Got this for great grandson’s Christmas present after getting let down by the first present I got him, this not only makes up for that but exceeds it, stunning and he will spend Christmas playing with it and loving every mome
I’m suitably impressed with the design of this. It has a handle well placed on the back for holding to make the spaceship fly. The buttons are within easy reach of this, to press to make the sounds and lights work. There’s also a button to open the hatch to release the little yellow man in his capsule. My 5 year old gets a bit frustrated trying to fit the capsule into the underside compartment as it has to be inserted a particular way to fit and the hatch to close, but that’s the only downside I’ve found with this.
There is a small amount of straightforward assembly required on getting out of the box, and it requires 3xAA batteries so that the sounds and lights work. Currently priced at 64.99 I think that is quite dear, but the toy is well loved in this house.
My grandson at the age of five has several joys one of which is Buzz Lightyear so when this came up I ordered it for him.
On opening, this comes almost as a complete model with just a handful of parts that require putting together. The instructions say that adult supervision is required for assembly but there really aren’t that many to do so I would say that it depends on the age and ability of the child. My budding engineer grandson wanted to build it himself and with just a little prompting he did manage it without much trouble.
Once the model has been put together it requires three AA batteries to enable the lights and sound effects, I have never seen the film and know very little about Buzz Lightyear but I assume that this spaceship is for his enemies at least thats how my grandson plays with it, he battles with his Buzz in one hand and this model in the other having a lot of fun in the process.
The model itself is well made and looks very detailed, included with the ship are a couple of small parts which can be launched from the main body, I have no idea who or what they are but it all works very well, lol.
Overall, this is not a cheap item but it does give a young fan a lot of joy which can be priceless and the only response that I can get out of my grandson when asked about it is “I love, I love it, I love it”.

As expected with any Lego sets, they are expensive, however, they are also very popular so the price tag is usually paid without question. I personally don’t think this is worth the 65 asking price but then I have purchased many lego sets for my son when he was younger without so much as batting an eyelid.
This is quite a large set and seeing as though it is the latest Disney Pixar Lightyear Mothership, I am not surprised by its expense.
Surprisingly for Lego, there is not much putting together to be done, which is good for me but rather disappointing for my son who likes building things. You are required to supply 3x AA batteries to enable it to activate the lights and sounds. This is operated by a simple button on top of the ship. There are many different features to discover on this ship that many kids will get ages of fun discovering. I also think if they are a fan of this film, it will be a ‘must have’ and once built, I can see older kids displaying it on their bedroom shelves as opposed to using it as a toy.
For me, the price is a little high, but considering it is the latest thing from Disney, it is to be expected. I’d be tempted to score this 3/5 but as my son thinks it is good and I dare say other kids would, I’d score 4/5.
There is a minor amount of assembly required on arrival. The parts are all numbered and the instructions are easy enough to follow. The pieces simply need clicking in to place. The ship requires 3 AA batteries to power it, the large red button on top controls the lights and sound effects. The lights are located inside the rockets and flicker while engine noises are played simultaneously.
The body of the ship is very detailed, and there are four hidden compartments and some extendable landing legs built into the hull of the ship. Either of the bottom two hatches is able to hold the escape pod. There is a handle on the roof which makes it easier to ‘fly’ and press the buttons at the same time. The two smaller red buttons act as release / ejections buttons. Pressing one will cause the door to fling open dropping the pod to the ground. On contact with the ground the pod will burst open revealing a little yellow figure. It’s very cool and fun to play with and has lots of interesting features to discover.
One of the best things about this toy is that most of the action features still work without the need for batteries. Obviously apart from the lights and sound effects. Also when dropped the wings will fall off rather than snap or breaking. That way they can easily be reattached, this is great as it means they won’t break easily when being played with.
Our daughter loves the lights and sounds. I think if you or your child is a fan of the Lightyear animation you will love this either as a toy or collectable, it’s well done. I think definitely one for fans only though due to the hefty price tag 54.00 as of August 2022, I think it’s only worth it if you are your children really love the film.
I’ve been a fan of toy story ever since childhood. The first film was released the year I was born and I’ve loved it ever since. I was excited when a new film came out and to see it taking a new direction. Having recently watched the film I thought it was great, albeit not as good as the original, but that still didn’t stop the collector in me from seeking out new merchandise. I was over the moon to be able to get the chance to review this ship. It didn’t get masses of air time in the movie, but the glimpses we did get made me want to own one. The zurg we know and love never got a ship like this, so I am pleased to be able to put this on the shelf alongside him. This ship is superbly made. It may be a little on the pricey side, but it looks great in person and it is huge. The detail is excellent, and the fins come separate for your to easily clip on when it arrives. The bonus here though is the lights and sounds. You simply install 3 aa batteries and the jets on the back glow green and various mechanical noises emerge from a speaker at the push of a button. You also receive a pod and a zurgbot which fit inside an open up compartment under the ship. The whole toy is great, and kids young and old will be sure to love it. The colour scheme looks just like zurg and the ship has been faithfully recreated from the design in the movie. If you’re considering getting it, i’d say don’t hesitate, as it’s a must have for all fans. 5*
