I bought it as I wanted the remote control feature, which seems to be working fine. The shades of light are quite nice at the warmer dimmer end of the scale. I forgot it doesn’t come with the plug, just the USB end which was a shame but fair enough, I just forgot! Good long lead and clips onto the wooden rail of a bunk bed well.

In many ways, this is a good light. I can’t spot any flicker, and with five versions of white from ‘cold’ to ‘warm’ and five brightness levels, you should be able to find one that’s the one you want.

It doesn’t inspire confidence that the colour chart here is wrong: the lower temperatures should be the yellower ones, not the higher, though.

You need to have a USB A socket to plug it in, but the question of which will work safely and reliably is unclear. The description here says you can plug it into a laptop etc, but a slip tells you not to.

Some quick maths says that if the max wattage in the description here is right at 6W, it needs 1.2A which is more than the rated value of a lot of older USB chargers and more than many USB A ports on devices want to supply. The box reckons it’s 1A, but the box also reckons it can do three versions of white rather than the five it actually does.

Argh, I shouldn’t have to get a USB current display to find out what it actually needs.

The build quality is mixed: the arm doesn’t flop about while being flexible, but the diffuser cover for the LEDs was half detached on mine (it does mean I know how the various sorts of LEDs are arranged!) and the clip at the base which protects the wire up the arm from tugs was open rather than stopping it from being pulled excessively.

Finally, there’s a blue LED light by on/off button on the control that’s lit when the light is off. You might find it useful for finding the button in the dark or a pain, even though it’s not particularly bright, but there’s no option not to have it.

It’s good, but it could and should have been better.

A brilliant variable light source on a robust flexible stem enabling accurate positioning over a task, however the USB connector cable has a label attached which warns – ‘ Do not connect the device to a computer ( PC, Laptop etc)’. This completely contradicts the web site which states in the notes – ‘USB cable can be plug into available USB port (laptop/desktop/power bank/USB adapter)’ and in two graphics headed – ‘Ways to Charge’- which clearly indicate that it can be powered from an adaptor, power bank, PC or laptop. I see no reference to this anomaly in previous reviews, so I can only assume most customers are using an integral USB port on a PC/laptop without any problem. Possibly this label was attached by mistake during assembly, but conflicting product information such as this, is inexcusable and only serves to cause confusion and concern!

I did not read all the blurb when looking simply for a replacement so for the price I was surprised and delighted at the options change of brightness and timer and a separate remote control/ So happy I may get another one.
