Ensuring the safety of curious little ones while maintaining ease of access for adults is a delicate balance that many childproofing solutions promise but don’t always deliver. The LIL CHERUBZ Magnetic Safety Locks, however, stand out as a beacon of reliability and effectiveness in the sea of child safety products. Based on my experience, these locks are a game-changer for parents and guardians looking to safeguard their homes without compromising on convenience.

    Installation: A Breeze with Options

Right from the outset, the ease of installation is commendable. The inclusion of templates is a thoughtful touch, eliminating the guesswork and potential frustration associated with aligning and fitting the locks. This attention to user experience from the get-go sets a positive tone for the product.

However, it’s worth noting that while the 3M adhesive provides a quick and tool-free option, its durability under frequent use is questionable. In my case, the locks attached with adhesive tape to high-traffic cupboards, such as the one under the kitchen sink, eventually gave way. This is not a deal-breaker, though, as the kit smartly includes screws for a more permanent fitting. Once secured with screws, the locks stayed put, showcasing their ability to withstand the rigours of daily use without faltering.

    Effectiveness: Secure Yet Accessible

The core functionality of preventing children from accessing potentially dangerous cupboards is flawlessly executed. The locks are invisible from the outside, preserving the aesthetics of your cabinetry while creating an invisible fortress against tiny intruders.

The magnetic key system, albeit requiring precise placement, is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it ensures that even if a child figures out the mechanism, successfully unlocking it would still be a challenge due to the need for exact alignment. On the other hand, this can sometimes be a minor inconvenience for adults, especially when in a hurry. Nonetheless, this slight learning curve is a small price to pay for the added security it brings.

    Design and Practicality: Thoughtfully Engineered

The design of the locks is sleek and unobtrusive, maintaining the integrity of your home’s aesthetics. With 10 locks and 2 keys included, the kit provides ample coverage for a typical home, making it an ideal solution for kitchens, bathrooms, and any other area with cupboards or drawers you wish to secure.

While the kit is marketed as screwless, my personal recommendation would be to opt for screw installation for long-term durability and peace of mind. This does not detract from the product’s appeal but rather enhances its versatility to suit different user preferences and needs.

Final Verdict: A Must-Have for Childproofing

In conclusion, the LIL CHERUBZ Magnetic Safety Locks are a standout solution for parents seeking a reliable, easy-to-install, and effective way to childproof their homes. While the adhesive option might not withstand heavy use, the alternative screw installation ensures longevity and durability. The precision required for the magnetic key may take some getting used to, but it ultimately contributes to the locks’ effectiveness.

For anyone in the throes of childproofing their home, this kit is not just a wise investment; it’s an essential one. It strikes the perfect balance between child safety and adult convenience, making it an invaluable addition to any household looking to create a safer environment for its youngest members.

Really easy to fit and work on all types of cupboard in my kitchen. They feel strong and secure so I no longer need to worry about my toddler opening and swinging on them or shutting her fingers in them

These were much better value for money than some other similar items listed. They were easy and simple to fit. Especially as they come with a handy tool to make sure the 2 halves line up as you fit them. Would buy again if I need more.

Needed to lock cupboards because of my baby. And it works . Can be a little tricky at times finding the magnet to unlock it but soon your ears tune into the sound when it unlocks and when it locks. Works well !

I baby sit my neighbours little boy who’s just started toddling and is in to everything.
These have been great to stop him exploring my kitchen cupboards. They were easy to fit and so far they have worked really well…much to his frustration. I like that you can’t see them too.
    Would happily recommend

These are a simple but clever locking mechanism that “hides” the lock from the outside. I really like that as so many of these fit externally and just make the kitchen look naff.

It’s a pretty simple idea, you fit a catch either side of the interior of the door/drawer and it automatically “locks” when you close it. You then use a magnet as a key and hold it over the area you fitted the catch, it pulls it back which releases the lock and you can open the door. The magnetic keys can just be stuck high up on the fridge out of reach of tiny fingers.

Generally this works exactly as advertised. The catch is nice and strong and would take some serious force to open without the magnet, there’s no way a toddler would manage it (some adults might as well). It can be fiddly to fit these to the inside of a drawer and it felt as much luck as judgement, but if I can manage it anyone can.

The magnet isn’t the strongest but I wonder if that’s intentional so that even if the pint sized terror does get his hands on it then he’d still have to put it on the right spot to get it to work.

The downside of this whole set up is that pretty much any magnet of sufficient strength will work and some toys or other household doodads can have magnets in them…meaning they might figure out they can unlock this by using their lemur stuffed toy with the magnetic hands…

LIL CHERUBZ Magnetic Safety Locks do exactly what they are intended to do – they make cupboards child proof.

They are easy to instal, which is good because the enclosed instructions are useless, apart from providing a few moments of amusement due to their poor translation. Once we had worked out how to use the provided installation guide, the lock mechanism and latch plate were easy to position. The 3M adhesive strips are strong enough to hold the lock and latch plate in place. However, as it difficult to predict when the adhesive might fail, we decided to also use the provided screws to ensure a more permanent fix.

My initial impression was that the lock and latch plate did not appear particularly robust. However, we have had the locks in place on our kitchen cupboards for nearly a month and they have survived numerous operations without any apparent deterioration in function. Fitting them in our kitchen has provided us with great peace of mind when our very mobile and increasingly inquisitive grandson comes to stay.

The pack comes with locks and fittings for 10 doors or drawers and should be sufficient for the average size kitchen. At current price of 14.99, the LIL CHERUBZ Magnetic Safety Locks are competitively priced with comparable products.

One star deducted for poor fitting instructions.

    Otherwise, would recommend.

I have installed these child locks around the drawers and cupboards of my kitchen. They are a little tricky to install, but once over that hurdle the 3M tape keeps them securely in place – indeed it’s even hard for an adult to get into a cupboard unless brute force is used!

I was a little disappointed in the magnets that come with this set. I have seen other products that provide slightly more weighty (powerful) magnets that mean that you don’t have to be quite so precise with the placement of the magnet ‘key’ to unlock cupboards.

Overall, this is a great product but the magnet power lets it down slightly. I know that more powerful magnets can be purchased on Amazon if this starts to annoy me too much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great child locks, slightly underwhelming magnet 'key' strength.

These child locks are brilliant, I’ve installed them on all of our lower kitchen cabinets and our bathroom cabinet.

They are very easy to install with the installation ‘cradle’ provided. Just pop both parts of the lock device in the respective parts of the cradle, remove the backing from the adhesive pads, stick the smaller part of the lock on the inside the cabinet and then close the cabinet door and the door will stick to the bigger part of the lock, and they will be perfectly lined up on your cabinet doors.

As you can see in my video, you simply place the magnetic ‘key’ on the spot where the lock is situated inside the cabinet door, and it unlocks the lock. Remove the magnet and it locks again.

Small stickers are provided to place on the spot that you need to put your magnetic key to unlock the door, in case you can’t remember the right spot or a childminder/grandparent etc isn’t sure where they are.

The locks can also be set in the unlocked position if you don’t need them locked, for instance while your toddler is in nursery and there are only adults home.

The adhesive is strong enough to stop my toddler getting into the cupboards, but small screws are provided for extra lock strength if necessary.

My only small niggle is that the magnetic locks are simply placed on a round base and can easily be taken off. This is fine if you can place them high enough out of reach of your children, but other similar products have keys which have to be twisted on and off their base, which offers a bit more peace of mind that your child won’t just pull them off if they manage to get to them somehow.

Overall, excellent product at a reasonable price and I’m very happy to recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, got them on all of my cabinets!

Our cabinets are a bit misaligned due to their age, causing some issues with these locks. Although we plan to redo them, the current situation posed challenges as they aren’t all set properly, and some tend to stick. Initially, after installing them, the system worked perfectly, and we appreciated the option to ‘unlock’ without a key for easy access. However, after a month or two, one has stopped working correctly. It won’t lock, and checking reveals it’s not stuck in the unlocked position. It’s frustrating, especially since it’s the one under my sink with chemicals. We have spare locks and plan to replace it, but since we screwed them for better adhesion, switching even one will be quite a process. Despite this, the installation was relatively easy once my husband figured it out, taking about 30 minutes. The handy little tool for placement proved quite useful.

Comes with everything you need to help secure a cupboard or any hinged box and its contents from curious hands.

First, read the instructions that come with the pack, this will aid in installation of the locks. The pack comes with an installation cradle with takes the guess work out of installation, simple clip both the lock and the catch into the cradle, line up where the door will sit with the frame of the cupboard, peel off the sticky pad and stick the catch (with the cradle to the frame and press firmly for a short while, then peel the backing off the lock and close the door. The lock will then stick to the door in the perfect spot. Remove the cradle from the catch and you are done.

The locks also come with a “disable” switch which will keep the lock unlocked, so perfect if you only need to secure the cupboard part time.

If the door and frame allows, I would also recommend securing the lock and catch with the included screws after a “first fit” with the sticky pads (especially on wooden doors/frames as this will give a much stronger bond to surfaces. however the adhesive pads seem strong enough to keep the lock and catch secure against younger kids if applied to unpainted/unvarnished surfaces.

The included stickers help you remember where to place the “key” but if the door is thin enough the key may also magnetically stick to the lock once in the correct place. But on thicker cupboard doors this is not a certain.

The pack also comes with two disks which the keys will magnetically stick to, with adhesive backing allowing you to store the keys out of reach but also not misplace them.

Over all I am impressed by this pack and can see many uses help keep things just that little bit more secure from the youngsters.
