WAHL
Our History
The foundations for Wahl began when Leo J. Wahl invented the first vibrating electromagnetic motor in Sterling, Illinois. This led to the creation of the first vibrating medical massager, which was sold to barbershops, where Leo recognised the need to develop and improve barber tools.
Since Leo J. Wahl filed his patent for the first electric hair clipper in 1919, Wahl have remained at the forefront of the industry, with over 98% of Barbers now using Wahl.

Mains power is what you need but this is quite heavy to handle.
The main advantage of these clippers is that they are very quiet to use. Your hair is next to your ears, and other brands that are battery powered are noisy as hell and make you slightly deaf and induce anxiety, in contrast these have a relaxing hum. Your arms get a workout while you’re using these (if you’re cutting
your own hair). Obvously buy a bigger comb separately if you want longer hair and as with many that can cut long, the hair needs to be pushed into the blades. You might need two mirrors and a hair cape which doesn’t come with this.
Sick of cordless - went old skool
Had loads of cordless ones, which are typically flat when i need them or go flat half way through trimming.
Kept it simple with a corded one which is fast and easy. Great se
Quality Kit but heavy
hese seem very good quality compared to the ones I’ve had before so that’s a plus. come with many different trim levels good again. only down side is the weight of the unit compared to the one I had before.
having said all that I am pleased with the ki
Good
We had an old Wahl from 30 years ago that my wife swapped for a modern battery one. After a while the charger cable came apart. I’m very happy to have a new model of this old classic which just does the job.
Sharp and comes with everything you need
Been using it for nearly a dozen of times now. Easy to use, blades are sharp and easy to clean.
Comes with everything you need really, would be better if comes with a 5mm rather than 6mm, as it shows quite a difference when using the 3mm after you shave with the 6mm one, so it takes a bit more care to making the hair looks smooth.
Its also quite heavy, i guess this is because most parts are metal rather than others are plastic.
Cheap plastic heads
The plastic guards are actually really cheap compared to my old clipper and the teeth came crooked so had to reposition them before using it. Still works and does the job though.
Machine doesn't last very long!!!
Guys I only purchased this machine in December 2021, I’ve only used it 4 times and now in May 2022 the side leaver that you can change up an down for changing clipper sizes e.g. 1 to 1 and a half has already gone faulty, it automatically drops when I leave it up. The clipper itself stops randomly whilst plugged in to the socket whilst cutting. Honestly don’t waste your money like I did, Wahl really going down hill and im very upset I made a loss without much usage.
Great hair clippers
I bought these clippers to replace my old ones which came back damaged after being loaned out. I wasn’t too bothered as they had payed for themselves many times over. The clippers lasted for 5 or 6 years and did a great job of sorting out my balding pate and beard, would be OK for a mankini line too 😉 . They have a nice long lead, aren’t too heavy and are easy to use. For the price they are an absolute bargain. Hope the replacement clippers last as long. They are the same model so hopefully they will.
Well, what can I say, 4 haircuts in and they’re knackered so no they didn’t last very long at all, very disappointing
It was the cutting blade that had stopped oscillating that was the problem. I took the blades off and trued them up then optimised the motor, do this by turning the cutters on and turn the plastic screw on the side of the cutters clockwise till the cutters make a harsh loud noise. Then turn the screw anti-clockwise half a turn. Back in perfect working order. It was just badly set up from the factory in the first place
Easy to use
Am a woman who likes short but feminine hair. Used this with a separately bought number 12 attachment (also on Amazon) to remove a year of lockdown hair.
Am very pleased with the result – so much so, will use this instead of visiting hairdresser.
It was easy to use, but you need to be patient to be sure you have covered and cut all your hair to the desired length.
I asked help with making sure the back was ok, and cut over the ears with hairdressing scissors.
Not sure how easy it would be to get faded effects without help from another person.
In honesty, would not claim to have produced professional standard results, but think it would not be difficult to do so with help.
Good produc
Have now used these for a third self-administered lockdown haircut. The clippers feel solid and well made, the attachment combs are perhaps a bit more flimsy. However, for home use I think they are fine if you take care. I did adjust the blade alignment after checking them before use, but this was easy enough by following the instructions. Overall, I very glad I invested in these and recommend them. Getting someone to help with the more fiddly bits of the cut, such as edges and round ears is advisable. Good product.
Wahl - The ones the barber uses!
Great gadget, which does my hair and beard a treat.
The only reason I did not give this a five star status, was that at one point the clippers TUGGED at my hair.
I didn’t expect the gadget to be oiled DURING the first use, but this was the case.
The best thing to do therefore, is to oil AFTER EVERY USE. That way you have a remarkable trimmer, which COULD last you a lifetime!
Great quality clipper, well suited to cutting your own hai
Great clipper, good value and great quality.
Slightly heavy, but no tugs or nips when cutting, and, more importantly, very smooth and consistent. The only complaint from my young son was that it tickled (and one slight notch in the back of his head when he jerked away from the tickle – nothing an ice-pop didn’t sort!). But no comparison to cheap clippers I’ve used in the past.
Stand-out feature are the two over-ear combs – the left- and right-sloped combs make finishing around your ears easy and clean if cutting your own hair during quarantine – no mean feat!
The selection of accessories is extensive – in addition to the clip-on combs, there is the essential oil, two regular combs, a cape & three clips and a scissors.
One (very insignificant) quibble is the finish – the device is well-built and solid, but the chrome finish is poor and slightly flaky – I feel it will be gone in a few months, but will look shabby in the interim.
Anywhere But Saudi Arabia
A true story of the remarkable achievements of a spirited young Canadian wife and mother, who in 1976 with her small baby and great trepidation, travels to join her construction engineer husband in the closed Islaamic community of Riyadh,Saudi Arabia. As the previously backward city advances with astonishing speed, so does Kathy’s groundbreaking career there, and with it a love for her new homeland and its people. Her openness and vivid writing allow the reader to share not only the strange, amusing and sometimes dangerous situations resulting from her exploits but also in the day to day problems experienced by a Western family starting a new life in a seemingly hostile environment. Kathy is truly a free spirit.
Can’t quite put my finger on why, but these clippers were purchased to replace a set of Nicky Clarke clippers I’d been using since the late 90’s and they’re just not the same. The older set were just better.
On paper, these new Wahl clippers are far superior, but they just don’t seem to give a consistent close cut either without an attachment or with the No.1 attachment for example (I haven’t tried any other attachment). They’re a nice weight and shape to control to trim your own facial hair or head and I keep the blades well lubed and balanced, but they just simply do not cut as well. I frequently have to go over the same area multiple times which without an attachment can cause a bit of irritation, and/or use a second set of trimmers on the back of a shaver to tackle bits these clippers miss every time. They seem to be very good quality but they’re just not as good as my older Nicky Clarke’s. I just needed a reliable set of clippers to buzz cut my own head every few weeks and I also use them to shave with without an attachment fitted and these clippers just aren’t making the cut (pun intended). Once upon a time if I wasn’t cleanly shaved before reporting for duty I would have been disciplined, these days I prefer a close trim/shave but not absolutely clean shaven as with a razor or shaver. It’s not me struggling to adjust to the new from the old either as I’ve now had these Wahl clippers a few months and wanted to really use them properly before I reviewed them so I could comment on any pros and cons honestly. Don’t get me wrong, they’ll quickly and easily remove long hair/whiskers from head or face, it’s just the finish and close consistency that repeatedly lets them down unfortunately.
I still have the Nicky Clarke’s and at this rate I may look into getting the blades sharpened on the original set and maybe give these away as I just can’t get on with them for consistency with a really close cut. I thought a pair of clippers were a pair of clippers lol, obviously not.
Otherwise, they came well packaged in decent retail packaging and not that I’ll ever use most of the accompanying accessories, but they came with a utility vest, various attachments for length of cut, hair clips, cape, left, right and standard combs, a flat top comb and 3 or 4 different brushes/dusters. It also stated they were supplied with a hard case and a DVD, but despite mine definitely being the “Pro” set, mine just have a soft polyester roll that everything tucks into, not a case. Can’t say I was gutted at not receiving the DVD either :o).. My Nicky Clarke set had a hard case, so I simply swapped some pieces around and keep the new one in the original hard case and kept the rest as a backup.
Can’t rate at 5 stars as they’re just not that good, although happy to rate at 4 stars for the price, all the included extras and that they cut the worst off. Would recommend in general, but also add that you may want or need a separate smaller set of clippers to pick up the close in bits these seem to miss.
Quality American product – you know what you are getting with a Wahl. It will never give you the closest cut, and you’ll have to oil it regularly to prevent it from snatching but you know that it will last you forever, that you’ll get an even cut, that the thinner combs wont buckle and fall off. You can feel it when you use it, it’s heavier than its Remington counterparts – but am so glad to have one again. The last one I had was great and only broke because I dropped it and it fell awkwardly. Since then I tried various makes, all tinny with the above issues, or wires that just fall out whilst cutting… no. I will Always go back to a Wahl and stay with it.
Professional pair.
Having previously only owned cheap clippers I decided to go up in price and buy something slightly better. Heard good things from Wahl so gave these a go.
If you’re going from a cheap pair you’ll instantly see/feel the difference, they feel like a professional pair.
You get plenty of different size attachments, even curved ones for the ears, along with scissors as well a little brush. All comes in a hard case to store everything
3 years on and im having slight issues with the cutters – having to use a screwdriver to tighten and sometimes loosen the cutting range — but its not a massive issue to be hones
My partner wanted some hair clippers, as he wanted to start trimming his own hair then having to keep going the barbers every week or so. So I decided to buy him these, as they were very well priced and had plenty of positive reviews. These Wahl Hair Clippers arrived very quickly, and were very well packaged upon delivery. You get a hell of a lot of accessories included with this set, including the clippers themselves, 1 blade guard, 8 attachment combs, 1 left ear comb, 1 right ear comb, 1 barber comb, 1 pocket comb, 1 flat top comb, 1 pair of scissors, 1 cable tidy, a neck duster, a barber cape, a cleaning brush, clipper oil, a how to DVD, and a case to put all the accessories in. The clippers themselves feel very well made and sturdy so hopefully they will last my partner for quite some time. They are really comfortable to hold, and really easy to use. The clippers glide effortlessly through my partner hair, and it only takes 10 minutes to fully trim his hair to the length he wants. They do get a little hot using them for a while, but nothing that would burn your hand or anything. Once I’ve finished trimming my partners hair, there is a little brush to brush the hair away from his neck and a brush for cleaning in-between the blades on the clipper. Overall my partner is really happy with these hair clippers, so we could happily recommend them to anyone.
I bought this clipper set a few months ago really just to give myself a little trim from time to time to save going to the barbers so much. In terms of quality, I can’t say anything bad about this. The clipper set is sturdily built, heavy but not too heavy and there is an extensive range of lengths. The only downside really for me is that it is quite a noisy set. After watching the dvd that came with it (exciting…) and set it up as described, it still seems to be a bit on the noisy side. But it does the job so I can’t complain. Never had any problem with hair snagging or pulling and so far only needed to oil it when I first used it. All in all, if you’re not too concerned about it being a little loud and having a wire, I’d say it’s a good buy. Especially for the price.
Update: still going strong in 2020!

Can’t comment on longevity just yet — only had for a few months now. So far works perfectly. The attachments are more useful than I expected, (combs and hair clips) and are also of good quality. It feels heavy in the hand, like it should, and the metal construction makes me feel confident in it’s quality. As for its operation, it is seamless, regardless of hair building up behind the blades. If you don’t know what you’re doing, I don’t recommend unscrewing the metal plate, (I tried to clean it inside and found it harder than expected to put back perfectly – not too hard but it was unnecessary). This has already paid for itself, and will save me a lot of money in the long run. If you have a simple hairstyle, its worth trying to do it yourself. Each time I cut my own hair its slightly easier than before. The oil included lasts longer than I expected too, I bought a huge bottle and it will take years and years to get through, so wait to buy more oil!
A GOOD SOLID STURDY HAIR CLIPPER.
i have had these clippers for 12 weeks, and today they have been used for the first time. according to the operator, my wife, they felt funny to use to begin with, with a slight vibration, and they are heavier than our previous clippers (phillips, which we have had for 14 years). she soon got used to them, and found it easy to cut round the ears with the special tools supplied. for me, all i could feel was the cutters gliding over my head as the hair was falling off(being cut) leaving a nice tidy hair cut….NOTE. there is a saying, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. LOOK at your dvd first. make sure you look at the maintainance section. and check your clippers. the teeth (cutters) on mine where out of alignment and they probably would’nt have cut so smooth. it is only a small adjustmend, although it did take longer to get it exactly right than i thought. don’t undo the screws to much, as they might fall out.. 1 of mine did. do it over a flat surface, so the screw has something to fall on.
Great set of clippers for the price. I was quite fed up of paying at least 10 for a simple short back and sides so I thought I’d take a crack at it myself. Couldn’t be happier with the results.
The clippers themselves are very sturdy and powerful. They easily cut through fairly long hair at grade 1. They’re fairly easy to use to. Just pop on the guard length you want to use, click the switch on the side on you’re away.
It comes with various bits and bobs like scissors, combs and a brush. All seem to be of a decent quality but you may want to invest in better quality versions in the long run. It also includes a small bottle of oil with instructions on how to use it (it’s very easy).
All in all I’m very happy with my purchase. It’s certainly going to save me a lot of cash in the long run. Even better – no more awkward conversations with a barber!
One of the best investments I’ve ever made. Bought it two weeks short of a year ago, have only been for one haircut at a barber’s in all that time, so it has already saved me over 150 as well as spared me 12 sessions of sitting in a barber’s chair having to have awkward forced conversations about whether I was going anywhere on holiday this year (I’m wasn’t) and had I been following the football (I hadn’t).
It is a bit hard to cut the hair on the back of your own head by yourself, but you do get to learn how to do it after a couple of tries and after a bit of teasing from your friends that you look like a German footballer from the 1980s. Two well placed and adjustable angle mirrors are essential for a good DIY job. Once I got the hang of it no one has noticed that I’m cutting my own hair.
It is solidly constructed, comes with the full range of combs from #1-8 as well as tapering combs for the ears (two sets of these, for some reason) but I haven’t really worked out how I am supposed to use these two. It did only have one of the two advertised regular combs, however, and the handle of the scissors snapped fairly quickly, but the clippers themselves are very sturdy, are high powered, and they come in a very solid thick plastic case that could probably survive an IED.
First pair of wahls - total novice
I had a lesser named brand pair of clippers for cutting my boys hair. They died after only a few months. I decided on the wahl brand after reading a lot of reviews and these seemed to have a lot of good reviews and were cheap.
These arrived today so as soon as the boys returned from school I set about trying these out.
Firstly they feel like quality, they have a weight to them which is pleasing. I opted for the 5/8″. They run quite quiet and do not snag in the hair as i found with other brand. I have not watched the dvd yet and am a complete novice so do not know much about the art of clipping! That said I managed to give both boys a pretty good crop, yes there are a few stray longer hairs but that i believe is down to my complete lack of skill!
Overall really pleased, you do get a lot of extras with these which im pretty sure i wont end up using but they are there and i have two boys as guinea pigs! (I’m joking, they’d never forgive me)
Good but cutting lengths seem strange
A couple of months ago I resigned myself to the fact that I was going thin on top and decided to keep my hair short. I took the plunge and bought myself a Philips QC5530. I’ve been happy with it overall but I found it a bit awkward to do the back of my head, even with the rotating head on the clippers. It was to do with the design of the comb attachment, it just didn’t seem to fit my head too well.
So I thought I’d try these Wahl clippers. The main impression I’ve had so far is that the cutting lengths seem strange on the comb attachments. I’ve only used the clippers the once so far; I cut my hair first with the Philips on a 9mm setting and then tried to go over it with a no. 2 on the Wahl. No. 2 is supposed to be 6mm but it didn’t take any more off – in fact not even close (in case you’re thinking, I am aware of the adjustment lever on the side and did have it set at the shortest). So a Philips 9mm is shorter than a Wahl 6mm? Seems odd. It looks a big leap from the no. 2 comb down to the no. 1 so I didn’t go there.
I did use the no. 1 on the back & sides though and found it to be a nice fine cut. The clippers feel OK in the hand, quite a bit heavier than the Philips but I soon got used to it. So the only thing really is the length thing. I see you can get a no. 1.5 attachment so I might try that to bridge the gap between no. 1 and no. 2.
The clippers come in a black plastic carry case which is handy, together with all the attachments, some hair clips, some combs, a cape and a brush. Most of those are no use to me (hair clips – seriously?) so will never see the light of day but it’s good of Wahl to include them.
It took a big leap of faith for me to start cutting my own hair, but I’m getting away with it so far and if I can do it anyone can.
I bought this to cut my three year old’s hair. I believe a boy’s hair should be quite short and it was costing me 5.50 each time I took my lad to the hairdresser. Also because he was fidgeting around and getting bored, the cut was not the best.
So I thought I would try this- a little apprehensive I admit, but I am glad I did.
As others have reported, it comes with a wealth of accessories- the ‘combs’ you attach to the blade for the grade of cut, a pointless DVD, an actual comb and some pretty good hairdressing scissors. There is also a plastic cape.
Cutting the hair is actually very easy and it makes a very neat and smart job.
It is basically as simple as putting on the desired comb length by clicking it over the blade (I find number 4 gives a smart short haircut without it being too short) and then switching on and running it all over the hair. You cannot go wrong and cut more out than intended. The comb prevents this. All you have to do is make sure you run it over against the hair growth direction until all the hair is cut down to the preset length. If you miss a bit, just go over it again.
Trust me I am no Vidal Sasoon, but everyone says it looks smart when I have finished. Any idiot could do it- no skill required whatsoever.
As well as the standard comb attachments, there are some graduated ones for cutting in above the ears, but I once tried using one of them and I could tell it was going to go wrong so quickly stopped. I find with a grade 4, all that is required is a little trim above the ears and the back of the neck with the scissors to cut off any longer strands and straighten up.
When you finish use the little brush to brush the hair off the clipper and a few drops of oil (both also included)to ensure is is A Okay to go the next time you get it out.
So, in summary if it sounds like you or your loved ones would like a grade 5 downward cut, want to save money (paid for itself in 3 cuts), can’t be bothered going to the hairdressers and want to save time, get one of these.
I can also attest that you can do the same job on yourself, no problems- all you need is a facing mirror and a handheld mirror to make sure you have not missed any bits at the back.
The clippers seem well made, and are quite heavy and substantial. It has not pulled the hair when I have been cutting and I did not have to adjust the blades.
ITS ALL GOOD!!!
What can you say about wahl appart from being reliable and very good on price aswell!
This kit is ideal for most folk to have in cupboard it comes in a decent box and has the essentials!
The clipper works brilliantly “dont forget to clean and oil after every use and it will work forever” it has all the blade lengths and a few combs and scissors ok the accesseries are not hairdresser standard but the wahl is brilliant!
No doubt you can up the quality and price of them as they go to around 60 for the rolls royce of them but i would say a proper hairdresser would go for them i stick to the lower midrange on these as they are just as good but you dont cry if you drop them in the sink or one of the inlaws breaks them and doesnt tell you because they dont want to coff up for new set!!!! but as i have said before keep them clean and a little touch of oil and they will be as faithful as little lap dog!!!
hope this helps
If,like me,you are too cheap to pay a barber for a decent haircut and too lazy to go to the barber’s anyway, this is the product for you.
In theory you can cut your own hair with them, but I wouldn’t advise it as the results can be a bit hit or miss. Much better to sucker your long suffering partner into cutting your hair, that way you can blame her when things go wrong. In truth there is not much to it, you simply decide how long/short you want your hair to be, attach the appropriate comb and run it over your head.
Does it do the job? Yes. Does it do it as well as a fully trained professional barber? No. I guess you get what you pay for in the way of results. I’m quite happy with the job it does on my hair, but then I’m used to looking ridiculous.
