There is nothing like running out of juice during a shoot and needing more battery power – that’s where this D-Tap NP-F550 dummy battery comes in perfectly!

I was at a shoot the other week where one of my small fill light batteries ran out and I was already using my backup NP battery on another accessory – save the day D-Tap NP-F550! I swapped out my backup NP with the D-Tap and placed the backup onto my fill-light and we were off to the races!

Having a D-Tap version of the NP-F550 is absolutely a no-brainer when it comes to doing shoots on the road with sometimes limited tools and accessories. That and Neewer have been creating amazingly great tools and accessories for photographers and videographers over the last couple of years, and this one is no exception.

Overall, if you use V-Mount batteries and any accessories that use or require NP-F batteries, then this D-Tap NP-F550 Dummy Battery is an absolute No-Brainer Pickup!

Perfect fit to power my Atomos Shinobi from my v mount battery.
Dummy battery and connector feel good. Cord is long enough to reach anywhere on your rig.
Since npf batteries don’t use decoding chips for things like monitors, there isn’t really a chance of this not working for your particular device, assuming it uses NPF batteries at the same voltage….

I like that the dummy battery is very thin. This allows it to be potentially used in more than just monitors. It should fit in npf side handles as well.

The description says the cord is max 5 feet long. this is kinda misleading because at that length there is a lot of tension from the coils and it probably won’t work for the rig., it might pull things and what no

I bought this for a field monitor I was using on set and have never looked back! If you’re using a field monitor with no locking DC barrel jack, you NEED this dummy battery. I’ve had experiences where my field monitor had no locking port for the DC barrel jack, leading to unintentional power cuts. With this solution, I was able to operate knowing that my field monitor had a secure power connection to my D-tap connection.

Well made, fits into any of my lights that use a NP-F battery well. Great molding and build on the adapter, and the Dtap plug works well also. It’s all plastic in design. While general studio usage is probably fine, I don’t think this has the chops to last long in the field without it being somewhat babied. It just doesn’t feel that rugged.

Some other critiques are the length of the cable is pretty substantial, which would make it annoying for some smaller portable builds looking to use a dtap to power a NP-F battery. Also would of liked a textured grip built into the side of the dtap plug. It’s not terrible to work with now, but probably would be more annoying to deal with in bad weather or non ideal conditions.

It worked like a charm for me though, and was able to power a plethora of portable lights and field monitors without any issues. I actually like the length of the cable as it brings the weight of the center of balance for some lights away from head and more towards the middle of the stand due to the counter balance effect of the vmount battery.

Great for using vmounts on lights, cables a little lengthy for camera rigs.

Review for: “Neewer D Tap to NP-F550 Dummy Battery with Cable for V Mount Battery, Stable Power Supply for RGB660 RGB1200 RGB168 BH20B LED Video Light F500 F400 F100 Compatible with Atomos Ninja Monitor, VP-F550”

Build quality is good, Made of solid ABS plastic which precise cutting to fit my Atomos Ninja V without any problem. I like the coiled cable which is flexible to fit the required distance and tangled free.
I have a small 50Wh V-mount battery and test it with Atomos Ninja V, and it shows the power as 8.1V which is pretty much like a fresh NP-F970 battery.

I also tried this dummy battery on LED light and it gives the same satisfying result.
Another quality item from Neewer as expected.

Using a d-tap on a v-mount battery is an excellent method to power your accessories while keeping the setup lightweight and compact, instead of attempting to fit a larger NPF battery in the same location. This setup is particularly effective for sliders or monitors and enhances the longevity of your gear’s battery life when using the v-mount battery.

So by having this dummy battery, it can help power my equipment via one large v-mount vs several larger NPF batteries

This battery adapter is fine. It works. There are no issues with functionality. It’s very lightweight since it’s not housing any cells or battery power. It’s essentially just wiring allowing a NP-F battery operated item to be run off a D-tap source.

I got this so I could run my camera monitor off of my V-mount battery. My camera rig has my v-mount mounted directly behind my camera. Which is a smaller mirrorless camera. For my purposes the wire on this adapter is far too long. Too much slack for a camera rig. I thought it would be okay since the cable is coiled. But there’s still too much of it and cable management for coiled wires is tougher than straight ones. I think it needed to be 1/3 shorter.

Maybe for some other applications or bigger rigs it’s perfect. Maybe offering different legnths/sizes is the solution. I could imagine an LED light that runs off a single NP-F battery would need a longer wire to reach a battery plate thats mounted on a light stand. And there maybe be other use cases I haven’t thought of.

My model also arrived with a couple kinks in the coil. No big deal but I’m someone who cares about symmetry and aesthetics in my equipment. Especially with wires as you never want to stress them out of their natural shape. You want to preserve their longevity.

Overall it’s a nice product. It works. That’s what matters most. I’m just not sure hownmuch use I’ll get out of it in my videography work flow.
