These USB-C to USB-A adapters work great (but USB 2.0)
These USB-C to USB-A adapters are very practical, allowing me to connect devices with the new standard USB-C to my old devices with USB-A. However, please be aware that these adapters provide a data transmission speed up to 480Mbps, that is only USB 2.0. Their bodies are made of an aluminum-alloy and their connectors are made of nickel. They seem well-made and resistant. They are compact and easy to carry around, solving any potential issue on compatibility between your devices. They are plug and play. No need for other drivers/software.
Handy little adapters that save on replacing all plugs.
These adapters look and feel very sturdy, and are very useful for charging items with newer cables. They are a snug fit in all the USB-A slots I’ve tried them in, and the USB-C cables I’ve put into them have also all been quite secure.
My laptop doesn’t have a USB-C slot, so if I only have a C to C cable I can’t connect my phone to it.
I have lots of USB plugs that are USB-A and also a wall socket that includes USB-A sockets, but as more and more cables become C to C this meant I was potentially facing spending quite a bit of money to replace them – and for a while would need both as I still have devices that need a USB-A to Micro or Mini USB.
A much better solution is these adapters. Nowhere near as big an outlay, I’m not having to find space for additional plugs, and I’m not throwing away things that still work meaning they’re more friendly to the environment.
The only thing I’ve not managed to do with them in place is transfer data to/from my phone! But I don’t know if this is a problem with the adapters or a problem with the cables (which also claim to support data transfer). I’m trying to find a friend with a laptop that has a USB-C connector, as I can then try the cables in that – and I should then be able to figure out which isn’t working properly.
When I manage to do that I will come back and update this review.
14th Jan 2014 – Update
I put the adapter into my laptop, and then connected a memory card reader to it. I was able to transfer pictures on the memory card onto my laptop, so I’m happy that these support data transfer.
However, when putting everything away, instead of managing to take the adapter off the card reader I actually managed to take the external black sleeve off the adapter! I’ve checked the others and they seem to be sound, but I need to find a way to secure the one back on. It doesn’t stop it from working, but it’s not as nice to handle without it!
Excellent…
With the proliferation of USB-C, thankfully, as it’s the best of all the mini connectors, but still a lot of older devices having USB-A ports, like standard desktop PC’s or charging plugs, i have often found a need for these little converters.
These seem very nicely made, and for their size, have a bit of weight to them and feel solid. Plugging in on either A or C also felt very positive. The price is really good as well. Recommended.
Very compact USB C (Female) to USB A (Male) Adapte
I have a couple of devices that don’t have a USB-C port and these little things worked a treat, also being so compact I can leave them in, so no need to find them as they will always be there.
One of the tops did fall off, the other one is quite study and I gave the top a very strong tug.
The one with the top that came off still works fine, if anything it’s even more compact and less noticeable on my devices.
Even with the top that came off, they did what I wanted so I’m happy with them.
They work
To be honest there isn’t all that much for me to say about these connectors other than that they work, they offer a good connection when a USB to MicroUSB adapter is needed.
I chose to obtain a grey version of the adapter rather than black, that’s partly because so many cables are white now and aesthetically I find that more pleasing than black but that’s just a personal thing.
The price is perfectly acceptable and for me, the connectors work well so I do recommend them if you are looking for this type of product.
Compact USB-A TO USB-C Adapte
These tiny USB-A to USB-C adapters stand out from the crowd. Compact, rugged, absolutely no physical weaknesses, plug it in and just results that won’t let you down!
I appreciate gold plating for improving signal and reducing corrosion. When it comes to signal that is where the value in gold out performs nickel plating.
The description however is misleading. In the product image it is said to use gold plating. In the About this item section it clearly confirms nickel plating which is in my experience not nearly as resistant.
If you have old electronics from decades gone by that used nickel you may find that the corrosion rendered these items useless in the future unless gold plating was used they should still be in good working condition.
Otherwise a very nice product but quantity discounts are odd? Just buy four it’s a good deal. Enjoy!
I really like these, super small
They do what it says on the tin, converts from C to A type USB M>M. You will lose some speed as opposed to a full USB-C to USB-C connection, but this is expected since USB-A is slower. However, no complaints and since they’re cheap and come in a 4 pack I just put them in draws at work, in my back and at home so I can always have them handy. You can’t really go wrong with these.
Good value multipack of handy adapters
Most people have older PCs with USB A ports or chargers and lots of USBC cables, so these adapters are a handy way to maintain compatibility between devices without spending more on lots of different cables.
These are also handy where you want to utilise more of your ports on your PC, whereby you can use both the USB C ports and USB A ports and adapt as needed, which was my use case for these.
The adapters appear well made and nicely branded, and i expect they will last a while.
Very compac
This is a pair of very small USB C to A adaptors. They are going straight into my travel bag for use wherever I need a charge using my USB C-only leads but where the charge point only has USB A sockets. This seems very common – planes, trains, hotels etc. seem often only to offer USB A charge points. However I’m finding that devices purchased over the last couple of years often only supply USB C to C leads. So that’s where these adapters come in useful – they save you from having to carry two different leads around.
They work exactly as you would expect. but I noted that the USB A plug was not a particularly tight fit (the USB C socket was fine). It was OK, but it was a little too easy to dislodge it slightly from a wall point if knocked. So I’ll be double-checking to ensure the charge light on my devices is lit up and that the wires can’t be easily knocked so as to cause an accidental unplugging.
Make your USB-C phone/peripherals compatible with your older USB-A charger/compute
I received this item as part of the Amazon Vine program, in return for a frank and honest review of the product.
TL/DR – An excellent way of making newer phones/peripherals work with older chargers/computers
If you are like most people, every couple of years you upgrade your smart phone and in the past, every few years the cable type that was used for charging changed. We’ve had USB-A to micro USB, USB-A to 30-pin iPhone, USB-A to lightning – and now after a European directive, all phones will need to have USB-C as standard. So this generates a problem, because we all tend to have a draw that is full up of old style cables and chargers. Obviously if the charging port is changed from one type to another, you need a new cable, but what about the charger? Apple no longer include chargers with their phones (They stopped on the release of the iPhone 12) and they say that if you need a new charger, they will happily sell you one – when you’ve just spent how many hundreds of pounds/dollars/euros on a new phone?
Well, now you can save yourself a few quid with these very handy adapters. Just plug the adapter into your existing chargers USB port and then plug your USB-C cable into the rear end of the adapter and voila! Your old USB-A charger is now compatible with your new USB-C smartphone.
But, these adapters don’t just work with chargers. You can also use them to connect newer USB-C peripherals like external hard drives or printers to your older USB-A computer or USB hub. No longer will you have to consider changing your computer just because you can no longer find an external hard drive, printer, scanner or whatever with a USB-A cable. No longer will you have to consider sending a perfectly good computer to landfill – you can make your computer compatible with modern USB-C tech for just a few pounds.
I tested the adapter by connecting it to the USB-C cable on an SD card adapter and plugging it into the USB 2.0 port on a laptop. I copied a movie file that was 1.1gb in size. It took around 90 second to transfer the file from the computer to the flash drive connected to the adapter. The flash drive was not a USB 3.0 drive, it was an older very slow USB 2.0 drive, so the transfer speed was quite reasonable considering.
These USB-C to USB-A adapters really are excellent and have saved me around 30 on no longer needing to buy a new charger for my new iPhone 15.
Bit of a niche product but read o
I have a small handful of items that supposedly have a USB-C charger port, but don’t work with a USB-C to USB-C cable. I have an ever diminishing number of USB-A to C cables.
Keeping these tiny adaptors around means that you can repurpose a USB-C to USB-C cable, as a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, meaning that those electronics (retro consoles, torches etc.) can be charged from a standard USB-A outlet.
Very useful USB converter !
This is a very useful USB-C female to USB-A Male adaptor.
It enables you to plug your USB-C male lead from your device into its USB-C female socket, then in turn plug the devices USB-A male lead into a USB-A female socket into your laptop or desktop that doesn’t have a USB-C socket.
As I have few desktops and laptops that don’t have a USB-C socket, this is invaluable for charging my phone and storage banks that only have USB-C sockets.
I just leave this device permanently on the end of the phone/storage bank lead and of course it takes up hardly any extra space and you don’t have to go looking for it either.
Conclusion :
At 7.99 for 4, at time of this review (9 December 2023), they work out at under 2 each which I think is good value, they are also very well made.
4 stars for me all day long, a really good product that solves a ‘real life’ problem’.
Lovely addition to everyday needs
These adapters are so handy to have around the house, cant even begin to say how good these are. For older machines to adapt to type-c its a bless, these adapters are perfectly clean tested with a usbkill shield.
Speed is limited to the USB hub you plug it into but for general use its a lifesaver. Tried it with a powerbank that does not have a type-c out and it works pretty well, runs quick charge 3.0 perfectly fine without impact on voltage.
Retro-fit for current USB C cables
These adapters were ordered as a retro-fit for my current USB C cables as the charging points on trains/buses and other public settings are still the older USB A ports.
I tested these at home using the port from a power strip as well as the old fast-charger and it worked well (though I’m used to superfast USB C charging now).
At the time of review, the twin pack is priced at 6.99 – the triple pack is actually priced at 5.99 giving much better value for money (hence the deduction of a star)
Perfec
This is a 4 pack of USB C to USB A adaptors. They came packaged in an anti-static plastic bag.
These are particularly useful now many products ship with USB C connectors and cables, yet there is only ever one USB C port on devices. This product enables you to use them on old style USB A ports. They look nice, they have gold connectors and a black plastic body. The cable connects to them securely and locks in place, so it won’t slip out.
It is definitely worth buying a pack of these, as you never know when you might need them, and they are really cheap too.
Great handy little adapte
Little gadgets that can get you out of a bind when you don’t have the right cable can be a God send. A lot of Cables these days are USB C to USB C types now, this Adapter turns this kind of cable into one you can use in a Wall Socket, Laptop or Travel Charger, great for keeping in a Purse, Wallet or Car Glove Box for when needed.
