    Wonderful Film
Fantastic actors and a very sympathetic view on d day. Everyone should watch it. Glenda Jackson’s last film before she died and I doubt Michael Caine will make another but both masters of their craft.

    Great film.
Beautifully written and outstanding performances by Glenda Jackson and Sir Michael Caine. Really makes you appreciate the service men and women who gave everything for us. There are laughs. tears and poignant moments. Loved it – thank you.

    Excellent feel-good movie
The last performances on film of Glenda Jackson and Michael Caine and they’re unmissable classics, as good as anything they’ve done in the past. The story, based on real life, is a gentle reflection of the lifelong love of two elderly people blended with the story of the man’s “escape” to the 70th anniversary commemoration of D Day and the part he played in this historic event.

    Very Good
Anything with Michael Caine in is always good. My only criticism was the way it kept going back in the day then back to the present day . Story was great with Michael Caine & Glenda Jackson . Michael going off on his own from his care home without telling them for the anniversary of the D – Day Landings . Found it hard to keep up as it’s a bit slow . But I liked the storyline on what it was abou

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHeartrending memories.....
I thought we’d forgotten the art of producing epic films in the UK until I watched
‘The Great Escaper’. This film brings so many raw emotions bubbling to the surface
love, compassion, terror, fear, but more than any other…deep and lasting humility….
Michael Caine & Glenda Jackson’s facial expressions conveyed so much depth,
a long lifetime of deep love, respect & humour shone through despite the reality
    surrounding them.
John Standing and Wolf Kalher (German Veteran), also made a truly memorable
impression in their respective roles. Having close German friends from that era
we’ve also seen another side. The lonely veterans search for graves at the war
cemetery in Bayeux, catches you unawares…amid the frequently wry humour expect
to shed lots of choking sobs…..What an absolute memorable gem of a film !

    A fantastic movie
This has the brilliant sir Michael Caine & Glenda Jackson, it will have laughing & crying. I never knew this was a true story and who else could have played this amazing couple, I’m afraid nobody I know. Brilliant script a wonderful feel good movie. I’m in my 60s, I’ve told my children to have me put down, if I need to be looked after(lol). This is well worth purchasing, MC & GJ at their best, I definitely recommend

    Fantastic Performance
I have been waiting to see The Great Escaper for some time and planned to purchase the DVD but thanks to Amazon Prime I didn’t need to.
Outstanding performances from both Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson who sadly died not long after this film was completed.
A true story that made me laugh and also brought tears.
I have recommended this film to several people who have also enjoyed it.
When I think about it, this is a true story that hasn’t been sexed up to make it somehow more interesting
in the way that so many films are now.

    LOVELY FILM
A lovely gentle film with a poignant story. It is sad that this was Glenda Jackson’s last film but what a story of old age and the way we are treated. I loved it and will probably watch it again in the future.

    Just brillia
A beautiful film. Michael Cain and Glenda Jackson are just fabulous. I thought that they would just be themselves as they are both seniors but no, they PLAYED the characters perfectly. Highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGood film, but lacks some depth
The Great Escaper depicts the tale of D-Day veteran Bernie Jordan who, in 2014, absconded from his care home to attend the 70th commemoration of the D-Day landings in Normandy. Michael Caine is superb as Bernie and an also brilliant Glenda Jackson plays his wife Rene. It’s a quiet film but always watchable. It must be said, however, that a couple of interesting story threads are not fully explored, which is frustrating. For example, when Bernie befriends RAF D-Day veteran Arthur on the way to France their subsequent relationship somewhat tails off. Also, when Bernie meets some German veterans the scene is too brief and doesn’t reach its potential. Another criticism is that the film was shot entirely in the UK, and it shows. This lack of location filming gives the movie a run-of-the-mill TV feel which is unfortunate. That said, I must state again that the acting is superb and at the heart of the film is Bernie & Rene’s enduring love for each other. Fair to say you might shed a tear or two.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEasily the best performance of Michael Caine's caree
From the trailers it would be easy to think that this film is about a funny old man cutting loose.

It’s nothing of the sort. It’s the moving account of a pensioner returning to the Normandy beaches he fought over on D-Day. There are light patches, particularly the gentle squabbles between he and his wife, played superbly by Glenda Jackson.

Caine does nothing so much as react – and the effect is amazing. He himself was a Veteran of the Korean War – not many people know that – as Caine might say!

I really enjoyed this film and thoroughly recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA moving realistic film
I liked the storyline about an older age group whose feelings and emotions still mattered and whose actions when they were younger still had relevance today and helped shape the world we live in now.

Awesome film with nothing to dislike brilliant adaptation of a real hero. Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson were fabulous. Knowing that Michael Caine served as well makes it all to real.

Film was fab however I was charged twice for the pleasure because I stopped it midway then went back to it another day
What I was charged I could have gone to cinema with nacho s and popcorn
15.99 rental for a prime member is steep to say the least
Total charge 23.00 plus. a voucher of 8.00
    31.00

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA feel good movie
This movie represents that indefatigable spirit that people who have served in the UK Armed Forces epitomise.

Based on a true story, with some dramatic licence for effect, it tells the tale of a WWII veteran who is determined to pay his respects to fallen D-Day colleagues & the media frenzy that surrounded the 90 year old’s escapades. But it also tells that of the strength of his marriage & relationship with his wife!!

A great movie & one I would watch again.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMichael Caine and Glenda Jackson make this film worth i
Let’s start with it’s a great story based on a true event. Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson RIP put in stunning performances, a joy. Overall I enjoyed it however I’m not so sure of some of the production, e.g. the home they were living in, didn’t see a lift for the elderly and the entrance had steep steps to get up with no wheelchair ramp despite Glenda Jackson’s character being wheeled around. Attention to such details matter. I would also have welcomed more flashbacks to the D-Day landings for context. But overall well worth a watch.
