the huge size, it cooks rice beautifully. There wasn’t any spitting with 4 cups and the keep warm function is great. It didn’t come with any instructions but I found some online.
Good quality electrical rice cooker - UPDATED MAY 2020
I’ve cooked rice since I was a teenager – now 29 yo. This is a GREAT rice cooker. Keeps the rice warm when it’s cooked. Very easy to clean and rice doesn’t stick to the bottom.
I’m cooking for 2 person currently, and no sputtering so far. Good size for steaming dim sums and veggies – maybe add paper liner to prevent dim sums from sticking to the steamer basket.
Some of the reviews here complained about sputtering – it’s completely normal when the rice is cooking (especially if it’s at the max capacity). No need to return just because it’s sputtering. 🙂
— UPDATE–
So I’ve used this for quite some time now, and have experimented with different rice types and brands. I’ve cooked Jasmine rice (ANT red pack) and Tesco Basmati Rice – no sputters and rice cooks nicely.
BUT, I’ve recently bought LAILA Basmati Rice since it was on a discount. It sputtered quite badly and left quite a thick layer of crust at the bottom. I normally rinse my rice 2-3 times until it’s clear. Perhaps the rice coating was thicker and needs more rinsing. When it’s thick, that’s when it sputters.
Hope this helps!
We bought this cooker for a two-person household after our last cooker broke. We eat rice almost every day. This cooker is perfectly usable for two people but can also be used for bigger households. It is easy to use with a big and sturdy latch and big lights to indicate if the cooker is cooking the rice, or keeping it warm. It cooks to perfection, without burning the rice, which ever kind of rice you are using: Jasmin, Basmati or glutinous rice and cheap rice or expensive rice. The rice is also kept warm for an indefinite time. You can also turn the device off when the rice is cooked and subsequently warmed for ten minutes, after which the rice is kept sufficiently warm for at least 15-20 minutes.
When cooking the sides of the cooker stay cool so you do not have to worry about the electrical cord becoming damaged or burning yourself. The bowl on the inside of the cooker can be easily taken out to fill and clean after cooking. Make sure you do not damage the bowl by using a metal spoon; always use a plastic one (comes with the device along with a measuring cup) or a bone rice spoon as is used in many Asian countries (we use an Indonesian bone spoon which also works perfectly for both stirring and serving). Clean the bowl with only water or maybe some washing-up liquid and a washing-up brush and the bowl will stay in good shape.
The design is a little different from most rice cookers. It’s bold and other rice cookers are usually a little more narrow and higher. You have to consider this when buying this cooker; make sure you have the room to place the cooker, its maybe an inch or an inch-and-a-half wider than your usual cooker and the same less in height. Having said that, it is a sturdy and bold device and it will look good on most counter tops. Another important feature is the lid; it is sufficiently heavy to stay closed during cooking. Our last cooker had a lid that was to light. When the rice was cooking the lid would ‘dance around’ causing the counter top to get sprayed in cooking liquid.
This cooker is certainly a very good buy and certainly not expensive. We are from The Netherlands and I was pleasantly surprised that the cooker was delivered free of charge! It is definitely worth the money and was delivered withing four days.
There is only one thing that I found disappointing as I unpacked the cooker when it was delivered: the picture on the Amazon website does not accurately show the material of the outside of the cooker. It is of synthetic material (as it’s of course cooltouch) and looks a bit ‘plasticcy’. But after placing the cooker on the counter top I soon got used to it and I am now perfectly happy with it.
Our method of cooking rice is as follows: measure the amount of rice you need in the measuring cup and add water. Shake the rice around so that it’s evenly distributed in the bowl and every grain is submerged in water. No matter how much rice you are cooking, make sure there is about one centimeter of water on top of the rice. Cook the rice and do not stir until the light has changed from cooking to warming. Let the rice warm and stir again before serving. If the rice is sligthly too wet, take off the lid and let it steam for a bit.
