Design seemed strange at first but this was fantastic. Super comfortable and importantly allowed one to sleep without any of the usual neck ache. Definitely my new favourite travel buddy
The problem with European holidays is the early morning flights. I find those half-doughnut sleeping cushions uncomfortable and needed something to support my neck. This Trtl travel pillow is perfect for me and I no longer wake up with neck pain.
This was recommended to me by a frequent flyer, I have purchased for an upcoming 16 hour trip.
On testing the fit and comfort it does the trick Iwill update once I have travelled.
This is the best travel “pillow” I’ve had. I’m a terrible sleeper and often get zero sleep on a plane. Whilst this isn’t a miracle cure ( didn’t give you extra leg room for instance!!) it really helps. Combined with ear plugs and an eye mask I managed to get about seven hours of solid dozing on a 14 hour flight. It’s expensive but probably worth it if you struggle to get some sleep on a plane. It does get uncomfortable after a few hours of sleeping but I just moved the support round to the other side of my neck and dozed back off. Easy to put on and really excellent support.
It’s a refreshing change to a horrible travel pillow I have used in past. Used it for a long haul flight and I slept through most of it! High recommend!
Although it doesn’t natter on your size these are especially useful if your tall as you really don’t get much support on airplane seats if your head is taller than the seat
Comfortable and easy to clea
I was recommended by a friend to try this product after she said it works great on long plane journeys. Managed to pick this up at almost half price and I didn’t know it came with a travel bag too to keep everything together when travelling. Can’t wait to use this on my next long haul flight – so far the support seems very sturdy and comfy.
Not had the chance yet to use on a long haul flight but at the moment it feels comfortable and certainly looks like it might be very comfortable on an overnight flight and not leave me with a cricked neck. I have 2 long haul flights coming up so looking forward to putting it through its paces then.
Really please with the product, don’t like normal travel pillows however this is very different. Haven’t used it on a trip yet but testing really supports my head and I’m able to wear my headphones with them which other pillows I’m unable to.
I bought this as pulled a muscle just before 14 hours of flying. I used it to support my head whilst sitting and relaxing and sleeping. It really helped to relieve the tension and was effective in helping me get some sleep. I was a bit hot at one point but adjusted the support a little and managed to sleep again. I’m glad I had this with me.
The cloth outer sleeve can be removed for easy washing, too, which makes it a great alternative to pre-filled travel pillows that can only be hand-washed (or not really washed at all). It’s a little bit pricey, but well worth it if you value your comfort.
When using this product in a seat that has a recline, like the airplanes we were in, it would be a 5/5 product on its own. We also used an eye mask and had noise cancelling headphones on. The one draw back is, as we were using over the ear headphones, it can easily be pushed off your ear on the side that has the plastic to support your head – just something to be aware of. Earbuds would likely not have this issue.
We unfortunately found ourselves in the position of trying to get sleep in a space that was just a 90-degree chair/set-up. This of course is not a magic solution for sub-optimal sleeping positions and even though I positioned the support to the front of my head, I felt this was going to give me more than it did.
Overall, due to the high starting price, the issue with over the ear headphones and its drawback that I experienced (maybe too high expectations on my side), it’s a 4/5.
Other travel pillows provide support at the back and sides, which us useless. You already have a chair behind your head, usually with headrest bits on the sides. The problem is that your head falls slightly forward. This either prevents you from falling asleep, or if you are able to fall asleep with your neck in a weird postion, it means you’ll wake up with a very sore neck (and even then it won’t be very long before you wake up).
With the Trtl providing support in the only area where support is needed – i.e. in front – you can just relax. Your jaw kind of rests / leans on it on one side, and that’s it. No movement. Most of the weight of your head is still leaning to the back/side, but with support at the front/side, it stays put. The shape of the Trtl is flexible enough that it doesn’t feel too rigid, i.e. it doesn’t feel like it’s poking into you. It’s comfortable. And you can adjust it anyway – you just pull it around slightly further to the front or slightly further around the side, slightly up or down etc until it’s in the right spot, then that’s it.
I fly long-haul frequently. Also at least once per year I fly UK-Australia return. With all of these long haul flights I’ve never been able to actually fall asleep. I kind of doze but that’s all.
I’ve just done the UK-Australia return trip using the Trtl for the first time. I slept for 4 hours both ways (I was working, watching movies and doing other things the rest of the time, also travelling with small children, so I only had my eyes closed for slightly longer than this – in other words I got almost as much sleep as I possibly could). This is a dramatic difference. The Trtl + an eye mask solved this problem for me.
So whats it like in the real world?
Well for me (and all those travelling with me that tried it) we loved it. It is not going to replace a business class seat but it is as comfortable if not more comfortable than a bulkhead near the window.
Yes you look ‘different’ for wearing it but on a plane do you really ever care that much? The support it gives you is just enough not to cause a crick in the neck and the ability to cover your mouth is actually quite nice sometimes.
Yes you might dribble into it but which is better… dribble into this or down your top or on someones shoulder (I would like to state for the record that I am not a dribbler thankfully so won’t ever know!).
20 is maybe a fiver too much for what it is but to be honest if you are doing a trip to China like I was you really won’t care if you can get some shut eye.
Likewise I then had a 5hr drive afterwards and it was a blessing as much there as it was on the plane(s).
All in all a great idea that I will keep safely and take on any 2hr+ journey (if not for me, then for others).
But other than that it is a very good product to get some comfortable sleep and it does work!
