This has the brilliant sir Michael Caine & Glenda Jackson, it will have laughing & crying. I never knew this was a true story and who else could have played this amazing couple, I’m afraid nobody I know. Brilliant script a wonderful feel good movie. I’m in my 60s, I’ve told my children to have me put down, if I need to be looked after(lol). This is well worth purchasing, MC & GJ at their best, I definitely recommend

I have been waiting to see The Great Escaper for some time and planned to purchase the DVD but thanks to Amazon Prime I didn’t need to.
Outstanding performances from both Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson who sadly died not long after this film was completed.
A true story that made me laugh and also brought tears.
I have recommended this film to several people who have also enjoyed it.
When I think about it, this is a true story that hasn’t been sexed up to make it somehow more interesting
in the way that so many films are now.

A beautiful film. Michael Cain and Glenda Jackson are just fabulous. I thought that they would just be themselves as they are both seniors but no, they PLAYED the characters perfectly. Highly recommend.

A lovely film by two great actors. Telling the lovely story of a veteran wanting to go to Normandy to the commemorations Mandy also a lovely story of two people in a care home. Lots of humour. Loved this film

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFrom the trailers it would be easy to think that this film is about a funny old man cutting loose.

It’s nothing of the sort. It’s the moving account of a pensioner returning to the Normandy beaches he fought over on D-Day. There are light patches, particularly the gentle squabbles between he and his wife, played superbly by Glenda Jackson.

Caine does nothing so much as react – and the effect is amazing. He himself was a Veteran of the Korean War – not many people know that – as Caine might say!

I really enjoyed this film and thoroughly recommend it.
