Amazing powerful flash with more than enough flash in the majority of situations you are likely to need flash. I bought two of these along with the Neewer Q-pro flash trigger. Bought a couple of softboxes and stands and have a decent set up. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy this flash if you not sure.

This flash speedlite is a photographer’s dream. Its powerful and versatile features bring out the best in every shot. The battery efficiency and fast recycling time ensure I never miss a moment.

The NW655 is a fully capable and functional speedlite. It requires AA batteries, so it does not come with a rechargeable battery pack. The screen is large and can give you a ton of information on it. It is very comparable to the Godox TT600 and has a slightly better recycle time from my testing. I probably ran about 100+ full power pops through it and the battery dropped one notch. Then when I turned it off and back on, it read full power again. So long story short, you can get a ton to flashes out of this strobe with some good quality batteries.

The build is as expected for a typical speedlite. That’s great as this is more aimed towards entry level and is built just as good as some more expensive models. It has a built in bounce card and diffuser. All of the functions and features seem to work well with no issues during my tests and attempts to make it overheat. Neewer did a great job with the construction and features put into this strobe.

    Nice budget speedlite

I’m primarily using this with my Nikon D3, but the TTL function doesn’t work. I’m also using with several Nikon F mount cameras. For the price, I think it’s a really good value.

This camera flash is a shining example of simplicity and effectiveness. It works seamlessly, doing exactly what it’s supposed to do—providing a burst of light precisely when needed. The intuitive design and reliable performance make it a hassle-free addition to my photography gear. Whether I’m capturing moments indoors or need an extra boost in low-light conditions, this flash delivers consistent and impressive results. It’s a straightforward solution that lives up to expectations, making it an essential tool for any photographer.

This is a TTL flash that is built similarly in terms of quality to Neewer’s NW line of flashes (that is to say, pretty good but not exceptional) but also the cheapest model that allows it to be used as both slave and master for the 2.4GHz wireless trigger system. It uses 4xAA batteries and performance wise is on par with most flashes in the surrounding price range. It does feature 3 steps per stop.

The main drawback for this model, and I suppose it is what you get in exchange to having a 2.4GHz Master trigger ability, is that the recharge/cycle times between flashes is the slowest I have seen among all the various Neewer flash models I have tried, including the super basic manual-only (plus optical slave) single-step-per-stop NW600 that is also about half the price of this one. Particularly for higher powered flashes the recharge cycle is painfully slow.

So although a feature-rich flash that does work well as intended, if you know you need to shoot with flash pretty often and need a quicker workflow involving flash and especially higher powered flash, look elsewhere. But for other means such as securing a fleet of wireless command flashes, this can be an interesting item if you do not need speed.

I Ordered this without carefully reading the description as it was late. I have had many Neewer products and have nearly always found them to be good products, so when I saw the words Speedlite Compatible I assumed it was compatible with a Canon Speedlite.

On arrival, I relised I should spend more time reading, and less on impulse, as it was compatible with Sony cameras. So, I cannot comment on how well it works, but on the assumed functionality.

The build quality is impressive, this seems easily as well made as my Canon Speedlite flash. The functionality list is impressive to me, but then I am an amateur photographer so whether this would suit a professional I cannot say. I liked that it has the built in 2.4G Wireless Q System, as I would imagine that could be a bonus.

It is a shame that it doesn’t use rechargeable batteries, but it isn’t a game changer, my Canon Speedlite uses 4 AA batteries, and that has never caused a problem. Overall, for the money, 95.99, it seems a pretty robust item.

It works really well and the build quality is great. Responds perfectly in TTL mode. Recycle time is very quick except at full power, but that’s to be expected. Nice clear screen and simple enough controls if you’ve used flashes before.

Compared to the cost of a Nikon branded unit this looks like a bargain.

It allows to easily increase the brightness of my shots.
This flash is powerful and has an intuitive mode dial that makes it easy to use and set up.
The vertical and horizontal adjustment capability ensures brilliant and bright results in different environments.
Allows me to illuminate the subject in a creative way by reflecting the light on walls/ceilings, or by shooting remotely.
I felt very comfortable using it.

I am new to advanced photography & have just started classes, I have a Nikon D5200. This flash covers all the features you will need, Nikon TTL (Through The Lens) automatic metering so the camera controls the flash unit, manual and multi. It has a built in diffuser and reflector and it automatically detects when you pull them out and adjusts automatically. In TTL you can still adjust the output if you want. It can wirelessly trigger 2 additional flashes, a feature I was not able to test, but I did test slave mode where it is triggered by the cameras built in flash. I have just started my photography journey, but just toying around with it with what little knowledge I have has resulted in some fantastic pictures over the built in flash.

This flash has so many features it’s going to take me a while to learn how to use it to it’s fullest, but…
You won’t get a whole lot of help from the manual. It is translated so poorly and has so many omissions that will will be left laughing and scratching your head, but with a little experimentation it starts to make sense. What is that USB port for???? My best guess is a firmware update.

I have a few other Neewer items and was happy with them, but this flash really impresses me. A similar Nikon flash is 3-5x the price of this unit, I doubt you could find a used one at this price.

Overall an excellent flash unit at an amazing price, build quality is excellent.
I am extremely happy with with this unit.

I’m a real estate photographer on the side, so I get pretty familiar with the speed lights I’m using. I’ve mainly only owned Neewer’s flash systems in the past, so I was excited to add another to my photography arsenal. There are certain features I like about this one, and some features that don’t particularly work with my field of photography. Ymmv.
What I do like is that it has the ability to work as a light source off camera, using Neewer’s Q system. I haven’t a need for this type of flash photography, but it’s nice if I decide to branch out and upgrade later. I also like the fact that it has an on/off switch, rather than a power on hold button. This makes taking ambient shots easier to take, at a flip of a switch. It has a lot of different settings, but you may get lost without the instruction manual handy, Most functions are coded, so it may take some time to get used to.
I mostly shoot manual flash, so being able to change the power setting is a necessity. It can be tricky to change the power as it requires pushing a button to select it, another to change it, and another to set it. This takes up time when I’m trying to get a job done in an efficient way. There is a setting that seems to turn on the radio rX that will allow you to change the power efficiently by just pushing the selector buttons, but I am not sure how much of that radio setting is eating away at battery life.
I use rechargeable batteries exclusively, otherwise I would be blowing through AA’s every day. I did not test if it will actually perform 230 1/1 flashes, but most speed lights have upwards of 100+ at full power (and I carry a lot of rechargeable AA’s). The capacitor charging time on a 1/1 cycle is definitely longer than what is stated in the description, more like around 4-5 seconds. That’s ok with me, if I’m using 1/1 on a shot, it’s usually a long exposure of a dark area, and the flash will have time to recycle anyway. This may not work if you need that strong of a flash quickly. The lower power ie., 1/8, 1/16 and lower, recycle almost instantaneously.
Overall, this is a great speed light if you are looking to expand with their Q system. It’s a little overkill for my line of work, but a great option to have in my camera bag. At the price point at the time I’m writing this review, $89 with a 20% off coupon brings this unit to $71 which is a nice deal for the features it possesses.
