    Great game with minimal setup
Doesn’t take long to se up and the simple rules make for an easy time integrating new and young players. I have bought this a number of times as it makes a great gift for those inclined to enjoy the odd family game night.
Each game is short so no one loses interest before the games finished.
Small tin contains everything you need making it a good choice for travel.
The expanded version ‘Sushi Go Party’ is even better, with more of the same and a bit more.

    Quick and fu
I bought this game having played it years ago in a larger group of people. Now just my partner and I play it, we’ve not yet had the chance to play it with friends. It took a game (which has three rounds) to get the hang of it but so easy once we played that first game. It’s like gin rummy but in a more fun and cute format with cute sushi designs.

I thought these were a bit pricey at first, but as I played it, I realised it was probably the best card game I’ve ever played. It is fairly simple to learn and is great to play with the whole family. (Especially if you like sushi) I highly recommend these!

Great, portable version of the game.
Fun little game, easy to learn and in this variant it comes in a very compact, handy little tin. Was a really fun one to pull out of the bag during the Christmas holidays, as I travelled around to various family members. Not that it’s only fun on the move. It’s a fun game regardless!

I purchased this as a gift for someone so am reflecting their feedback-
This is an excellent game, well designed and you get hours worth of entertainment. Its particularly great to just have in a games draw for a cheap game night.

    Great game for everyone
Lovely little game that proves you don’t need a screen to have fun, and that there’s lots more to card games than gin rummy.
Have bought for my family and for friends as a gift.

True, the rules can seem a bit daunting at first glance, but they’re easy to remember after a couple of plays, the cards have notes on them to remind you what they do, and with loads of YouTube playthroughs you can get going in minutes if reading the instructions is too old school. I watched the Wil Wheaton Tabletop YouTube show and was convinced this wasn’t just a game for kids.

Note: I nearly cancelled my order as the Top review on Amazon says this is the Czech version, but that’s an old review from 2017. Now in 2021 it’s the tin box and English version.

Definitely a buy if you like card/board games. It has become one of our favourite games very quickly and one that our friends have enjoyed a lot too.

The game is very easy to learn, and most people will get the hang of it quite quickly. The tin box it comes in is also very travel friendly, so can easily be taken around too.

Good quality. Fun game for all ages. Easy to learn. Heartily recommend it. Not just for parents & kids -it’ll be great for playing with friends when the kids are in bed.
Double the fun if you love sushi!

This is now one of our favourite family games. Great little card game and comes in a tin so gmeasy to take one holiday. We play it with our kids. We love the pictures on the cards. Super cute and cool.

    Fantastic game!
I bought this to try over Christmas with my partner, who is very much a computer game fanatic, and it did not disappoint. It’s a staple now for us and we’ve played it tonnes, even after the Christmas break. It’s fairly straightforward to learn and plays well with just the two of us. I can’t wait to be able to have people over again so that we can play with our friends and family.

It’s a simple and fun game. It’s very good for children and adults playing together at family gatherings etc. A family member recommended it and it’s definitely worth a buy. The case is very useful for children to store the game. Might buy another one as a present.

This game is so much fun! I admit we struggled a bit with getting to learn how to play but that could just be because my family is pretty slow with things! Once you pick it up it’s a really great game to play. Love love love it.

Its a very compact little game with lovely art work. You get points for creating combinations of sushi dishes that you get through a shared hand of cards you take turns drawing from. My daughter really enjoys it despite it requiring calculating numbers to work out your best moves .

    Gamewright make great games
I was wrong. I purchased this a few years ago and couldn’t get on with it. God knows why because it’s in a tin which I love for travelling with, the artwork is so pretty, it’s quick to learn and you collect cards which I love.
I think the sushi theme put me off, but it’s gamewright, and I adore their sweet quick to learn card games. Other favourites are zeus on the loose, gubs, too many monkeys and of course sleeping queens.
So I gave it another go, and so pleased I did. Another winner.

    Great game for families!
Great little game, easy for kids and adults to understand (after a few rounds with the rulebook nearby)
The game gets more fun as players learn how the game works, and start to block other players etc.
The cards are high quality, nicely illustrated, and come in a lovely travel tin.
The instructions are easy to understand, and even have a “quick guide” on the back so you can look at a glance and answer questions players might have.

Great game with quick next day delivery!
I played this game previously with friends and decided to buy it for myself since it is a great game to play with family and friends and very easy to learn. It is easy to carry around as well which makes it great for travelling! The game I ordered came with English instructions and cards, so I don’t know why some people say they’ve received in Czech. I definitely recommend this game if you’re for something fun to pass the time with your friends and family.

5 stars great for all ages.
Have played this with several 9-10 year olds as well as 40-60 year olds who all love the simple menanics of drafting, passing and set collecting. The cute artwork was also a hit.
Can be played thinking “long game” : counting cards and remembering which you hope will make it back to you… But not necessary.
What I love: the most strategic player doesn’t always win as the random draw from a large deck and hand-sharing levels out the playing field. This makes it great for all ages to play together without older players needing to ” play nice ” to give younger players a chance.
Wish I had got the Party version first… I will be getting the expansion to have more cards to play with!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat gateway game to "proper" card games
Was in two minds as to whether to get this or the party edition but decided the jump in price wasn’t worth it, it’s fundamentally the same game and it will be easier for my non-gaming friends and family to pick up.

And what a great little game it is! Everyone is raving about the artwork and portability so i’ll focus on the gameplay – it’s pretty well balanced with the target sets and the number of each card supplied and has the great drafting mechanic that makes it a lot more interesting than more conventional games. Cards and prints are fantastic quality, was pretty shocked at just how many cards they give you.

Only thing I would criticise is that the rulebook doesn’t quite explain things as well as I would’ve liked but I was lucky in that I’ve watched games being played and knew the basic gist of the game. Usual case of being told the specifics before the actual aim of the game and what you’ll spend a lot of game time actually doing.

Not played it with more than 3 people yet but i can imagine it’s just as good with even 5 or 6, and it’s not often you can say that. Adding more people will often slow a game down to a crawl or make it too chaotic but not here since you are constantly passing, choosing and receiving cards. I appreciate the additional 2 player rules but haven’t tried that yet, looked a bit fiddly on first read but I’m sure they spent a lot of time developing them.

My daughter was even besotted with it and played a few rounds with us, and she’s only 3 and a half. By the end she was understanding that she needed to make sets of the different families of cards and she was really proud of how many points we told her she’d made.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersGreat game, wonderful for the whole family and younger children too.
Sushi go is a simple and intuitive game that is fun and encourages your child to think strategically. On the box the game suggests it is suitable for 8 years +, although my 5 year old daughter has no problem at all thrashing both my wife and I. Its not just fun for kids though – this is also a great simple party game that gets incredibly competitive!

The game is really simple – you each get dealt a hand of cards, and each turn you must pick one that you place in front of you, and then pass your hand to the next player until all the cards are gone. At the end, you count up the points. This is done for 3 rounds in total, and the winner is the person with the most points at the end.

You score points depending on the cards you put down in front of you. Some give you 1, 2 or 3 points, others give you points for collecting sets, and others give you points at the end of the game. Its incredibly rewarding to see your child debating with themselves about which cards to play – do I get the 2 points now, or risk it and try and get the 6 points later? Fun and educational (even if they don’t know it).

The game is sweet as it deviates from the typical fantasy type theme of knights, dragons and wizards (favoured by boys), and instead has nice pictures of various sushi dishes! all of which are beautifully illustrated and easily recognisable after a few games (important for those not familiar with Sush!).

A wonderful result of this game is my five year old is now incredibly keen to try various sushi dishes.

    Cannot recommend enough – 5/5!

This is a really fun game that you can play with both children and adults. Nicely illustrated, easy to pick up and surprisingly strategic! We often finish off a board games night with a couple of games of this. Top tip: Don’t forget about the puddings…it can all be won and lost on puddings!

Great little game. Fast paced and lots of fun for children and adults. Different to lots of other card games because you pass your hand to the next player each go, having removed one card for yourself. There is strategy required to win. Only limitation is that you need to be able to hold and pass on a hand of cards. Possible but not great for those who need to play cards with a card holder. Everyone in my family loves this game.

A good little game. Portable and easy to learn.

I bought it for my nephew to play with his friends and it seems to have hit the mark.

I enjoy playing it myself. Not deeply tactical, but not devoid of tactics either.

Doesn’t take too long, and the play style really fits the theme of the sushi conveyor belt.

The pictures are clear and amusing and my nephew loved them.

Unique game mechanic, great for kids
The game is straightforward though it does take a bit of time to learn. I really like the game mechanic, which has each player play one card from their hand, and then pass all the cards remaining to the player on their left. So the whole set of cards will make at least one revolution in a round. It’s unusual and different. Our 8 year old mastered this pretty quickliy and likes it. He isn’t good at it yet, like he is at some other games (e.g., Uno, Forbidden Island), but he still enjoys playing. He liked it so much he wanted to give it as a Chritsmas present to some of his friends.

Great game. 8 yr and 13 yr equally loved it . Took about 10 mins to to work out scoring system initially but great once started and easy to take on journey / holiday. Lovely design of cards and tin. 3 rounds lasts about 30 mins so not too time consuming . and can stop when needed. Nice present.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAn addictive card game that has made it very big from its Kickstarter roots.
Great little card game that is quick to learn (new players can learn it in one game) and because it is quick to play (about half an hour for your first game but about fifteen minutes once everyone knows what they are doing) you can have a few games in any session with no problems.
If you’re getting together to play something more serious it can be a fun game to start with while people arrive or just to finish off the evening!
It is played over three rounds so you’ll need a way of keeping score from round to round (nothing is included for this) but a pen and paper or smartphone will handle this no problem 🙂

This is a cracking little game and a new take on the old dynamic of set building. The fun comes from taking a card from a hand and then passing that hand on. This means you know what the next person could get and you are often left gambling on whether the card you need will make it all the way around, as you are only allowed to take one card at a time. Cards with varying values and combined values make this strategic but not overly so.

I think 8 is probably an over estimate as to the age group who could play this once you get the concept the game play comes easily and it becomes quite frenetic as you take the card you need then pressure people to move the hands round rather than give them time to think (with your children you won’t want to apply too much pressure).

We played this at work one lunchtime and everyone was sold on it.

The quality is excellent and someone said the cards actually had a Japanese feel too them 😀

Given the quality of the packaging, the number of cards and the sheer fun this is a good value card game, thinking about it it is also one where you could lose a card or two and it wouldn’t detract from the dynamic too much either.

    Highly recommended!

Sushi Go – The Pick And Pass Card Game

Today’s gaming market is fantastic; the choice is overwhelming and the quality is, at times, astounding. However, the aforementioned market is generally expensive too. So, the reviews of these products are essential to me as I don’t want to squander my cash on cleverly marketed tat.

‘Sushi Go!’ is carefully designed and well presented and certainly not tat. If I was to justify its existence at all, then I would have to include the fact that my two kids (aged 7 & 10) absolutely loved it. Its biggest asset is that the rules are easily understood yet the strategic element is paramount – this is a quality that makes the best games stand out. And stand out it does because the product design is top notch and the quality of the cards themselves justify the 10 price tag.

I would heartily recommend this if you were to go on a long train journey or if you’re stuck in a caravan with the rain lashing down outside. However, remember your pencil and paper – this will help (unless you’re Rain Man and particularly good with numbers).

    Enjoy!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBest mini draft game in a long time
What a great introduction draft game (deal a hand of cards, pick 1 card from it and pass the rest to either your left or right opponent). Rules are really simple and takes around 5 minutes to be fully understood. Played this countless times with friends, family and other likeminded people at the local boardgame caf, and everyone really enjoys it.

The artwork is spot on and appealing for all ages.

It is also a great warmup game for 7 Wonders.

All in all, if you like your boardgames and want to try something different or just want to have a good time, this game is for you! If you just want to have a good time regardless of playing boardgames or not, this is for you.

Short sharp game, simple concept but good depth of fun.
We are a bit of a board and card game family. My kids do spend a lot of time with their devices but I like to research and buy fun games to get us round a table together. Most work, some don’t, and despite research i did wonder if this might be disappointing. I needn’t have worried! The game is nice and quick, 20-30 mins tops, and is played in 3 rounds, each scored with a final bonus score ’round’. If you aren’t used to some of the more funky games out there, then think Happy Families meets Old Maid but played in a Sushi bar!?!? Hmmm.. that might not have helped but essentially everyone is dealt a hand, you keep a card trying to make collections of scoring sushi dishes and then pass your hand to the player on the left getting the hand from the payer to your right. You keep going until you have no cards and then see what you have scored. The fun is from judging if you might get your hand back with cards you might need. Interestingly because of this game mechanic the game plays differently if you play with say 4 or 2. Great fun, a bit different and doesn’t take forever. Well worth the purchase

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGreat little card game
Players take turns playing a card from their hand and passing their hand on (this is called card draughting) in the hope of building sets and sequences of cute little sushi cards. Simply, players can take the cards they want or, more deviously, can take cards the other players want in order to stop them completing their sets. Very simple rules but good fun. Works well with younger children (5+ too).

Edit:2018-10-22 Since I wrote this review Gamewright have published a game called “Sushi Go: Party”. It’s pretty much the same game but with some extra card types. From these you select which one you want before you start the game. Now SG:P is just fine as a game, and the extra variety is all very nice, but there are several reasons why I think you should still choose this version of the game. 1. The box is smaller so infinitely more portable, 2. SG:P has fewer cards of each type, which requires you shuffle after each round (instead of just at the start of the game) which seriously interferes with flow

Great game - perfect for kids, but with hidden depth.
Great micro game – takes about 20-25 minutes to play. Really small, easily transportable.

The tin was a little loose when it arrived, but it’s also malleable enough that a small amount of pressure got the lid back to a tight fit.

Helps teach strategy, memory and card counting. The fun and vibrant colours are great for kids, as is the theme. Unlike a lot of other games, there’s no ‘monsters’ or fighting. Thematically it’s purely based around trying to make the most delicious sushi combinations.

My ONLY criticism would be that you need a pen and paper for the scoring, but the tin is just a little too small to store this as well, so they have to be carried separately.

  33. Anonymous says:

It is a great fun game to play though
This was bought on a whim mostly due to the artwork! It is a great fun game to play though, very easy to learn, quick to set up and quick to play. Not needing a board it’s one that will definitely have a place amongst ‘travel games’ good for train journeys or similar.
The cards are a good quality with nicely printed images. The tin is solid and fits the cards neatly so you’re not having to carry around a lot of empty box as is the case with so many other games.
The enjoyment we found came from not knowing what was in the hands coming towards you, whether to go for the safe single scoring cards or try to complete a set. This can lead to joy when the last Sashimi you need comes into your hand or despair when you realise that someone else has drawn the card you need or even worse that there aren’t enough in play anyway!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersGreat game thats better with more people.
I’ve played Sushi-Go! with family and friends, and this is a fun little game that is very easy to just pick up and play.
Most of the cards are self explanatory, with instructions and points detailed clearly on the cards.

I found when only playing with two people, that game can be quite predictable, as its easier to keep track of what cards are in play as they are exchanged each turn (Leaving us to create our own little variant where we would split each hand in half, to help keep some mystery.)

A nice benefit of this game is that it doesn’t eliminate other players, so its a great choice for kids, and is especially appealing thanks to its bright colours and cute/funny designs.
