Great laser printe
Bought for home use. Good quality. We like the sleep mode but it wakes up quickly when required to print. Prints double-sided and the paper is stored in a tray completely within the unit unlike our old laser printer which had it sticking out of the front. We’re pleased with our purchase.
It just works
After having some awful experiences with printers over the years – a Samsung laser printer that was temperamental garbage, and an HP Inkjet that was temperamental garbage that drank ink like an alcoholic in a vat of beer, its just so nice to have a printer that I can send a document to and it prints it. No fuss.
Speedy, clear printing
I needed an everyday printer for black and white documents at a reasonable price and have found that in this neat printer. Prints are clear and print quickly, so far without any problems. I found the online set up for wifi a bit complicated but can easily print direct from iphone and laptop without any problems. Am very happy with this printer.
YES BROTHER!
Finally the shackles of a HP inkjet printer have been removed from my limbs and I can print, scan and copy when I want without a subscription service being forced down my throat!
I’d like to think that in 6 months time when I go to use the printer again it will just work too rather than forcing me to spend another 40-50 on new cartridges that were practically new 6 months ago. I will report back.
No frills … just prints !
Good old school style solid B&W laser printer. Easy to setup and the wi-fi printing from phone and computer is a great addition. Print quality is very good. Only negative is the scanner which produces grainy photo images. But for simple doc scanning it does the job.
On off button could be in a better positio
Printer works well and is quiet, good backup software, on off button would be better nearer the front, as when under a PC desk it not easy to get to, other than that OK
great printer but watch the online setup
his is a great printer for the money but the online setup is tricky make sure you type the web address correctly as there are sites that have the same address except for one full stop in the address and can full you into thinking you are on the right stie and you will be downloading all sorts of virus protection programs and PC driver updaters etc
Brother laser printe
It is an excellent printer:
* wakes up quickly;
*prints on the double side automatically;
* easy to use;
*from feeder can be scanned double side, quick and easy;
It’s an excellent printer. I would highly recommend it.
I dont know where from bad reviews come it is a great printe
I received it quickly and with a smiling courier, which is a bonus. Unpacked the box and started to assemble it. I needed only to plug in the power lead and install the cartridge. I did everything the first time and completed it on the first attempt. Then, I followed instructions from the provided printed documents and set up the printer program. It works with the MAC that I have. The only issue is that the printer and computer must be on the same Wi-Fi network. It can be either home mesh, as in my case, or just a normal home router network. I need clarification on whether someone says it is not a wifi printer – it is! My only hiccup was with signing up and logging in to the Brothers system after creating an account. Either I forgot a password or never set it up, but a quick password change solved it. I tried to add a provided discount on the Brother’s site, but somehow, I managed to miss that. I contacted Brothers support on Sunday, and they responded on Monday, a quick turnaround for customer support. I love the slogan Brother is on your side, and that’s how I feel so far! Recommended printer overall.
Been struggling with inkjets for ages.. whenever I go to use them… ink has dried or run out and costs the earth. Brother laser b/w printer is perfect so far. mega easy to install, works with loads of devices over wifi. print quality brilliant. Hope the laser cassette lasts the 1000 pages suggested? time will tell.. but for now I have a printer 2 sided, scanner, copier that does what I ask of it… everytime
Reliable...
Now I’ve had it for over two years I can comment on it’s reliability. I had a Brother printer for about 10 years and was upset when it died. I never expected much in this day and age of plastic rubbish to get near that and there’s a way to go but it has done extremely well so far. Like all these printers the ink is where the cost comes in but the Brother refills do give a very good amount of prints. I only print text so can’t comment on image printing.
Thrilled with this
I have had this printer for a month or two now and I am thrilled with it. It took a while to set up, and I think the instructions for linking it to your computer could be better, but it works really well now. I particularly like the wireless printing. Apparently printer ink is one of the most expensive things in the world, so a laser printer is the way to go. I’m surprised it has a fax mode – who uses a fax nowadays? But I just ignore that. It’s simple to use. For scanning, I like to use it with Windows Fax and Scan app, but there are other apps, if you prefer.
When is a wireless printer not a wireless printer?
When it’s made by Brother and deep sleep turns the wireless off after just a couple of minutes!
But you can turn it off.and make this printer work as it is meant to..wirelessly!
Go in to the Ecology menu, select sleep time.
Now press the back and down button together, you might need to do it more than once.
It will say Deep Sleep, press ok, press down to choose Off then press OK to save
Back out of all the menus.
If you search on YouTube for a video called “How to Turn Off Deep Sleep Mode on Brother Printer”, that’s how I found you could do this and it shows you there.
Nearly returned the printer because of this stupid choice by Brother.
Fast to first print, fast on multiple page prints, had duplex double sided printing included.
Very easy to setup, a fair few steps but I was subscribing to Wi-Fi and cloud services as well as setting up the toner subscription, so to be expected really.
Huge 250 sheet paper feeder means less paper fills and neatly stored under printer instead of sticking out the top like others. Much better!
The toner subscription worked out less than buying a toner on its own and includes the warranty, keep up the sub and your printer has a warranty, for as many years as you keep the subscription. Pretty good value.
Very happy
4.0 out of 5 stars So tempted to give this 5 stars...
…but I’ve not used it long enough…
Like the ink after some test print pages seem to be going DOWN too quick…
But setting this up compared to the BS that was setting up my returned Epson ET2810; it’s night and day.
After my horrid time wasting and horrid print quality experience with that Epson printer, I had braced myself for what was to come with this brother printer.
And so when it was done, setup in record time, as you’d expect from a nicely designed printer system…an amazing feeling of joy overflowed because I was very surprised how easy it was to set this one up and how it just worked without the convoluted BS that is the Epson printer or the Epson connect system is.
I don’t like the fluctuating prices for this though because seeing a lower price after you’ve bought this, is kind of annoying.
Still trying to understand the point of the subscription to ink services though, and what you get with the 6 months trial, like, can you really get free ink for six months if you printed using the highest subscription paid plan?
They’ll deliver all that to you for free?
Still looking for the catch…so 4/5 for now.
Excellent mono laser printe
Why just a simple mono printer? Well, I never print in colour, print mainly text based documents and spreadsheets so I don’t see the need for a colour printer. And for the limited number of scans that I do, my smartphone suffices (using the Adobe scan app) which produces excellent results just as quickly, perhaps quicker, than a flat bed scanner.
This laser printer produces top class mono prints very quickly and with no fuss. The quality of a laser print will always be a tad better than inkjet, in my view.
The only negative is that on initial set up, putting in the wifi password is long winded and tedious – but you only have to do it once.
As to set up generally, there are excellent videos on youtube which make the process easy and I would recommend following one of them rather than going through the instructions that come in the box (which make the process look harder than it actually is). Also, you can throw away the CD that comes in the box – who needs a CD in 2024?
It was supposed to be new, but wasn't!!!
Initially print quality was very poor. After speaking to the guys at Brother support (and they were very helpful) it was ascertained that the print cartridge supplied with the machine had already been used, and the internal setting of the machine had been changed to indicate it contained a brand new ink cartridge.
Anyway, once that problem had been sorted, and a new cartridge fitted , the print seems to improve. However it’s not brilliant, as black print not as black as when using my inkjet printer.
Also, on duplex printing it seems to pause for 3 seconds between each sheet – don’t know why.
The only advantage of this model is that it takes compatible ink cartridges.
I decided to go for a laser printer when my old inkjet printer stopped working for reasons beyond my understanding
Having done some research on the WHICH website, I decided that this was probably a good, cost-effective choice for my simple (and infrequent) printing needs. The printer was delivered promptly, and it was quite easy to set up using the instructions provided. I had worried that perhaps installing the laser cartridge might be tricky — I hate assembling things — but it slotted in easily and quickly.
The printing speed is good, as is the print quality, and I’m pleased with the purchase. I’ve rated it as a 4 rather than a 5-star only because I would have liked it to be a little less noisy — but that’s probably me being a bit fussy. Basically, I’m pleased with it!
Setup of the printer was very straightforward, though I wish manufacturers would write in English rather than try to say everything with diagrams. The only thing you have to do really is open the front and stick in the laser cartridge. I’m using USB rather than wireless so I can’t comment on the WIFI aspect. Windows 10 detected the printer without difficulty. The only snag which required change to the driver settings was to set to “duplex enabled”, in order to choose double-sided printing. You then normally choose long-sided and the printer does one page then sucks it back in to do the other. Paper output is on top, though still flat, no raised panel like some of the older printers had – but that means it’s not so easy to use the printer as a general purpose surface. I put a tea cloth on the top when not in use. It can take a ton of paper at any one time in the tray at the front. One annoyance is there does not seem to be a proper off switch. I don’t print every day, so I have to unplug the printer. There is what seems to be an offline/standby button but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Print output is just plain gorgeous, and fast, no fuzzy inkjet problems any more. Really in terms of price this is very good indeed, I just hope it has longevity.
I won’t bother with HP who like to astort people with subscriptions and rubbish hardware.
This printer is fantastic, you don’t need to fight with it, brother are a great company I’ve heard story’s of their printers lasting 20 years!
If 99% of what you need to print is text, get brother laser, you won’t regret it.
Don’t be tempted by the cheap 30 printers from the likes of HP. They are horrible I ended up smashing mine as I could not barwbthe fight.
Pay extra and you won’t have “No Brother”
Simply put I say print, brother prints, works fine on all devices, extremely easy to setup.
Ill only get brother printers and Louis rossman on YouTube speaks highly of them so you know they are a good company.
For brother deciding not to rip people of with subscriptions, I’ll only by brother acxeories or paper to support them.
Brother is one company that does not support you will own nothing and be happy.
I just wish my brother would do what he’s told
I’ve had this just a little under a month and it works great. Automatic 2 sided print is a great paper saver too. Prints quickly with not jams from the main feeder. Some issues with jams from the single sheet feeder but that could be because I am trying to feed in labels that are a little thicker than your usual 80gsm copier. It catches as if it will print then says there is a jam, though there isn’t one. I have to take out the full drum unit once or twice for it to reset.
The only reason for the drop to four stars is that, when received, you could clearly see that the box had been opened and re-taped and when I opened it the drum unit was already in, so I think this was a return. It works great so I am happy to keep but it was sold to me as new/unused and should have been a warehouse sale with a slight discount.
I took a lot of time doing research on printers and checked all the reviews on Amazon and found by far this had the better of you reviews for a laser printer the only reason why I’m giving it the 4stars. is because after using it, it wouldn’t recognise any other toner cartridges and I tried several toner cartridges, but it kept coming up as low ink so I don’t know if there’s a software error, I brought three or four lots of toner to go in this printer and all of them wouldnt work. 2. this is not automatic double-sided printing. but it is in a sense it’s automatic in the that it takes the page back inside and prints the reverse but it’s not automatic as in you have to set it up manually to make it automatic.
3. the interface there’s only a tiny little window, it is very hard to see the menu. it is not that clear when you’re actually setting it all up .
4. overall it is a fast laser printer and does print good quality and it’s good for the budget .
5. I think the way that they put the power socket bit at the back of the machine rather than on the side of the machine and that makes it quite awkward if you want to put on a Shelf or in a cabinet or something like that and I find that quite awkward because I want to put it on the shelf so it meant they kind of the front of it protrudes because of the the plug where the socket protrudes from the back I think it would have been better if they’ve had that little the plug socket at the side of the machine and your day been a lot better other than that.
6. I like the machine, very quiet printing very quick printing.
7 quite complicated to set up as well in the respect of trying to set the menu up on the printer. just get a disc you put in your PC .
8. don’t print from the from the actual brother options , print from your computer options, because from brother it doesn’t allow you to do double sided printing you have to go through your program like word or Excel whatever it is you’re doing to actually print double-sided printing.
I have owned two other laser printers prior to this. The first was given away because it only worked by connecting with a USB lead and it was inconvenient, and the second was returned because it had the flakiest wireless connection known to mankind. So I know what I’m looking for in a wireless laser printer.
After inserting the cartridge/drum unit (supplied), getting it working was relatively easy. It didnt require me to connect any leads to the laptop, and was all done using WiFi. Once the connection was established I found that I could print from any computer in the house as it appeared as if by magic in the printer list. I could also print from my phone, again with no effort. This was IMPOSSIBLE with the previous printer.
Another plus is that when printing two-sided documents I can use the cheapest paper we have (80gsm I think) whereas previously this would get chewed up on the second pass. Print quality is excellent.
The toner cartridge supplied only lasts (only? It’s still a lot) for 700 pages, and as my wife uses the printer quite a lot I got some third party toner at the same time. These go for about 15 each and last for 3000 pages. I put one in straight away, and it worked perfectly although i noticed that the first few pages were slightly lighter than normal. But it was no big deal.
The scan and copy function is fantastic. I havent had a scanner for years, and the ability to place a document on to the glass and copy it with the press of one button has already proved to be of benefit. We’re duplicating things right left and centre, just because we can and because it’s so cheap.
The 250 sheet paper tray works well, which once again is something I’m not used to. No misfeeds, no “incorrect tray in use” errors, nothing. And because there is a scanner on top, the paper instead comes out of a slot in the front and doesn’t spill all over the floor even if you forget to pull out the little paper rest.
All in all I couldn’t want for a better printer for the money.
When our Canon died recently I started doing a search of all the printers available. As it was just before Xmas I was hoping to pick up a bargain in the sales. I looked at Canons mainly but most reviews mentioned paper not being detected which was an issue we were always having. We’ve had Epson in the past and they just leak ink everywhere. I also looked at HP but didn’t want to pay for their inks.
I was then watching a YouTube video regarding a craft I am into and it mentioned using a laser printer, so I started looking at what they had to offer. I soon realised they were much more expensive and unless you want to pay out around 300, you will have to go with black and white, but reviews were better.
So that led me to a search of laser printers and to this printer in particular. I decided that we rarely printed anything that had to be in colour and at 99 it was just in the affordable range. (The price went up the following day)
The printer arrived a few days later in a huge box. Thankfully it was about a third packaging.
The quick set up guide is mainly pictures, and not particularly clear pictures. Fortunately, I was able to figure out what was needed and where to put the drum and toner. Someone with very little tech knowledge may need assistance. A teenage relative would probably do, don’t pay out for the proffessional installation.
After having read the reviews I decided to skip the CD option and went straight to wireless set up which was relatively easy once I worked out which buttons to press. I did a few test prints and all is working well.
Today I installed from the disc as this gives you extra features plus allows you to scan from your PC. Again fairly straightforward, and I didn’t need to download drivers even though I am using Windows 10.
The most confusing part was when it was searching for the printer. Rather than coming up with ‘Brother’ it actually had the Node Name of ‘nameiphone8’ – The name was my sister in-laws. It is an unusual name and she and my brother live 100 miles away from us, so no idea why that is. I have no idea what a Node Name is either!
But in all, I give it 4 stars as all seems to be working well and it does what I want it to. I just took off one star for the not so straight forward instructions.
