A bit complicated for the elderly but for the young fine
I preferred the TVs that you could go straight from one channel to the next, not continually each time having to go back toBBC Iplayer. Okay you can voice your preference but lying in bed is not my thing to do.

I thought it was quite different to a normal TV in you have to select where to go for channels etc before you start watching perhaps it’s the way I have set it up but picture and sound good

    Great value and good software
This TV is one of the best value TVs I have owned. I own 5 TCL TVs and have never had an issue with any of them. The software is easy to use and it’s updated regularly. There are a lot of options if you want to add accessories such as soundbars or cameras/mics to the TV. I have had a lot of big brand TVs that don’t allow that amount of flexibility. The quality and sound are decent as well and it would do for the majority of uses

    Excellent picture quality
Stunning picture quality, vivid colours and very easy to setup. The screen is slim with virtually no bezel. Plenty of apps and channels available and comes with a voice control remote. The sound is slightly tinny when listening to music which I like to do however not enough to make me disappointed with the purchase as watching films or TV sounds great. Can be wall mounted or comes with 2 feet which are easily attached. Great performance in my opinion.

A very cheap & perfectly serviceable 32 inch Fire TV
A surprisingly good 32 inch HDR Fire TV. The display is remarkably good but only if you are viewing it pretty much square on. The sound could be better but this could easily be fixed by adding a sound bar. The FireTV is very usable also, 4 core 2GHz processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB storage but you can add more storage via the USB socket.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this Fire TV. A lot of functionality for 138

    Nice TV....BUT!
Nice picture, clear sound and small and light. The problem is that the TV remote and the remote for another HDMI device I plugged in were almost on the same frequency which meant that when for example, I went to ‘Home’ on the device, it took me to the TV home. There were other instances, too many to mention.
Four hours I was pulling my hair out trying to work out why this was happening. I tried ‘pairing’ remotes, but it wouldn’t work. I decided to return and bought a standard TV

Great TV but for the love of god…
I’ve had no problems with this TV’s functionality at all, the OS is quick, apps run perfectly and the features are great, but why oh why do they insist on putting an obnoxiously bright white standby LED on this TV with no option to turn it off like a normal Fire TV or normal TCL TV has. This specific TCL Fire TV model for some reason has no way of turning it off.

We’ve stuck tape over it as it’s so bright at night in our bedroom, but this light also doubles as the IR receiver so I have to choose between being able to easily use the remote or having a glaring light in our room when trying to sleep.

    Please sort it out TCL!!!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood cheap smart TV
Ordered this tv to replace our old caravan tv easy to mount to our tv wall bracket and easy to set up the freeview and all the different apps the longest part was waiting for the tv updates to be done. It has a very good picture and the sounds pretty good too even my nearly deaf husband can hear things without the volume being high would I buy this tv again the answer would be yes and would even look at buying a bigger screen tv for my living room. How long it will keep working for who knows but for the price and value and equipment on the tv who really minds if it last 3 years it would be not expensive to replace

A cheap tv that comes with good reviews. Pros: easy set up, decent picture, simple remote, very light and unbeatable price. Cons: sound is terrible, you will need a soundbar, picture ok but nothing great, feels and looks cheap (which it is). I got this as a present, a tv for the bedroom and it is fine for that but you wouldn’t want this as your main tv. Update: had a play about with the settings and sound improved and now that the tv is bedded down I have upgraded from 3 stars to 4 stars. For the price, this is a really good tv.

Great value Smart TV, with FHD and small size
We needed a TV for my son’s room. We were limited to a relatively small size due to the space it was going into. But we also wanted a 1080 resolution TV which was hard to find in such a small screen size.

This TV was a very good price and the quality is very good, even for the price.

Image and sound are good. It’s not speedy fast in terms of the operating system, but I didn’t expect that at this price point.

Thoroughly recommend this smaller sized TV.

I’ve had this tv a few months now and have to say its quality at a great price. The tv is slim and very light so easy to fit on a small kitchen wall bracket. The picture is sharp and vibrant and the sound quality is good too. Some reviews are saying that sound quality is poor but you can set the sound to different modes to suit. It’s easy to set up and you have to do the usual signing in to ITV and BBC etc. So glad I bought this contrary to some of the reviews .

    Good value, but some drawbacks
Not very much of a user manual! The emphasis is very much on the ‘Fire’, rather than being a TV, which you get to by using the ‘Live’ button on the remote. If you want to access other inputs, there’s no source button, instead you press and hold the ‘Home’ button to bring up a menu, from which you select an inputs menu. All a bit clumsy! Audio is a bit ‘trebly’, but you can connect to a soundbar with an optical cable, or the HDMI Arc. Picture quality seems fine, for me, anyway! As for the ‘Fire TV’ element, it’s a great improvement on my previous plug-in Fire TV! Apps can be sideloaded as usual.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersVery good for the money
Wanted a cheap TV for our dining room and saw this unit on offer which also meant I could ditch the FireTV box we had installed behind the last TV. Wasn’t expecting much for this value but was pleasantly surprised! The picture is great for what we need, YouTube and Plex mainly. Remote is very similar to the FireTV one, so that was nice as it’s quite minimal and a nice size. The speakers are really not good but can’t really moan about it for the cost, so I got a HiSense HS2100 soundbar to fix that and works flawlessly using HDMI ARC so I control the volume on the TCL remote. Mounted easily on the wall mount we had and looks great. The menu is really quick and can navigate the apps with ease and speed. Really happy with this unit. Only other gripe was the power cord is not detachable – this would have made it easier for me but not the end of the world.

    SUMMARY
This TCL 40″ TV is based on the Amazon Fire Operating System. Streaming TV’s assume that the user wishes to view some live TV programs using an antenna, but for the most part wishes to view TV programs over the Internet using “catch-up” and “on-demand” TV utilities.

As I have been an Amazon Prime member for a few years, a Fire TV was a good option for me as I could make better use of my Prime membership. All live TV streaming services require an App and most of the Apps require that the user sets up an online account. However, there are many other streaming services that offer good content but do not require an online account. It should also be noted that streaming TV’s do not usually provide a recording functionality for live TV. If you wish to record live TV on this TCL 40″ Fire TV, then you will need a set top box with recording functionality.

    PRESENTATION
The product is well-packaged and adequately protected against normal bumps during transit. There is a very brief user guide which provides a few unpacking graphics and a connection diagram. TCL do provide an online user guide which is also very brief but does provide a useful diagram of the Remote Control functions.

    WHAT’s in the BOX…?
You will find the following items in the box….

TCL 40″ TV with power cord
2 x stands with fitting screws
    User Guide
    Remote Control and batteries

    INSTALLATION
Unpacking. The product can be unpacked and installed by one person without too much effort. However, for the sake of safety, both for yourself and the TV, if you have someone available, then you may wish to use an assistant. Remember that the front of the TV is a thin sheet of glass and should be handled carefully. I recommend using either a bed or a table covered with a thick blanket for unpacking the TV.

Location. In my setup the TV is located on a TV table, not attached to a wall. If you wish to attach the TV to a wall then please refer to the wall attachment fittings instructions.

Remote. Open the battery compartment on the Remote and install the batteries. The Remote does not have an LED indicator light when you press a button. If you are uncertain as to whether the Remote is working then you can use the camera on your phone to confirm operation — point the remote at the phone camera and press the ON/OFF button, you should see a light in the phone camera.

NOTE : If you intend to setup several online accounts then it is more convenient to do so using a mobile phone rather than the TV Remote. The phone and the TV need to be connected to the Internet using the same Router. The Fire TV app is available for download on most platforms.

Stands. You will need a star-head screwdriver (sometimes called a Phillips screwdriver). The two stands need to be installed before the product can be used. These are attached to the TV, each using two screws. The TV has location holes and the stands have location studs, therefore there is only one correct way to install the stands. The front of the stands point slightly outwards and the rear of the stands slightly inwards. Be careful not to overtighten the screws.

Connections. Once the stands are installed you can then move the TV to its location. Once located, attach the TV antenna. The TV can be connected to the Internet either by Wi-Fi or by Ethernet, if you wish to connect via Ethernet then insert the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port . Lastly, insert the mains plug into the wall socket and switch on the power.

Switch on the TV using the “Home” button on the Remote and follow the onscreen prompts.

    PRACTICAL USE
Internet Connection. Connection via Ethernet is simply a matter of inserting the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port. Connection via Wi-Fi is very easy. Make sure that you have the Router password available before initiating the Wi-Fi connection.

Video Quality. The video quality on this TCL TV is excellent. The resolution on this TV is 1080p and is, in my opinion, the best quality 1080p that I have ever seen. I score the video quality 5-stars.

Audio Quality. The audio quality is good. However, for the best audio experience, the sound does need to be selected for the type of video that you are viewing, for example, Clear Voice, Film, Music…. and so on. I score the audio quality 4-stars.

Remote. The functioning of the remote is very reliable. However, it has a small form factor and it does require some adaptation, especially for a man’s hands. The addition of Alexa is really useful. I score the Remote 4-stars.

Mobile Phone Remote. This App is available on most platforms and is easy to install and setup and works seamlessly. Good to have.

User Interface. Very good. The interface is intuitive, very easy to learn and a pleasure to navigate. It is difficult to find any negative comment. I score the user interface 5-stars.

Alexa. Having an Alexa button on the Remote is a nice touch. When you are feeling lazy, Alexa is your best friend and it works extremely well.

Live TV. With a good antenna, picture quality is very good and live TV includes all 100+ Freeview channels.

Apps. The Amazon store has all the Apps that a user could wish for. It is a good idea to go through the installed Apps and make sure that the installed Apps are the ones that you actually want.

Streaming Services. In addition to Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Music there are numerous other streaming services available, such as, YouTube, Freevee, Pluto…. and many others. Spoilt for choice.

Web Browser. Amazon have their own web browser, named “Silk”. It is by far the best TV web browser that I have used. The name “Silk” is very good, because the browser is really “as smooth as silk”. I score the web browser 5-stars.

Bluetooth. Easy to setup. Works with my headphones. Excellent range.

Connected Devices. I have a Freeview recorder connected via the HDMI 1 port. Works perfectly, no problems, easy to setup, really Plug-n-Play.

Ports. USB. LAN. Antenna. Satellite. Audio Out. HDMI 1. HDMI 2. AV In. Headphones.

Settings. There are 15 sub-menus under “Settings”. It is worthwhile to set aside an hour and go through all the settings and try to understand how each setting affects the way in which you can setup the TV to meet your needs and expectations.

Bought to replace defunct old tv and what an amazing piece of kit, especially for the price.
Setup was a little fiddly as the fire-tv needed to download several updates before it properly came to life but I am more than happy with the whole package. The QLED display gives a crystal clear picture, albeit a little too saturated with colour but that’s easily adjusted and cleverly for different inputs. The feed via a terrestrial antenna is balanced to my preference, separately to the inputs from cable and my old dvd player.
Sound is also impressive with a nice balance from the inbuilt speakers and a sufficiently powerful bass.
One of the best features is the compatibility with Apple AirPlay which allows big screen access to photos and video from my iPhone or iPad. The ability to play media from my GoPro by using the phone or pad is brilliant, with true 4K video quality too!
As for the price point, well it took a fair amount of reading through previous reviews to convince me that the TCL Fire-TV was really as good as it is. I know my son paid in excess of 2k for his similarly specified Sony TV and there’s absolutely nothing to choose between them, apart from the massive difference in price.

I needed to replace the old telly in the guest bedroom and started my search. Didn’t want to spend a fortune but had in mind a 32 inch for nax. 300. The TCL telly intrigued me. How could they do it at this price – delivered??? The spec. looked impressive, comments were good., so I thought about it for a day or two and so, given I could return it easily if needed. I placed my Prime order.

My friendly courier rocked-up nest day, as scheduled with the box. He handed it to me and I was stunned by the lack of weight. Careful unpacking, attaching the feet and plugging-in took about 20 minutes. Powered-up nicely and I then began the set-up. n.b. there’s no co-ax port for your TV aerial because you don’t nned it any more!!

It’s all very intuitive but you’ll need your little book of logins and passwords to access your home Wi-fi and then the individual apps on the screen. Once logged in, they just work.

In Summary: It’s a great peiece of kit, the new functionality (way of accessing TV content) may do your head-in for a day or two. That soon passes though..

Sound and Picture quality are both great. Perfect for a bedroom or kitchen

SUMMARY: I’m a believer – friends and family love it too. Extraordinary value for money. JUST BUY ONE.

    Lengthy set up
Extremely long process to set up. Not the easiest. If you want a TV to mainly watch Digital Freeview Channels, this is NOT for you. Primarily a Firestick with screen, so very biased to using the Firestick operating system and even the remote looks like a Firestick remote. This is not a TV with Amazon TV capabilities, it is a Firestick with screen. Not for us oldies (64!)

Got this for the bedroom and it’s a nice little TV for the price. Picture is ok, but not overly impressed with the sound. Think I will have to add a soundbar if I can’t get used to it. You get what you pay for and for a budget smart tv, it’s good.

Nice clear picture as expected, good point. sound I cannot say for I fitted a bar speaker immediately for modern tv,s the sound is bad on all models. MY GRUDGE!!! is that the paper instructions to set up the tv is only fitting the tv to a wall bracket? No information on tv settings? nor is there any information on this model in their website? to change any tv settings they advise you to go onto face book or other sites. What good is that if you want to change settings straight out of the box??. the remote control is more limited than I would have wished. unusually the remote is smaller than I personally like although to most people that is not normal, my fingers must be bigger than normal?
That are the only reason’s I gave the lower rating for, otherwise taking that into account I am quite pleased with it early day,s yet I am still trying to finding set up information on google yet with little what I want 4 stars only

    Fantastic Picture for the Price
Well I did not know what to expect, I just hoped it would be OK. So after fitting it and connecting the mains and areal and hard-wired the Ethernet. My first thought when switching on was the menu was slow. When everything was set up and channels tuned I got very excited and pleased The picture quality is excellent.
I also have it connected to a PC as an extra screen and again I was very pleased with the result. So easy to change channels or to an HDMI port with the zapper just press the mic button and say HDMI one or two and it does it. For the Price, this is a VERY GOOD TV

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDecent TV but can be a bit slow
Overall I’m happy with this TV. It works well and the picture quality is decent enough. It’s performance is really let down when it comes to watching live broadcasts through the aerial. This took a while and several restarts before it would work. Ever since then it has been ok, but can take many seconds (probably up to 30) before turning in. Sometimes it then decides the channel you were last watching isn’t what you wanted and switches to something else (this only occasionally happens when first switching to live TV). The program guide is also ultra slow at populating.
Please note I have very fast WiFi and a strong broadcast signal.
But this aside it’s a great TV for the price. I’d almost certainly consider getting a second one if the need arose.

Golden Review Award: 44 From Our UsersSuperb TV, Good Picture and Sound, Value For Money, Voice Remote
I have been pleased to sample and test this TCL 50CF630K, 50 inch TV over seven days.

It is easy to set up and with this TV it arrives with all the apps you could currently want or in
fact need. I installed it on a wall and whilst the sound was good, I opted to link in a soundbar
underneath it. To be fair, I had already decided to have a soundbar prior to testing the TV.
That said the sound is good.

At the rear of the TV, it has all the ports and connections needed including HDMI, Optical, USB
    and WiFi.

The picture quality is good too and if some reviewers are a bit sniffy when they compare it to
other brands they, in my opinion, are being unreasonable. The fact is that those other brands are
at least twice the price of this TV. Don’t let the price put you off! It has 4K HD which ensures it’s
    quality.

It has all the apps plus of course the bonus of having QLED Fire already on board. So there is instant
link to the Alexa. The viewing opportunities with Fire were , I admit new to me but there is a lot to
like, including Bosch! It has Freevee -check it out!

So, going through the checklist of picture quality, sound, current technology it passes with flying colours.

Now that elephant in the room-the remote. OK, it could be improved and in terms of ‘flicking through
the channels’ the touchpads could be larger. Its design, I feel nudges you towards using the voice
control on the remote. So, its a question of whether you prefer dialling in the numbers for channels,
accessing them through the remote or using your voice. Frankly, I do both.

All in all, this if I can put it this way is a ‘splendid’ TV with a good picture and sound, with the useful
voice control on the remote, PLUS -Its Value for Money!

Golden Review Award: 194 From Our UsersSurprisingly good budget smart TV
I have one of those Samsung curvy wurvy all singing, all dancing smart TV’s, well, back when having a curved TV was all singing and all dancing, but the chance to grab a TV for the conservatory came up so I snapped it up.

Now, I don’t think I’ve heard of TCL prior to ordering the 50CF630k but a quick Google reveals that TCL are, in fact, one of the biggest companies you’ve never heard of.

So, hooking this up, and getting it online is a breeze, particularly if you’ve set up smart TV’s before. The operating system seems quite similar to that of my Samsung, except that a lot of the apps I want and need are already there. My Samsung is of an age where there is no Apple TV+ or Paramount+ app available for it.

Now, I’ve seen some people complain about the remote, but, for me, it’s functional, if not the absolute best, it doesn’t come close to the smart wand thingy I have on my Samsung, but some of this is mitigated by having built in Alexa, which works well. If you already have a Fire TV Stick or similar, then you know the drill.

The TV in use, it has all the ports and connections you would expect and ever need – HDMI, USB, WiFi, blaaaah, and the TV immediately connected just fine to my PS4, PS5, and docked Nintendo Switch. It lso connected to my WiFi no problem after configuring it, and allowed me into my streaming apps no problem.

The build quality of the thing is also pretty good, though secure it properly or it will go bye bye in a fall.

So of great importance is image quality, the blurb claims Dolby Vision, 4K HDR Pro, and all manner of screen based jargon, but all most people want to know is “is the picture good?” Well yes it is, and I dare say it’s on a par and if not better than my Samsung. Yes you got to play around with settings to get what you want out of it, but you have to do that with any TV, but colours just pop, and blacks are blacker than on my Samsung. The screen is also pretty much edge to edge, which is a slight step up from my Samsung which has a slight bezel.

Movies, shows, and games look good on this thing, though I do think on my Samsung, gaming is better (refresh rates, latency, etc.), despite the dedicated Games Master mode on the TCL.

Now, sound. I almost hate to say it but the TCL has far superior sound to that of my Samsung, and this is thanks to the TCL’s built in Dolby Atmos. Whilst I understand that there are different grades of Atmos and this might be on the lower scale, it is still streets ahead of my current TV.

This is an amazing secondary TV, and a good primary TV. It has good picture, good sound, it’s good for gaming, and it comes in at a budget you wouldn’t be unhappy with. Sure it isn’t going to win a sparring match against the top or even middle offerings from Samsung’s, LG’s, or Sony’s, but it holds its own very well.
