A conversation starter.
This is at the same price point as an iphone, (I got mine for 200 pounds off, so your mileage may vary) lets compare it to the 14, since they are about the same age. Both are really great as a daily both have good enough cameras, brilliant screens and both come in exciting colours. However, the iphone wont start a conversation they dont stand out enough. The flip 5 has been something that grabs people attentions and gets a reaction. It starts conversations about the one other person they’ve seen with that type of phone and your friends are bound to give it a nickname. Mine got called the gameboy SP its fun because you get a sense of community. Another great thing about it is the practicality, if you get your clothes from the womens section it will fit in your trouser pockets unlike other phones. If you like to wear hoodies it will stay in your hoodie pocket unlike many other phones. It feels great in the hand but the screens aspect ratio is really weird and messes with a lot of apps. Speaking of the screen you dont notice the crease that much but you do notice that the screen feels quite soft this is both great and bad because although it feels nice you get worried about scratches even though it comes with a screen protector, you just dont want to risk it. Also get a case for it, it’ll still fit in your pockets and its worth it for the peace of mind

Same performance, half size in my pocke
It is my first flip phone, as I was never sure whether it will suit me and my life style. I am glad I changed my mind and applied to try this one out. My findings are: I love the design of it, looks very stylish, sleek and inviting to be explored. The size is perfect as now it fits into my pockets and does not stick out. It looks durable and sturdy as opposed to my initial thought of all flip phones being flimsy by default. It was easy to figure out settings, was easy to transfer everything I needed from Huawei to this phone. I am as probably many others is hooked of taking pictures of everything I fancy, so I must report back that camera is of high quality. I love that you can take selfies and video calls handsfree, as I use my phone very often for these both. I am yet to explore the other features of the camera a bit closer. I absolutely love that you can use half display when required, it is a great feature. The screen of the phone is impressive, it seems like a next level of experience. Lastly I must confess that it is a nice feeling to hold a new phone that attracted so much attention and positive comments from my family, friends and colleagues. If you ask me whether I recommend this product or not, I would say It is a definite YES from me. I am sure I am yet to discover some features, so will report back if there is chance to.

Huge Improveme
Now this is what the flip should have been from the beginning.

Outside screen is a joy to use now, especially if you install Samsung’s goodlock app.
Add to that the improved battery life and cameras and you have a flip phone that’s finally what I would call ready for the masses

The build quality feels premium while also being surprisingly light
When unfolded the inner screen is absolutely stunning, yes there’s a crease but you really stop noticing it after a day or so.

I have to say I’ve used flex mode a lot more than I thought I would. I just flip it 90 degrees when I’m at my desk and just have a video running while I’m working on something.
Stick it on a restaurant table and take a family photo with the rear camera (much higher quality), while still being able to frame it using the outer screen.

The inner camera has barely been touched.

The cameras are great, no it doesn’t have a zoom lens but it’s ultrawide and main cameras are definitely improved.

The cover screen customisation is something you can get lost in for hours, there’s just a crazy amount you can change and make this phone completely yours
Install the Samsung goodlock app and you can even run most phone apps natively on the outer display.
Just note that some don’t work that well but messaging apps, navigation and music all work perfectly for me.

Battery really surprised me, looking at the paper specs I was prepared to have to top up during the day but it easily gets me through a whole day with some left in the tank.

Not specific to this phone but the connectivity between my Samsung Smartthings devices which include TV, washing machine and dishwasher is built into the OS itself, allowing me to access these devices straight from the pull down shade, much more convenient.

Words cannot describe the satisfaction of ending a call by flipping it closed so if you’ve been holding back, but tempted by this compact yet large screen form factor for a while now, It’s the time to jump.

Flip 5 flexes to thrive
When the Samsung Z Flip 5 was announced I thought this is the time to take the plunge. After my first few days I must say I’m not disappointed by it.
The zero gap hinge is great and I got for the Starter pack that includes a great clear case and fast charger, as well as the official cover screen protector, both which I highly recommend. I wasn’t sure if the crease would be an issue for me, or how I would use the cover screen exactly, but I was intrigued to find out.
Unfolded it is just like any other top tier slab phone, and while I do notice the dip in the middle, I’ve gotten used to it being there and I don’t notice it when watching something full screen which is great.
When folded either slightly or all the way, however, that things get quite interesting.
The Flex feature for some apps turn the bottom half into a touchpad, which can do two finger scrolling, and a mouse pointer appears in the top half. This made it easier to use the phone when lying down in bed for instance. You can activate this for other apps not optimised for it if you wish too.
When fully folded, a few widgets can be accessed via the cover screen, and taking selfies, checking the weather, messages and replying were very convenient in this mode with my medium sized hands and fingers. I loved the customisation you can do for the cover lock screen.
Once I installed a third party app from the Samsung App store and enabled a cover screen feature, also recommended in various online reviews, I could use a lot more apps for music, contactless payments, ordering taxis, among other messaging, fitness and media apps. I definitely recommend doing that. With my medium use of the phone, the battery gets me through the whole day and then some, and the fast charger gets from 5% to 100% after 1hr 20min which was very quick. Fast charging does heat up the phone a bit and for better battery longevity I’d rather charge it up with a slower charger routinely. The battery settings interestingly had a setting to only charge to 85% for battery longevity which I need to read into more as I thought not charging to 100% would be worse for battery memory.
Anyway, overall I love this phone and would fully recommend it if you can stomach the price or get a good deal on it then go for it. You’ll enjoy using your phone in new ways and being able to fit it into smaller pockets is so much more convenient (despite making it a bit thicker this is definitely a great form factor!).

Flip phone conve
I was undecided about this phone or the Samsung S23 so was excited to get the chance to try the Galaxy Z Flip5 for myself and got to say I love it. Ticks all the boxes as a phone, Amoled screen is vivid and clear, decent processing speed and the battery lasts all day. The camera takes great photos even in low light levels and the fold design is great for video calls. The thing that has me sold though, is the cover screen. You can make calls, sends texts, watch YouTube and see notifications without opening the phone up. Can’t lie, you are aware of the fold across the screen especially when scrolling but you soon get used to it and its not detrimental in any way. Overall very pleased with this phone.

Brilliant Compact Powerhouse!

You can also use the main camera as a selfie camera, which has been upgraded to let in more light and reduce lens flare. The camera also has new features like FlexCam, Quick Shot, and Portrait Mode.

Cons: The battery capacity is the same as the Z Flip 4, which is 3,700 mAh. This means that you may not see a big difference in battery life, especially if you use the cover screen a lot. The phone does not have a headphone jack or a microSD card slot. This means that you will need to use wireless headphones or earbuds and rely on the internal storage for your files. The phone is expensive compared to other flagship phones that offer similar or better features and performance.

A premium, refined folding phone.
General Use:
Having never owned a folding phone before, I was curious how it would practically work day to day. So far, it has been a smooth process. Starting with the set up process. It is super easy to get your accounts logged in and you have the option of Samsung Smart Switch to port your apps from another phone. If you have previously used an android phone you will be familiar with much of the layout, however Samsung put their own style on top of Android which is sometimes very helpful with little prompts within option pages for further details. However, they do tend to still duplicate applications and there is no real benefit of having multiple messaging apps or having their internet app and also google chrome as well.
That said it’s not a major issue and the overall interface is easy to use and works well.
It has a handy fingerprint sensor built into the power button, this is a little tricky at times with the button being smaller than the usual area that you are given to place for many other fingerprint readers. I sometimes find myself placing it slightly out of position. The phone does also have a good face recognition system and that helps balance out the fingerprint issue.
The phone is very fast, I have had no issues with performance and if you are coming from a phone of a few years old you will find this a big improvement. Apps open quickly, there is no lagging. If you are a mobile gamer it would have no issue with any games available. Sound from the device is good, I would say one slight issue is on phone calls there is sometimes a small crackle noise. I am unsure if this is due to the screen not being as dense as a glass one and causing some vibration.
The phone is very good to hold and especially once opened, the width of the phone is great to use one handed, especially compared to other large screen phones.

The Flip:
The main feature is obviously the ability to fold the phone in half to reduce it’s footprint and also limit full screen time. This is executed very well, the screen is really lovely to use, it gets very bright and offers great colours for photos. The crease in the middle of the phone is noticeable to touch and also when using the phone however, it is not intrusive and after a while you don’t really pay much attention to it. So far, I have not had any issues with the mechanism but will have to see how it wears over time.

The best flip phone available!
This is a brilliant phone.

One of those rare handsets where everything coalesces perfectly. It feels premium in the hand, the new hinge exudes quality and creates barely any screen crease. Speaking of the screen, it is beautiful, and the battery is good enough for a full day of moderate use

The cameras are not class leading but the AI they are coupled with makes for excellent daytime results, usable night photography and intuitive, powerful editing.

What this handset proves is the flip phone has matured. Samsung has done almost everything right here, and the new larger flex screen is no longer a gimmick, offering a perfect balance of unintrusive usability without having to open up the main screen.

This is Samsung’s best flip to date and in my opinion the best flip available without exception.

Gone to the flipside....
Having received this phone a couple of days ago, I was dreading transferring all the apps and data from my current Android phone. I needn’t have worried as Smart Switch moved everything over via Wi-Fi in about 30 minutes. After 15 further minutes, I had my online banking and Samsung pay configured. In terms of appearance, neat aluminium edges along with the glass screen and coloured rear panel, this handset looks a quality item. At this size it’s ultra-pocketable plus it’s light. The cover screen is large enough to display a useful amount of information and alerts such as weather, health data, music tracks, caller information to which you can add selected widgets. The main screen is nice and bright, with content displayed clearly. I’d never really seen the point or need for a folding screen but in this form-factor it is a major plus. There is a slight ripple along the screen fold but it doesn’t become a distraction and is hardly discernible while watching full screen content like video. There doesn’t seem to be any effect on touch screen response over the fold. When typing, the on-screen keyboard is easy to use with less miss-keying and you can achieve decent speeds. As it’s Android 13, I’m using gesture-based navigation rather than the usual three buttons which works well and has less screen clutter. Battery life can get you through a day with moderate use but with gaming and lots of screen-on time this will reduce rapidly. Luckily you have wireless charging allowing charging in bars, cafes and cars without resorting to cables. Like many current phones, there is only a USB cable included in the box and you will need to provide a charger or wireless pad. Using the phone for cashless payments is simple using Samsung Pay and Samsung Wallet. The back of the bottom part of the phone needs to be held near the card terminal reader. In my normal use the phone is quick in loading up and switching between apps. I’ve not encountered any slow-down during my time with it. Overall, there’s a lot to like about the phone. It’s stylish, a good size without sacrificing a large screen and performs well with top hardware specs.

Flip 5 - Amazing!
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a stylish and elegant phone that feels sturdy while being surprisingly light.

The phones hinge mechanism is smooth and easy to handle. The exterior screen is beast, as you can stick your most-used apps on it and access them in an instant.

The Flip 5 offers one upgrade over the previous Flips on that its two halves fold perfectly flat with no gap. 512gb storage ensures that you have plenty of space for all the photos and videos you will be taking.

The use of the rear camera for selfies is particularly exciting. The software is snappy and fast as you can expect from a phone at this level.

Overall, having a fantastic time getting to know my new phone!!

A girls best friend
I absolutely love my new phone and there’s nothing that could convince me to go back to regular phones. Flip is addictive I must say and a girls new best friend! Easy to fit even in the jeans front pocket, evening and events small purse, in a running belt, fits just fabulously. As a owner of the first model of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and than Galaxy Z Flip 3, I must say that the new Flip 5 really comes up with some easy to observe upgrades. Firstly, the amazing cover screen that allows you do pretty much everything on the go, than the sleek improved look with no gap due to the upgrade on hinge, amazing storage up to 512GB, increased water resistance and long waited dual sim functionality. In my oppinisn, this is the closest to perfection phone ever. Only coming possible upgrades I could see would be the camera design and properties. So far, I just love it!

Battery life proved itself a steadfast companion, never forsaking me during my busy days. Fast charging replenished its energy swiftly, ensuring I remained connected and productive without pause. Navigating the interface was a seamless experience, with Samsung’s intuitive One UI adapting flawlessly as I folded and unfolded my technological companion.
