Lots of watts, beware polarity
This supply works well and delivers the high wattage required by some gadgets. Have to be careful with polarity as you can’t switch it this is positive centre if I recall correctly, the more common configuration.
It works
Broke our charger for our boys monitor set and was struggling to get the exact one but this one works perfectly and can charger other items in the household also
Pick your device……. This will fit lots of them
This is a great multi voltage power supply with easy to change tips for various devices. At 3 Amps maximum and between 5v and 15v, it will fit many devices. It is worth noting that this will fit any device at voltages of 5v, 6v, 7,5v, 9v, 12v, 13.5v, and 15v. It will power up to 3A and can be used on devices less than.
There is a good selection of tips that will fit thousands of devices. Note that this power supply is centre pin positive, and outer is negative. Always check that this is the right polarity for your device. Often the symbol is on the device. Most UK devices are positive centre, but there are some that have outer positive. If you connect it to the wrong polarity, you could damage your device, so checking is a must. This applies to the barrel tips included, not the USB
There is a handy screw terminal connector included. I use this for my electronics hobby for adding temporary power to devices.
Use the included key to turn the voltage to the desired setting. It is as simple as that.
It has a power indicator on the main unit. For my electronics testing hobby, this is a great unit without the need to have multiple power supplies or a big bench supply.
The voltage using my test meter is accurate to the setting chosen and is stable.
A great little power supply. There is also a USB A port on the plug-in unit as well.
Versatile uni
I’m an IT consultant and frequently have to match power supplies to items like network switches, external storage drives, routers and firewalls. These might be handed to me for testing with a dead power supply or no power supply, or I’m shown a cardboard box full of power supplies and told to find the right one.
This little gadget fits in my backpack easily and in the three weeks I’ve had it I’ve saved at least two hours because I’ve had a known good power supply with me to test stuff. The selection of plugs is very comprehensive and individually are very useful for determining the size of plug required, possibly on something under a desk or in a cupboard I can’t see the back of easily.
I also like the fact that changing the voltage requires a screwdriver, although the one supplied is rather anaemic in build quality, as that means you can’t accidentally change the voltage while inserting the adapter into a mains socket, which is something that happened a lot with an older universal adapter I had.
Flexible power adapte
I’ve had a couple of these over the years and they always seem to be present until you actually need it, then they seem to vanish into thin air (which means family usually borrow them). I’m always conscious that using any other power adapter can cause damage to a device so having one that is adjustable in terms of the voltage output puts my mind at ease. Having the multiple fittings is also great, even if I use two out of the 9 connectors. That said, you can’t beat choice and you never know what you’ll need next. This works well, I’ve used the micro usb and the 6.5mm so far without issue. I’d recommend if you need a back-up or replacement power adapter with one of the listed connectors and voltage levels.
Good assortment of connectors and voltages
I used to own one of these before and they’re incredibly useful so I jumped at the chance to review this item.
The unit is compact – similar to a normal charging plug although it has a voltage switch on the back allowing you to select from 5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12, 13.5 and 15 volts. It also comes with 10 different connectors – the base one and 9 adaptors, including one that will accept bare wires, so it should fit most items, so if you’ve lost the original charger this can stand in.
The one connector I find invaluable isn’t included in this set and that’s the 9V battery terminal connector – useful for when you don’t have a 9V battery lying around!!
Anyway – I tested it with a few different items and all charged with no problem. At under 14 this is a good deal.
Great addition to the toolbox
I had one of these years ago, until one of my sons ‘borrowed’ it and I never saw it again. A replacement has been on my list for some time now, and this little universal adapter is exactly what I was looking for. There are no frills – it comes plainly packaged in a brown box, with all the adapters in a plastic bag. There is also a small instruction sheet, but that isn’t really necessary as operation is obvious – plug in the end you want, set the correct voltage (usually stated on the appliance to be charged) and go. I no longer have to worry about losing the charger for my tablet, phone or other gadget, and there are adapters to fit most things included in the box. A good, inexpensive adapter that does just what you want it to at a good price.
decent, stable output, easily adjusted but hard to do accidentally
good little power supply this, there are quite a few similar on the market, the addition of the USB-A socket is a nice touch though and makes the application even wider.
especially useful on a project bench as it can replace a range of similar devices for different voltages when testing things. its easy to change the voltage but with the dial under the socket its hard to do accidentally, this also makes it impossible to see the current setting without unplugging it so some care is needed to check its the right setting.
of course if being used more generally it can probably be set, plugged in and left
voltage out seemed good and stable, it does get a bit warm at higher current outputs nothing too bad but keep airflow around i
Very useful kit - stop buying all those batteries!
If you have electrical equipment which only occasionally needs charging and/or you’ve lost the original charger, this one unit can likely cover most of the bases for you – as well as coming with a USBC adaptor so it will also work with most modern phones. You just need to check the DC voltage input your device requires (and the polarity, but that’s relatively unusual) and set the selector to that; the adaptor does the rest.
Personally I like using plugs like this around Christmas time, when all of the battery operated lights come out – wasteful, so I cut the boxes off and wire them up to these things. I have other adaptors which can provide lower voltages, but even this one’s 5V shouldn’t be a problem as a replacement for 3 x 1.5V AA batteries in series = 4.5V – that extra half a volt won’t do a string of LEDs any harm; and for that the screw-down terminal adaptor is just the ticket.
Most importantly, I’ve plugged in this review unit, tested it, and it works. Not a bad price, either.
Decent universal adapter.
It’s happened many times where I lose my power adapter for a certain plug and need to order a replacement, this recently happened to my electric keyboard (piano). This adapter seems to have worked nicely with one of its many-available nozzles for different products. It comes in a small packaging with 2 packets, one with the adapter and the other with the nozzles. It also contains a Micro-USB nozzle just in case you need one, the voltage itself adapts based on the power requirement.
Overall a very handy product that has many uses and always good to have one lying around. This should only be used for products that do not require much wattage, for heavier electronics that consume more please ensure you use a suitable official adapter as this may be insufficient or cause issues.
Useful bit of kit to have around.
Excellent replacement power supply with a good array of tips to fit most low voltage devices.
It also has a useful permanent USB output.
Got this to replace the power supply on an android box and it works perfectly but, on looking around I have found 8 devices so far that it would work with, including land line phone base station, weather station, radio, echo dot and Sony e-reader.
Replace broken, lost or misplaced power supplies or use it to troubleshoot, is your device broken or is it the power supply?
Simple to use, check your device and set the appropriate voltage, choose the correct size tip and that’s it.
It comes with a small screwdriver to assist in selecting the voltage, you’ll need it as the selector is quite stiff.
A Basic But Versatile And Effective Power Supply
This multi-voltage power supply comes to us in a plain unbranded cardboard box.
Within the box is the adaptor unit itself inside a plastic bag, a user guide, a warranty card and a bag containing a selection of tips.
The charger unit has a pleasantly curved body incorporating a small blue LED to show when it is receiving mains power. It incorporates a fixed UK 3-pin plug , and isn’t the type where you can swap it over to EU or US format pins. The device is double-insulated, so only requires a plastic ground pin.
The charger can supply up to 3A at one of seven voltages. They are 5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V, 12V, 13.5V and 15V. Supplying 15V at 3A gives this supply its 45W rating. The voltage selection is via a rotary switch mounted beneath the mains plug using a small key (supplied) or a flat blade screwdriver. There is no indication from the front which voltage you have selected.
Speaking of the output, probably the most important detail of this power supply is that there is no in-built facility for swapping polarity. For most of the nine supplied tips, the centre core or pin is the positive voltage and the outer ring or sheath the negative. That is fixed unless you get a polarity reverser cable/adaptor which isn’t supplied. Most devices work with a positive centre power connector, but you should always check.
The two tips which don’t follow the centre-negative rule is the micro-USB tip and the screw terminal tip. The micro-USB tip follows the standard for power delivery, while the screw terminals are marked + and – for you to connect the appropriate wires.
In tests, the selected output voltages were pretty accurate to within 0.1 or 0.2 volts. Regulation was good too, with those ranges not changing when the supply had a moderate load attached.
We used the supply to initially recharge a portable floodlight which needs 12V to charge. It rapidly topped up from around 80% to 100%. However, it’s important to not that this supply doesn’t support any of the phone, tablet or laptop charger protocols, such as QC or PD. It’s an unintelligent 3A regulated DC supply. That’s all it does, and it does it very competently through a diverse range of tips.
We’d prefer some way of seeing the selected voltage while the device is plugged in and a method of polarity reversal, but it’s otherwise ideal if you need a 3A low voltage power supply.
