As a family we love all the ticket to ride games. They are great fun to play and every time they are played it’s a different outcome. Hours of fun in a box
Bought these as an expansion pack to the already owned Ticket to Ride game. This is a really good game for all ages and gives good knowledge of where cities are. Would recommend from around 10/12 to adult.
Bought this a few months ago after being introduced to Ticket to Ride (Europe). In general, TTR has to be the best board game there is. But this version blew us away. We’ve bought three other TTR versions since; this one, however, is still the firm favourite in my household. We originally got it just for the UK map, but both the UK and the Pennsylvania versions are so much fun! At first, the new mechanics seem daunting. After the first play-through of both though, we found them to be awesome editions. Honestly, if you love any of the base games of TTR & only ever get just one expansion — make it this one!
We love ticket to ride but beware that this is the “expansion” game. You must have the original game to have all the pieces to play. If you are a fan of the original two versions of the game (Europe / USA), then an expansion game adds different destinations and rules. Lots of fun.
Absolutely love the ticket to ride series, and really enjoy this map. My boyfriend isn’t the biggest fan as he finds it a bit too much trying to collect the terrain cards as well as the trains but I enjoy the added dynamic. Good quality board with vibrant colours.
We have six different versions and they are all fantastic. Each has a variation to the game play that makes them unique varied and fun in their own right. It isn’t just a case of different maps. They are very well thought out games.
We loved the original version of TTR, have been playing almost daily since we bought in in December. Decided to get the India version to help the kids expand their knowledge of the world and this game does that and much more in terms of adding to strategy! We happily spend upwards of an hour on it regularly – played between 6 – 44 year age group and all age groups have won a fair number of times! I would greatly recommend.
This is an excellent addition to the Ticket to Ride family of games – it adds new cards and new issues – so new challenges. After the original ticket to ride and Europe ticket to ride this is the next best and great because of the new map and new terrain cards which simulates the difficulty of building railways into the ‘heart of darkness’. Please note this is an expandsion pack and you must have the original Ticket to Ride to play – as you need the pieces and cards from the main game.
We got it to play with friends during holidays. It was great but I didn’t realize that this version is an expansion game, so it is required to have the main game before buying this one. This way you will have the cards and stuff to use. So, I needed to order the Europe one to be able to play. Be aware of that!
This is an extension pack for the original Ticket to Ride game. I think each version of the game has slight differences apart from the new maps which keep it interesting. This is such a great game, we’ve played with loads of different people (some of whom were not keen to play a board game, but were soon hooked) everyone has really loved this game.
First off make sure you have the main game as this does not come with the train pieces required to play, it only comes with the board and cards (for this game).
This one is a little more complicated than the standard game, it requires you to buy cards in order to access certain areas of the board, this does tend to extend the game and adds another level of complexity to play.
Great expansion for existing ticket to ride game owners. A few new additions adding complexity to the game which work well, you need to have played and have good understanding of the gameplay I would say to enjoy this fully.
I would say each game runs a few hours, so you need time to play. A great family favourite in our house, and good value rather than buying a whole new set. Strongly recommend.
I already read some reviews which were confirmed by the purchase.
India is kind of boring and it’s almost impossible to have as many mandalas to reach the end goal. We even bent some rules but it was still a dull game.
On the other hand, Switzerland is perfect for 2-3 players when you don’t have enough people for the original Ticket To Ride. It’s very fun, fast and swarming with tunnels. Some game mechanics are changed due to the map design and Alan R. Moon did a terrific job making this board. It’s worth a purchase only because of this map.
Two new games are provided by this expansion, India and Switzerland. The double-sided map board opens to the same size as the original “Ticket to Ride Europe” and there are two sets of new “ticket” cards. (For those not used to the concept of an “expansion, you use the playing pieces from your original game, and you cannot play either of these new games without owning the original). India adds a new concept, namely a “Mandala” or circular route between the 2 places on your ticket. Switzerland introduces the idea of city to country (or even country to country) which gives flexibility in gaining routes. There are also minor variations to the “tunnel” rules and locomotive cards. Rules are close enough to the original game to be easy to pick up, but different enough to add interesting variety.
My own fault for not reading carefully enough but didn’t realise this was an expansion pack and not a stand alone game. Had to subsequently buy the European version. Introduces new challenges and objectives to the standard game that add a new challenge.
As a big enthusiast for the standard game (Europe), but wanting something different, we bought this expansion pack and haven’t been disappointed.
All it uses from the main game is the plastic pieces to go on the board and the counters – everything else is new. We’ve only played the UK board so far, but it really stretches the game. You throw away the idea of a longest route, but gain all the different technologies, needed, for example, to put down a route longer than 2, or to get out of England into one of the other countries. The result has been for us more thoughtful and strategic play, and games that are a lot closer in outcome (so rarely sure until the route tickets have been added up).
It looks a little overwhelming when you first get out all the tech cards, but given a couple of games we were really enjoying it. If you not played the basic game before, I’d get the hang of that first before adding this one. Having done that, expect to become addicted!
I’m a big ticket to ride fan and I’ve got a lot of the board including all the map packs.
The Nederlands’ bridge mechanic is a nice addition to the game which works well and I really like the ‘AI’ player idea for use when playing with only 2 plays.
Presentation and quality of the game is excellent, I’d expect nothing less from Days of Wonder!!
Such a good twist on the European version, and two board games for the price of one! Both sides of the board are different maps and have different rules so you can mix it up a bit. Beware though, you will need other TTR games as you require the playing pieces from another set. Your usual strategies won’t work so you need to figure out new ones, which is a lot of fun and evens out the advantage of well practiced TTR fanatics over newbies (which is our usual problem)!
This is an excellent expansion from a great company. You’ll need a copy of Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride Europe in order to play it though (these games provide the necessary plastic trains). I was worried by the addition of “technology cards” but these really change the game for the better and I now really like them.
We have the US and Europe Ticket To Ride games and the Switzerland/India expansion. We’ve played all of them extensively. Fortunately you can order a new set of coloured locomotive cards (and destination cards) directly from the Days of Wonder website, when your cards wear out!
A very enjoyable expansion for the Ticket to Ride Base game introducing the new terrain card mechanism. This creates a nice interaction between players and means that you need to time the laying of routes in a more strategic fashion. After several playthroughs I enjoy this but it has only 4 stars simply because I prefer the India and legendary Asia expansions – this is personal preference and it certainly makes a nice change from Europe so I do recommend if you are a fan of the game.
I love Ticket to Ride Europe so thought a new board and some new routes would shake things up a bit. I normally play with my husband and mother-in-law but there is a lot more to this one which they found a bit difficult – using additional terrain cards to boost scores. It adds a good dimension for serious players who want to play tactically. We just resort to the normal game play and forget the terrains for a ‘social’ game. The board and card illustrations are first class as always and it’s an interesting map to play.
A nice one with an additional rule for extra points when you connect two destinations in two entirely different ways.
Comes with switzerland as a bonus, which is a map full of tunnels. If you liked Ticket to Ride and would like some variation from the standard game, then this expansion map is for you.
Needs Ticket to Ride to play since it is only composed of two new maps and new destination tickets.
