Not a huge gamer but I thought it would be fun and a good way to introduce my daughter to gaming. Was right on both counts. It’s a great piece of kit. Very easy to use and seems to be built to a good standard.

Loved Nintendo since I bought the N64 for the family. This new game system was asked for by my daughter as a Christmas gift for her family. I was happy to do it. It was delivered on time to put under their tree. Thanks so much!

What a console! So versatile! Wicked screen, really clear, love that I hand use handheld or on TV (Mario cart bangs on TV!) And the 2 player option is excellent. I’m glad I got the dual colour as it’s easier for me to relate to which one is the master controller etc. Great free games too!

My son was so excited when he saw this. It was expensive but was worth the look on my son’s face. He does not appear to have any issues with it and have been using it since Christmas with no issues.

The switch is a perfect choice for a family console, with a good range of games that are exclusive and work especially well for families with younger children. Although it is a fairly old device now and clearly not as powerful as the likes of the current Xbox and PlayStation offerings, it offers the versatility of a handheld device as well as giving you the TV dock for big screen action. The joycons are similarly versatile and can be used for two player local play right out of the box without the need to immediately go shopping for additional controllers (of course you can get additional ones for further players if you like). The joycons also have inbuilt gyroscopes for use with motion controlled games like switch sports and just dance.

This recently released bundle has the latest OLED version of the console with an upgraded bigger screen over the original version. This makes for an improved handheld experience. It also has more storage than the original switch, but only twice the capacity (64gb, vs 32). Thankfully you can expand this capacity easily using an SD card slot, with extra space being fairly cheap to come by in the form of SD cards (typically 128 or 256gb, look out for ones that have been optimised for use with the switch for best results). I’d advise getting extra space straight away too, as a few downloaded games will quickly fill up the consoles built in capacity.

The console comes bundled with the excellent Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game (download code rather than cartridge version), there is also a redeemable card for three months worth of Nintendo Switch Online, normally a subscription based service that gives access to online play in games. This service is reasonably good value as it also grants access to numerous retro games from past generations of Nintendo consoles. I have been loving this as lots of games from my youth are available!!

Overall, me and my family have had a great time with the switch over Christmas and new year, playing games both locally and online. As several of my children’s friends have switches too, it was the logical choice for us for now, at least until the children get a bit older when maybe a more hardcore gamer console (i.e. Xbox or PlayStation) can be considered.

Nicely made with a great screen, easy to setup but not a fan of the controllers so would recommend looking for a new controller especially if you want 2 players at the same time

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTo begin with, don’t know what the other peep is cribbing about. This is one heck of a deal for one heck of a console. The selection of games are beautiful and warming, pulling you away from the otherwise high graphics games , to give you a most heart warming experience. The console looks magnificent and the free Mario kart game is just an icing on the cake. Overall, a must own console for avid gamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Switch in experience

This is a solid games console with it’s flagship game.
A Nintendo account is required to set up the console and online play is limited to users that have purchased or subscribed to the Nintendo online service. However these are common requirements for most consoles now.

The games can be expensive for some, especially Nintendo’s own titles, but there’s nothing we can do about that. If you want to play a game, you’ve got to weigh up if the gameplay is worth the 40 price tag for you.
