THE top gangster film of all time hackneyed story line of down and out ex GI and his pals making good
in the 20s.
Cagney is in top form(his best ever role?) but is ably supported by a top notch Humphrey Bogart, Priscilla Lane and Gladys George as the woman who pines for his unrequited love but has one of the all-time classic
closing lines in any film.
Now lets see ‘Public Enemy and ‘White Heat’ in 4K!
An Americans life from the end WW1 thro the 1920's.
Cagney meets Bogart ,having a rather too cosy chat in the trenches of France, meet up again in the US, after finding their previous employment has dried up, so they turn to selling illegal booze in the prohibition.
A bit too much singing for my liking, but its an enjoyable romp thro the 1920’s, none the less.
Great film in 4k
Classic Hollywood gangster caper, Cagney and Bogart are on top form, the quality of the 4k is very impressive and great to finally see it on worthwhile films like this.
This movie has to be somewhere near the top of the film noir gangster movie category.
Why it’s taken so long to put it out on blu ray is mystifying to me, but I suppose better late than never.
