Does what they are made fo
OK so no this is not a good Thai noodle, or a Chinese noodle. But, what they are, after a bit of a rinse under a cold tap, are a good replacement. They need flavour added so I use them with a Thai red or green curry sauce, or a Miso soup, stir fried chicken and a good quality soya, they really are what you make of them. At the end of the day, you get more from these than they are, because they are filling but low calorie.
Easy cook
Good diet food if your on a low carb diet, I prefer this to having spaghetti as it’s thinner with less crunch, I have also used it in stir fries as it’s easy to use and all you are doing is heating it, takes 5 mins. Wash first though as it has an odou
Love these
If you’re on a carb free cut or diet these are amazing. You can make lush dinners and never feel like you’re missing out. I swear by them and couldn’t go back to normal pasta/noodles.
Rinse well and simmer for a good 5 mins.
This is an ok rice substitute. It is best when combined with the curry etc. Tendency to be watery even after draining but 0 carbs makes it good enough for me.
Grea
I am celiac and have diabetes and these are great x do not be put off but the smell just put in a pot and rinse with boiling water x I suggest you cut up then add to your flavoured food
I’d heard of these noodles before and decided to try them. So glad that I did. They are a great healthy alternative to noodles/pasta and very easy & convenient to cook. Love the versatility with adding them to sauces or just plain with baked salmon etc.
They do smell fishy when opened but 2 or 3 rinses in a sieve gets rid of it and you can’t smell or taste it when cooked.
Chewier than normal noodles with zero taste but they can add bulk to a meal for zero calories & carbs. So if you are dieting or low carb then they are useful
It is very chewy so you have to chew much more than regular noodles. But overall given the amount of calories – I think its worth it.
The only negative would for me would be the price. One packet comes out nearly 2 pounds and that’s double the price I would like to pay.
The noodles are what I’ve had before.
If you’re new to them, they are a bit squidgy compared to normal egg noodles, but once they’re mixed with stir fry veg etc I can’t tell the difference. There isn’t a particular taste to them, but there is a bot of a smell when you first open the packet. The easiest way of getting rid of the smell is either to wash the noddles under a running tap or put cold water into a bowl and drop the noodles in, I find the bowl method separates the noodles better. Once the noodles have been in a minute or so strain through a sieve to drain off the water.
I empty the contents and run into under the tap on close to full blast until I have high hopes that the pungent smell of the packaged product has gone. If you haven’t used this product before, I would advise you to hold your nose or prepare yourself for a very fishy smell.
Once the rinsing is over I put it on the stove for four minutes and then season it or stir fry it with other flavoursome ingredients. It’s great way to reduce your calories and carb intake without sacrificing putting food to your mouth.
I LOOOOVE these , I live a ketogenic lifestyle, and I love my pasta haha , and to me , there really isn’t much difference , beacuse in reality we don’t taste the weak taste of pasta when we have bolanaise ect , so they don’t have a taste , and the texture to me again is not massively different , definately not enough for me to miss pasta , but people tend to throw it away when they open it as it stinks of fish , it does for sure , but as soon as you wash it under cold water as it says , that completly goes , so it’s really no issue and they actually have a solid white colour they are not jellyfish clear like others , and that puts me off as it feels like jelly if it’s clear haha , but this isn’t like that , so any keto fans this is great , the rice noooo don’t get it lol , the others are ok , but this is the perfect one
Good produc
Noodles are easy to use and do make you feel full.
They have to be thoroughly washed to ensure all the storage liquid is gone (it has an unpleasant smell) and I noticed that heating for 1min in the microwave is enough (not the recommended 3min – getting far too hot otherwise). They also easy to use for stir fry, just add them ~5 before serving.
I think these noodles are ok. Yes they have a fishy smell, but I rinse them and then add seasoning ie curry or chili powder or stock cube and they taste fine. Texture is a bit rubbery , I tend to chop them up a bit so they are easier to swallow. Good knowing they are so low in calories/carbs
Surprisingly good. I simmer these in a tasty miso broth. They make a satisfying meal. I tried three different brands of ready mix miso broth before I found the right one. I did notice it has a higher sodium content than the less flavoursome brands, which is probably not a coincidence. The ready miso broth I recommend is from a high street sushi chain, but sold in supermarkets. I tried the ‘penne’ from this brand expecting it to be more-ish like udon noodles. The ‘penne’ is truly awful.
These are great in a stir fry I loved them I’m on a low carb diet so they are ideal the only thing stopping the five star rate is the price ! I can’t see why there so expensive the packet isn’t really enough for 2 so can work out expensive if your on a budget that said if you don’t want the calories and the carbs these are brillia
I’ve used Shirataki noodles before and so consequently I had a reasonable expectations of what to expect. I think these are actually a bit better than the ones ive had before.
For anyone who has not used these Konjac (Moyu) based products here are some things you ought to be aware:
1) They come in some watery substance that frankly doesnt smell very nice, almost fishy. Don’t worry about it as the noodles wont taste weird.
2) They also don’t look great and are a bit slimy until cooked
3) The noodles really dont taste of anything. The problem though is they also don’t absorb flavours very well.
This isn’t this manufacturers fault, its endemic of Shirataki noodles.
For reference, the result that works best for me is to first microwave them for 2-3 minutes. At this point they no longer translucent and texture improves. I then stir fry them with onion, garlic, ginger and some seasoning and break an egg over them. The egg sticks and does a good job of holding the flavors.
I’m currently doing 5:2 and really struggling with the fact that I can’t eat my own body weight in pasta (complete carb monster here). I’ve tried this sort of noodle in the past and it was dreadful, but decided to give this brand a try. This is by far the most palatable one I’ve tried. It seems much thinner than the others, and is very like rice noodles (rather than egg noodles) in both appearance and texture.
I prepared it by rinsing well in boiling and cold water, then frying with low cal spray in a frying pan for several minutes, before adding stir fry veg and soy sauce. The noodles are pale yellow rather than white, which somehow makes them seem less alien! They still have a slightly odd crunchy texture to them if you concentrate hard, but overall taste just fine. I didn’t notice any fishy smell, but deliberately didn’t go smelling them too hard! don’t think any of these products are ever going to mimic pasta exactly (sob), but as a weight loss aid, these are a very useful addition to your battle plan.
Honestly I think this is a great product.
Yes, there is a slightly fishy smell when you open the package but this goes away once you rinse them with water. The noodles dont have any particular flavor so they absorb whatever flavor you have them with , tomato sauce and cheese, asian stir fries etc.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because in my opinion I need a bit more than just 100 gr. The package is 200 gr and its supposed to serve 2 people but I have it all to myself. I also wish it was a bit cheaper.
First time I tried these noodles was today and I followed the instructions carefully by washing the noodles thoroughly before adding them to my stir fry and tossing in the wok with a little sesame oil for added flavour. I am used to different textures of noodles so I wasn’t put off by the chewy texture and for the soy sauce dish I was making, they turned out nicely. The description does state fewer calories then the actual pack contain so that needs to be corrected. There are approximately 42 calories to a 200 gram pack. I wasn’t really bothered about the calories – I just wanted something gluten free. Still it shouldn’t be advertised as zero calorie noodles (most definitely not pasta in any way)!
This probably doesn’t warrant a 4 star but for adding bulk to a meagre diet it’s brilliant. I found that adding late to a tasty stir fry helps but do wash it well first as the fishy smell is extremely overpowering and difficult to shift. I used hot water which I think helps and just keep rinsing it. The half packet serving is pitiful but the whole packet is only about 15 calories and I think it would be difficult to store anyway. As a diet pasta substitute I am more then happy to keep eating it. I also quite like the spaghetti for the same reasons but haven’t tried the rice yet.
