Purchased this to diagnose fault code on the wife’s Audi. Gave me details, exact code and a short Google search later found the part I needed for 47! Even with the cost of this amazing product I saved literally 100’s. I have a Range Rover that are notorious for diagnostics – plugged it on the off chance not only cleared codes but told me history and learned I was miles away from MAF sensor going pop so again replaced quickly! Bought this device and it did it straight away. Easy to use and understand, it found the engine errors and have me the codes and descriptions. Research paid off because it was a hose with a hole in it going into the turbo. New hose – job done.
However, before I even did the hose, I used this to reset the errors and it removed them all, including the engine warning light.
It’s worth the money if you need to know engine codes and want to reset them.
I am not a mechanic, and if I open the bonnet, I am pretty much lost apart from oil checks. That doesn’t mean I am willing to neglect the car or happy to be ripped off at the garage though, so having an OBD2 code reader is a useful item for any car owner and this one has a massive library, over three times larger than most.
To test this I plugged it into my 2006 Toyota Avensis thanks to the help of a YouTube video that showed me where it was located, then ran through the different modules to check for any faults, including the battery voltage. Fortunately there didn’t seem to be any, but that’s why you buy a Toyota…
The display was easy to read and it can be used to check 9 different protocols. It comes with a neat bag as well, so you can store it on hand in the car. This may not be comparable with the sort of equipment the franchise dealer has available, but if a warning message appears on your dashboard this would be a good place to start.
A few months ago a lecturer at a local college, who teaches trainee mechanics advised me to get an OBD2 code reader, saying that a large number of “big jobs” are actually simple fixes and it helps if you can go to the garage armed with the facts. I hate repair bills, so this seemed like a good idea. As somebody who is not a car expert, I think I would have liked a message that popped up to spell out it was all good.
