I went for a self-install option but got a local tradesman to do the wiring up as they were coming round for other work anyway. Saved a bit of money that way and ensured it was all done properly. Plus, the Hive website had no appointments in my area for 5 weeks…pretty hopeless. The tech side of the setup was not that straightforward. The instructions which come in the box are useless…well…they don’t even exist in all honesty. It’s pointless bits of paper with no actual help. I tried to make sense of the instructions and videos on the Hive website, but they were pretty unhelpful too. I ended up getting advice from Mumsnet and YouTube, which got my whole system going in no time! The app syncing with my hub was the biggest headache. It took so many attempts and so much time I thought I’d been sent a faulty hub! It eventually kicked in though, and now that it works, I am very happy with the system.

Really pleased with the Hive Mini. It’s easy to use, even if the schedule takes a bit of effort. It also looks very neat and minimal. I like how it can be used with other Hive products or on its own with the hub. For the price, it’s a great device.

Would recommend skipping the professional installation with Amazon. Thought it would be easier than getting someone local in, but Orderworks cancelled our appointment half a day before the fitting. Apparently the booking system with Amazon is only a “preferred date” rather than a confirmed one, although nobody bothered to say it wasn’t possible until so close. I cancelled it and managed to find a local electrician who did it for 50, less than half the 120 I would have paid Orderworks.

Well made and works well with the App.
Nice tidy little unit that’s easy to hide from view although probably best not to put in cupboards etc as needs connectivity. Had this fitted and set up by an electrician one part is fitted to the boiler. The App on your phone means heating can be altered when away from the house. All in all very useful.

Pretty good product. Has a few software bugs but nothing serious. Build quality is good and feels solid. My local plumber fitted the unit for me for 20 and it took him about 10 minutes, far cheaper than the daylight robbery fitting fee that Hive wanted.m- hence the lost star. Product itself is very good though and shows why it’s a market leader.

Great product, installed it myself, no issues – works great. Just a little advice if struggling to link the receiver to the thermostat – hold the heating button on the receiver for 10 seconds till the amber light turns white, and it will connect in seconds. I was waiting like an hour before I found this on the internet. Great tool

As long as you don’t have to wire the boiler side, there’s a bunch of guides online to help. For combi boilers, it does not have correct wiring information, you have to use different ports than what it says.

It’s 4 stars because it’s locking functionality behind a subscription, which is bizarre for a thermostat. Heating should not be a love service

Bought this version in error realised when arrived I needed the hub as well. Quick end easy to return as hadnt opened.
Once got right one was very easy to install. As was replacing another brand that was not a efficient any more. Is great video on you tube shows how to wire up cable from boiler. Go for installation option if new install. Good tip from video as to start updating hub while doing rest. Makes alot quicker.
Once all connected was quick to set up with app and use. We went for monthly charge for other options on app. The app has helped us save money by it learning how long takes to get temp. We have been able to adjust as we got use to how it works and adjust temperature set to at different times of day and night. Great feature is if we want temp at 19 at 6am it knows what time it needs to come on and be at that temp. The layout of app is easy to use. Although they have a beta version that’s not compact on screen as original is central for our most used. Beta is along top not as user friendly for that but rest are same . Can easily edit each preset from home screen and adjust temp and time given external temperature. Was a good offer in app for reduced price boiler service. Just want many appointments available so need to book well in advance

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up and use

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI managed to install my own hive heating following the online instructions from hive. I already had my old hub so a cost of 45 on offer for the thermostat I’m extremely happy.

We’ve used Hive for a number of years now, it’s quite simple but has a huge improvement over your heating efficiency and management.

I actually couldn’t figure out my old thermostat, it was excessively over complicated to set a simple schedule and resorted me having to attend to the thermostat located on the wall on my hallway should I want to turn the heating on or off. Hive has allowed me to either set up a simple schedule and control the heating manually through the wireless thermostat, the hive app or my Alexa.

The geofence notifications are extremely handy, particularly in an energy crisis. Once I leave a certain radius of my home hive will sent me a notification to remind me the heating is on and I am then proceed to turn it off to avoid heating an empty home. It will also send a notification when re entering the geofence to turn the heating on to prepare the house for arrival.

I can’t speak for other thermostats such as nest etc but hive has always been an excellent addition to my smart home devices and is an extremely convenient device to take control over your heating system.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersInstalled this thermostat and some radiator valves from Hive now.
In terms of just this thermostat, it installed easily enough to my boiler and controls the heating without any issues. In the hive app, this shows a graph of how warm it has been, although some views are paywalled and I keep accidentally hitting those buttons (just means i get told I need to pay to access those pages).
For controlling the heating it works great.

In terms of hive overall and not just this thermostat – The radiator valves are connected now but I wish you could link a couple devices together, e.g. 2 rad thermostats if they’re in the same room.
The rad thermostats DON’T keep a history of the temperature so you can only see current temperature.
To setup a schedule, you need to do it against every single device. You can’t copy a schedule from one to another. My house has 10 radiators (now 8 on hive) so… setup was a little tedious.
The rad valves can turn on the heating but it does seem to have a delay each time. Not really sure what that’s about… Not a long delay at least.

Overall for hive, it works, it’s ok… but its not the most responsive system and it really could do historical temperature per radiator valve too.
