I usually always buy fixed head rakes, which tend to cost around double the price of this one, so having a lightweight adjustable one is a nice addition to my collection of gardening tools. When the rake head is fully expanded, the prongs do feel a lot springier and bouncy compared to what I’m used to, so the prongs can then get bent more easily on this rake.
I think the best features are how small it folds up when you retract the head to its smallest span, and put the telescopic handle down. Also, the ability to adjust the tension and change the distance between prongs to the size of materials you are raking up is very useful. When you reduce the span of the rake head, it tightens up the prongs to make them stiffer. This allows you to reach into smaller spaces, which would be awkward and more difficult with a larger fixed head rake. With this, I can reach in between groups of plant pots, and around individual plants in beds and borders. It’s also good at loosening dead stems on last years flowers for a good spring clean-up.
What’s not so good is that although this has a telescopic handle, even at full extension, it isn’t very long. It’s a little longer if using the rake with the head at its widest, but when using at it’s smallest span, you have to stoop a little. The handle length is fine for me at 5ft. 4″, but my husband at 5ft. 11″ finds it too short for him to comfortably use. Also, the handle diameter is not substantial enough to make this rake feel particularly sturdy, or comfortable enough to use for long periods of time if you have a very large garden, and a huge amount of raking to do. If you are used to professional grade gardening tools, the build quality of this can make it feel a little like a toy.
It does have it’s place in the market though, and it’s perfectly adequate for anyone who would appreciate the ability to use a rake that doesn’t weigh very much, and who would appreciate the versatility of being able to adjust the width of the rake head quickly and easily. I like it, but don’t love it. It’s still very useful for lightweight tasks, and for reaching between pots and containers though.
Nice compact garden tool.
Much more compact than a normal rake – This compacts down to a very small size indeed. Stainless, so it won’t rust and has a good spread when fully opened.
The opening mechanism is a trifle stiff, but I reckon a little 3in1 would fix this. No big issue.
Not the strongest of tools, so for anyone doing masses of garden work, it might be best to invest in a more substantial rake – but for simply clawing back grass cuttings or leaves – this is perfectly suitable.
Good for small gardens.
I only have a very small garden, so space is very much at a premium and i’m always on the look out for space saving items, this rake is ideal as it folds down pretty small and takes up almost no space!
It is quite lightweight and probably wouldn’t be great for a large garden/heavy duty work, but for getting a smaller garden leaf free its ideal.
Opening and closing has a bit of a knack, but once you’ve done it a couple of times its easy.
I think its decent for the price.
Versatile and User-Friendly Garden Tool for All Abilities
his rake has proven to be an invaluable addition to my collection. Its versatility extends beyond the typical leaf-gathering duty, making it a multi-functional tool for various gardening tasks.
One of the standout features is the ability to adjust both the width and length of the rake. This flexibility allows me to tackle different jobs in the garden with ease. Whether it’s raking up grass cuttings, gathering leaves, or preparing a bed for planting, this rake has proven its worth in every task I’ve thrown at it.
The adjustable handle lets me customize the length to suit my needs. This feature is particularly useful for individuals with different heights or those who prefer a specific handle length. The rake accommodates various preferences, enhancing its usability for a wider range of users.
However, I do have a slight reservation about the strength of the locking lever. It feels a bit flimsy, and there’s a concern about its long-term durability. this design choice makes the rake incredibly easy to use, especially for those with limited hand strength. It strikes a balance between sturdiness and user-friendliness.
What truly sets this rake apart is its lightweight design. It allows me to engage in extended gardening sessions without feeling fatigued. Unlike heavier alternatives, this rake lets me work efficiently without straining my muscles, making it an ideal choice for individuals with disabilities or those who may struggle with heavier tools.
Adjustable rake, great for collecting leaves and acorns
Rake is compact, not requiring a much space in the shed when collapsed down into its original state.
The handle extends out and is comfortable in the hand – with or without gardening glove.
The rake head is then adjusted by releasing a lever and then moving the leaver up and down the shaft until a suitable size between the prongs is made; larger for leafs and smaller when raking up acorns for example.
I did try the rake on the moss in the grass, and it did seem to want pull it, but to be honest I didn’t want bare patches at this time of year and so stopped.
This is really good at raking up leafs, and for using as a large hand to scoop the leafs up into the compost or green waste bin.
garden rake

I had my previous rake for many years and it finally broke. This rake is lighter than my previous rake. I don’t think it’ll be any good for heavier duty jobs like raking the moss from my lawn, but for some light leaf raking it’s fine.
Would only recommend for light use/ small gardens
The rake arrives and is in it’s compacted position – ie handle small and rake spokes together, so it looks nice and neat.
It doesn’t come with any instructions and you may think ‘well, it’s just a rake, how hard can it be?’. Yet I spent a good 5 minutes baffled as to how to open the spokes. Maybe I’m just getting daft in my old age but a simple instruction leaflet would have helped!
I did eventually work it out. There is a lever on it, which I had been opening and closing but just couldn’t work out what it did. Well, it releases tension on the pole. So, whilst holding the black lever in one hand, you gently the pull the pole away from the spokes with the other and they start to open. You then close the lever back down to secure.
The extension of the pole is rather simpler, by pulling up and gently turning till it tightens at the required length.
The rake probably isn’t the strongest on the market and I wouldn’t recommend for a big garden. The fact that the pole is extendable will always take some of the sturdiness out of it.
But, for people with small gardens and limited storage space, I think this is ideal.
Easily adjustable.
The ‘ZENO Garden Rake, Leaf Rake, Rake for Gardening, 31-67 Inch’ arrived in a branded box.
The rake is slightly lighter than our old rake, but still effective. It is nice and compact for storage and with the adjustable length handle suitable for people of most heights. If the handle is not extended it may suit children, so a way of getting them interested in the garden.
This rake is almost identical to our old rake except it has an extending handle. The turn to tighten system used to extend the handle can be a bit of a problem for those that rotate their wrist a small amount when using, as it could cause the handle to work loose.
The spread of the tines is adjustable by changing the position of the clamp; we tend to use it at about half way to aid it raking leaves from the shingle. With a slightly narrower spread it also does a good job of levelling the shingle.
My only concern is the lever for the tine mechanism as this is basically the same design as the one on our old rake and that broke over time, but that one is now over 30 years old. I would suggest storing out of sunlight which may extend the mechanisms life.
Good rake for light duty work.
This is a lightweight rake . If you handle it carefully you can get good results.
It think the best points about it are that it has a variable length and it is not too heavy. Also the spread of tines is fully adjustable which is a clever feature and allows for use in more confined spaces.
To use it you you pull the adjustment trigger to open the tines to the width that you want. You then pull out the telescopic part and twist to lock it into place.
I particularly like that it can be collapsed for storage which makes it more convenient for those who only have limited space. A bad point is that it is held together with rivets only. Some sort of nut and bolt mechanism would have been better although these could be retro fitted.
I do not think it would last very long if you tried it for extended heavy duty use.
To summarise, this is a light duty rake which is well made and will suit those with smaller gardens and limited storage space.
Good Range of Adjustment and Reasonably Priced
This adjustable rake arrived in a sturdy, branded cardboard box.
I got this to replace a similar rake that has seen better days. The old one had the same sort of mechanism to expand the tines but the handle length wasn’t adjustable like this one.
The telescopic handle extends by twisting it to unlock, pull it out to the required length and twist it back to lock (like a walking pole). The width of the tines is adjusted by lifting the locking lever, sliding the tines to the required width and pushing the lever back to lock. There’s quite a good range of adjustment and I’ve attached pictures with the handle at its shortest and the tines at their narrowest and the handle at full length and the tines at full width (that’s a 1m rule in the pictures).
At full width the tines are a bit wobbly but that’s true of all these types of adjustable rake. An adjustable tool like this is never going to be as solid as a fixed one so don’t expect it to be.
My main use for this is tidying up the shrubbery. The adjustable width makes it much easier to get in between the plants than with a fixed width rake. Also, being able to shorten the handle makes this rake very useful for getting into tight spaces like under hedges.
I haven’t had this rake long enough to comment on its long term durability or performance but I’ll update this review if there’s anything to report.
The local DIY centre sells a virtually identical rake for 24.99 so at 14.95 this is very reasonably priced and it gets 5 stars.
Good standard expanding leaf rake.
We get through a few of these as we have a lot of trees and this one appears similar to others.
It just drops a star as the tines are made of soft steel so they bend easily. This is a pain if you catch a trunk, log, rock etc as it misshapes them. They will bend back though.
The telescoping handle works, but as others have commented on, its always a weak point.
For the money, its fit for purpose. Give it a spray with WD after each use.
Good quality lawn rake 🌿
This ZENO Telescopic Garden Rake is a good piece of garden equipment. Compact, telescopic and easy to store. I ordered it to replace a broken one.
It doesn’t have the resistance of an ordinary lawn rake but for the telescopic feature it is decent.
The build quality and feel is substantial and as a person with disabilities and sight problems, I find it lightweight to use. I like that you can adjust the prongs too. Also it’s adjustable to any width I need for raking leaves etc. from the gravel in my front and back gardens.
It’s ideal to keep in my small shed as it doesn’t take up much space.
It comes nicely packaged and boxed.
The price is a little beyond what I consider reasonable therefore I deduct a star and score it 4/5.
