As a long standing fan of Rotring products, I adore this pen. It’s slim but not too slim and it feels right in the hand and it delivers a highly technical experience with the milled grip. And it looks very professional too. Highly recommended.

I have many Rotring pens and mechanical pencils. All are 600 model pen and this is my first Rapid Pro pen. All seems similar, great writing experiences, weight and balance very similarly great.

The only difference, apart from appearance and rounder /less angular body, is that button click is not as smooth as the 600 model pen. Both are already good, but all 600 pens are so smooth and satisfying that can serve like fidget.

As the price of pens fluctuates online, and for different colours, when 600 model is cheaper than Rapid Pro, I’d definitely get 600 again. Guess I’d still get 600 even if it’s slightly pricier than Rapid Pro. But they’re both great anyway and won’t feel letdown if you’re not owning both pens.

Kept losing my pens, so I bought a nice one. 3 years of daily carry for work, kept in pocket with multi-tool, lots of scratches (but i like the look), replacing as the cap for the click has vanished.

Having never tried a rotring pen before I did what a lot of people do when looking for reviews – went onto YouTube.
    Rapid Pro, 600 or 800?
For something I would be using everyday on the move I felt the first two suited my everyday needs more.
As the Rapid Pro has more of a rounded hexagonal profile I went for that one. Been using it now for nearly 2 months now and love it.
I have a collection of Cross pens and had been using these at work but found them a bit too slippy when out and about – great if you are office based.
The Rapid Pro is built to last and can take a bit of neglect. The clip is excellent to secure it in a note book, pocket, car visor etc. The knurling grip is just right and the more rounded profile sits nicely in the hand.
Really impressed with it and it’s now my go to pen.
Felt the need to expand my Rotring collection and now have the Rapid Pro pen in black, silver and the 2mm pencil. Feel the need to get more colourful now
If you’re after a robust, no nonsense, good writing pen then look no further.

My use is one of jotting down notes and quick diagrams. Weight wise it has a quality feel to it. compared to a Parker jotter this feels more sturdy but then again the cost is a lot higher. The grip is slightly abrasive and takes some getting use to. The mechanism is smooth and light. In comparison the Parker jotter is tight and a very positive action. The pen is smooth to write however because of the long profile and grip it favours someone with a closer grip to the nib and one that holds the pen more upright. A relaxed grip grip that means the pen is more perpendicular to the page results in a scratchy feel when writing. The pen is very slender and as such can be held while manipulating a mouse or using a keyboard with ease. My desk is littered with pens and I tend to grab what’s at hand but with this I have used it along with its pencil counterpart. So from that perspective I think it’s been a good buy . If the pen body came in more colours I could see myself buying a few and having different inks in each one. One note the black body looks nice and feels nice but the abrasive grip holds onto dirt and quickly looks grimy. Go for the silver one.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe ballpoint pen is very comfortable to use and the knurled barrel stops the pen slipping. The refill is very easy to replace and are widely available. Up to the usual standard you come to expect from this German manufacturer.

I got an exchange for the black version and ordered the silver one. I would say that the silver version is 5 STARS. The coating on the silver pen is far superior over the black version, I have been using it a lot more than I would with the black one, with no sign of any wear or scratches on it.

I feel that the clicking action on the silver pen is much smoother than the black. My experience with the black one wasn’t that great, with it feeling a bit sticky with too much friction and occasionally it would get stuck when trying to use the pen and I would have to rotate it a few times before it would click down.

    **Black Version Review**

Lovely pen to write and sketch with. I had been looking around for a nice durable pen to use that would be easy to refill and kept coming back to it. I would recommend if you buy the pen, to switch out the refill inside for a Parker refill, it worked much better for me than the rotring one inside, which came with blue ink.

The clicking mechanism came quite tight as well, and would occasionally get stuck, I just spent a while constantly clicking it open and closed, which has loosened the mechanism.

My biggest issue with the pen is that the black coating is coming off. I wish I had orded it in the silver, but I wanted to be able at a glance to switch between my silver rotring mechanical pencil and the black pen. I ordered the pen on the 6th of Feb and at the time of writing this review is the 26th. I don’t use the pen that often, and I mean only once every couple of days, and there’s noticeable wear of the coating.

If you do choose to get this pen, i would recommend going for the silver option instead, I know I would now if I could.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pen, but get the silver option!!!!

This has been my go-to daily driver pen for quite some time. It’s one of those pens that you can’t misplace or forget about. I’ve gotten around five years out of my previous rOtring Rapid Pro which had to be replaced after the spring mechanism had worn out.

Perfectly weighted, and built with high quality materials. The knerling has shown some wear over time, but it only adds to the pens’ character. Would definitely recommend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersRotring always presents quality products, this one is not an exception. It’s a robust, heavy pen. The grip is just right for my hand. It’s quite similar with the mechanical pencil that I have.

    Recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is just lovely. I thought I’d ordered a black ink one, but a blue one arrived and it’s lovely anyway. Has a great weight to it, and the build and finish quality is impeccable. The blue seems a slightly darker shade than I’m used to as well, which just makes it even more tremendous. It feels like it will last forever.
Just a quick minor point; it would make a fabulous gift for someone you really liked, but do be aware the packaging is pretty minimal – mine arrived squeezed into a Toblerone type triangular box about the same size as the pen itself, which was pretty uninspiring. So while not big on presentation, the pen itself is magnificent. I may give up email and hand write everything now.

Now I have Rotring 800+ pencil, Retro51 Hexomatic pen, Redcircle pencil (Chinese clone of Rotring 600) and in most cases i will choose Rapid Pro for writing (if I cannot use my Levenger L-Tech fountain pen). Reasons:
    – great weight,
    – not as flimsy as Hexomatic (which could really be a great pen, if only they done their job a bit better),
    – very pleasant finishing,
    – finer and more aggressive knurling, which I like.

    cons (minor):
    – plastic part that connects 2 parts of the body.
    – press button on a black version will catch if pressed with an angle (silver version is OK as it is polished),
    – clip is a bit too strong.
    – it is not a 800+ 🙂

Real minus for me – facets are rounded and are smaller that grip and clip section. So the ball will roll on the table (800+ and Hexomatic will not). So – just be aware of this.
