If you are planning to use it indoors, you are in for a treat, as it will last for a long time on one set of batteries, and you can put it away to be taken out every year around Halloween to add an extra touch. If, like us, you use it outdoors, once moisture gets into the battery compartment, it’s days are numbered. I’m surprised that my original review disappeared, as I felt it was important info, given this is a fab set of lights, but not too good for outdoors decor.

Superb! But could be a bit pricey for once a year use...
This is quite an impressive set of 7 stainless steel pumpkin carving tools, usefully enclosed in a generously sized and instantly recognisable orange zip topped pouch complete with carrying loop. The ‘carving templates’ in the listing are just several sheets of A4 paper with Jack O’Lantern faces in black – good for inspiration but I’d prefer to draw freehand onto the pumpkins.

I bought a set of such tools a couple of years ago and they were less than half the price of these. They work okay – but this Wizsofer set is by far the better. Aside from the handy storage pouch, the tools are way superior.

They’re robust and unlikely to bend even when an adult’s exerting some force scooping out the innards of a pumpkin. The handles – with skull motifs either side – are genius. They have a non-slip finish which is perfect when dealing with slippery pumpkin flesh and the decorate pumpkins at the hilts help to prevent mush from extending up the handle.

The tools are safely packaged in 2 thick vinyl wallets within the storage pouch which I’ll continue to use. There’s much more variety to them than those of my old set. They’re also sharper – seriously so with some very pointed ends and serrations that are just the job for expert pumpkin carving. Some of them could do serious damage in the wrong hands and I wouldn’t let children loose with these.

For hollowing out and carving pumpkins and gourds it would be hard to find a set of tools as good as these. They’ll be ideal for going to the next level in decorations and will allow me to carve some intricate and elaborate designs that my cheaper tools haven’t allowed.

That said, for most of us pumpkin carving will be a once a year thing. I could see these tools coming in useful for carving certain fruit and veg for occasional table centrepieces as they – but this would be very occasional. The set’s excellent and would be perfect if you have a lot of pumpkins to carve, say for a shop display. But for home use once a year many couldn’t justify the current 22.99 asking price.
