Another excellent Philips produc
This has replaced my polti steam generator and what a difference this machine is, light and powerful. The steam generator has its own setting for heat so not adjustable which at first I was dubious about but it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it from clothing including jeans and cotton bedding with ease, with no issues regarding this function. So much lighter that the previous generator and also the water tank is removable so no longer carrying jugs of water to the iron, just remove the tank and fill. All in all I have no issues or complaints regarding this product and if this one fails in the future I will be buying another Philips. Thank you Amazon for a great machine and price.
Does the job well
Can’t fault it, normally my partner burns everything with an iron so far nothing. Does take a minute or two to heat up so switch on and go make a coffee.
Excellent compact steam generator, but expensive
This is a surprisingly compact steam generator iron which means it takes up less space in storage or on the ironing board. Despite this, and the light weight iron plate itself, a full water tank is more than sufficient to iron far more clothes than I want to. It irons well without the weight due to the massive amount of steam produced. Controlling this is easy though. Whilst this iron does not make ironing pleasurable, it does make it bearable.
Negatives, well it’s expensive.
Overall four stars.
Impressive performance
This is a brilliant iron but unfortunately mine arrived damaged. I wasn’t able to test the lock function as part of the casing had snapped off. I hadn’t used a steam generator before so was very impressed with performance. It is quite bulky but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never go back to a standard iron again. The results are excellent, and this unit makes the process of crease removal so much quicker and more efficient. Worth the investment.
Summary
Very compact and a good price for a quality product from Philips
Operation
The product is almost entirely automatic. There are no temperature controls, just an on/off switch and the same button switches between normal or max steam output – with the aid of an indicator LED lamp.
Performance
The iron emits a large amount of steam in normal mode and a huge amount in the Max setting. I feel though there could be a setting for ‘Eco’, although Philips may argue that it already is economical to run with the auto off feature. The auto temp feature claims there can be no burns to clothes too – not that I would take the chance.
Energy saving
In these days of spiralling energy costs, it’s good to see there are appliances with auto shut off and this one is no exception.
De-calc
Philips has thoughtfully provided a de-calc plastic tray to sit the iron on during de-calc. There are also audible indicators for when the iron reaches the operating temperature and when de-calc has finished too.
Storage
It is much smaller than our current machine and so easily fits into our cupboard. The tank unit has a lock feature that keeps the iron head attached to the body of the machine – another good safety feature.
Value for money
Currently at just under 150, I believe this is a very good price. Our other machine costs a good deal more and they both have similar performance.
Impressive and smaller than other steam irons
The main thing that attracted me to this steam iron is that it’s smaller than other similar models it’s less cumbersome and takes up less room; but it is still larger than traditional irons.
This iron certainly makes ironing a breeze as it conveniently glides through clothes and you don’t have to worry about temperature controls as it’s automated. The steam function is also great for those stubborn creases.
The descaling tray is something I haven’t seen before but it’s certainly a convenient addition.
It really is an excellent iron if you have the space for it and you iron often as it is rather pricey for just an occasional-use iron.
I would recommend this iron.
Loads of Ironing on One Tank of Wate
This is more than an iron, though it works in the same way, it has a large 1.8 litre water tank which keeps you going for hours!
It’s large, and I’ve had to change my ironing place because of it, but the iron itself is quite light and works in the same way as any normal steam iron. The bulk of the iron is the water tank which also has the power lead and the iron rest — the iron won’t sit upright on the ironing board.
I’ve been using an iron without a temperature/fabric gauge for a few years and I really like that this works in the same way. I love not having to think about which garments to do next because the iron is very hot/cool.
There is a trigger under the handle of the iron which releases steam — vast amounts of steam! Initially I was using too much steam but you get used to when and how long to press the trigger. If you over-do it, you’ll end up with steamy windows.
This is a very nice iron to use, the boost of steam cuts down ironing time and the iron itself is nice and light to handle. The only thing that bugs me is that the iron won’t sit upright on the ironing board (the electric lead comes out of the bottom) and needs to be placed back on the tank while ironing. This means I have to iron in the kitchen with the tank and iron on a worktop with my ironing board beside it — I’d much rather be in the lounge watching telly.
Bigger, yet smalle
In 2015 I got a Philips Perfectcare steam generator iron (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GZQMJCA?th=1) and it’s worked well apart from one breakdown where it was replaced by Philips without any trouble. It’s still going strong, and my only issue is that the filters cost so much and need to be replaced way too often.
This iron has a larger water tank (by 300ml) so should last a bit longer between fills. This is great for us, as the amount of ironing we do in one go usually results in just over one tank of water being used in the old iron.
The design of this one is very angled compared to the smooth contours of the original one, and I’m undecided as to which I prefer. Certainly, the new one fits in my cupboard better, despite the larger tank.
As far as ironing goes, it does what it says it will. It takes a couple of minutes to heat up but then irons clothes just as well as the previous model owned. Personally, I’m not convinced that the upgrade to the newer model has enough benefits for the price – if you don’t have an iron like this, and need one, I would of course recommend this. If you already have an older model that still works, save your money.
Absolutely a gem . Philips is a brand name of trust. It’s been around for longer than I have been on earth. I am 53 by the way. I have had so many Philips products during my life time and I have trust in this brand of quality.
This is the best steam iron I have used in my life. I am absolutely delighted to see the innovative design and functionality it offers. I have uploaded a little video clip of my lovely wife ironing her clothes. She said that the iron basically glide on the surface of garments and the steam is taking out all the creases without any effort. She says it has cut her time of ironing to half compared to using a conventional iron. I am impressed and happy as reducing time on ironing means less electricity used. Energy prices are out of reach of most population here in UK so if these new innovative technologies can save you money and reduce time wastage then it it no brainer.
Design wise it’s a beauty with very subtle blue and white glossy finish. Iron is lightweight and very comfortable to use. It has a trigger button on the grip handle so while you ironing your clothes, just double click the button to release quick jet of steam especially for thick fabric coats and jackets.
You can also use this iron vertically with continuous steam function on hanging curtains, wedding dress or delicate fabric that can only be steam cleaned. Iron is totally burn proof hence another reason for investing in something that will protect your clothes and house too. My daughters are young and careless so having something like this will save us all the hassle and nagging.
Overall I am thrilled with this steam iron by Philips. It is a gentle beast and economic. It cuts both time and effort in half so what more can be said. Buy with 100% confidence.
The best iron we’ve actually ever owned.
This Philips iron is amazing! It’s the best we’ve ever owned, even my husband is impressed!
The basics to know (broken down for ease of reading this review) are:
1. It heats up really quickly and is ready to use within a minute. This is obviously extremely quick which means ironing is done that much faster and is convenient when you don’t need to wait a long time to iron if only wanting it to iron a shirt, etc
2. The cord length is pretty decent. You can plug in to an outlet and have a fairly good reach away from it. We had no issue in setting the ironing board up a few feet away from the socket.
3. The temperature control is good. It has a no burn plate and the iron glides along clothes with ease. It makes light work of diminishing creases.
4. It’s really easy to set up and use. There isn’t too much going on that you’d need to read a few pages of instructions to understand use. It’s straight forward and simple in design whilst having intelligent technology.
5. The noise. It’s something I needed to knock a star off for as oh my goodness is it LOUD! I actually cannot stand and do the ironing in the lounge now and watch/listen to tv at the same time because every time the steam goes off it does so really noisily- loud enough in fact to not be able to hear what they are saying on the tv for a good few seconds.
All in all I do think it’s an amazing buy, has made ironing so much quicker and easier, but is noisy.
If you've got lots of ironing to do then this will make the chore less of a chore
Most people have heard the brand name of Philips and most people will have a positive attitude toward Philips products with this going on the list of well made and very useful products with the Philips badge stamped on it.
The iron itself is probably no bigger than irons from way back which were heated on a fire before ironing your things. The reason for this small size is that the water for this iron doesn’t sit in the iron itself, it sits in a reservoir which the iron rests upon when not in use.
The reservoir holds up to 1.8 litres of water and slides into the main body which the iron sits up. The water pipe feeds the water from the reservoir to the iron itself. with the pipe being about a metres or so, which means you’re not trapped to the reservoir when you need to iron things.
Using it is pretty easy, and as the iron itself is so light, using it for longer periods doesn’t cause any real aches and pains in the wrist and elbows, which is good.
You simply fill the removeable water reservoir with water and slide it back into the main body. Then you turn the iron on and wait for a bleep to let you know it’s ready to use. Then you can get on with the ironing without the need to constantly fill up the iron’s water tank.
This iron tells you when it needs descaling, with a descaling tray provided for you in the box and, for safety, there’s an automatic cut off if this iron hasn’t been used in ten minutes.
This has to be one of the best irons I’ve used. It’s so light to use and slides over the material without any hassle at all, like a feather over a silk cloth. The steam function makes it even easier to use and can get those more stubborn creases from most materials.
When finished with you slide out the reservoir and tip away any excess water before sliding the reservoir back into place.
The iron locks into the main body which makes it easier to move the entire thing and the water pipe is flexibly and doesn’t get in the way when ironing.
In all, this is another excellent product from Philips and is built to make life easier for those who iron.
If you do a lot of ironing then this is something for you to consider investing in it will save you a lot of hassles when your ironing over and over again as the reservoir hold much, much more than a standard iron does.
But if you only iron a shirt every 7 days then this may well be overpriced for what you need.
Takes all the effort out of ironing
This steam generator iron takes all the effort out of ironing, there is a large capacity 1.8l detachable water tank for easy filling, the iron provides continuous steam which is perfect for ironing multiple garments very swiftly with incredibly easy functions to use, the iron uses only 1 temperature/mode so you don’t have to mess about selecting different modes to iron different fabrics or having to remember to do so, there is a bar underneath the handle which can be pressed for an additional steam boost for more stubborn creases.
The instructions supplied are a little vague & mainly in the form of diagrams either to follow or to avoid doing, there are some handy additional features which are very helpful & easy to use including a descaling reminder which helps to ensure your iron continues to perform at it’s optimal level & an automatic off switch where the iron automatically switches off after 10 minutes when not in use, you can also leave the iron switched on with the sole plate in contact with your garments or ironing board without burning or damaging them.
The handle feels comfortable to grip & hold during use whilst the sole plate provides a large smooth, scratch resistant surface which effortlessly glides over any creases, from the first garment to the last it makes ironing a simple task rather than the chore it used to be before, the iron can be securely locked onto it’s base by pushing the lock tab at the pointed end of the base which is an excellent safety feature if you have children or pets.
I also like that this iron can either be used on an ironing board or whilst the garment is hanging which is an excellent time saver for busy lifestyles or families – I can now have a shirt freshly ironed without first having to take the time or effort to get the ironing board out & set up or packing it all away!
Great steam iro
Philips PerfectCare Steam generator 6000 Series. It’s easy to use and set up once you have read the manual. The water compartment has a 1.8 L capacity for the steam generator. The iron itself as a whole unit is light to lift and the iron itself is very lite. You can also lock the iron in place when moving it about. It also comes with a descaling tray.
I have noticed a few good Features things about this iron. It makes an Audible Chime to tell you the iron is ready, also the light on the front of the iron goes from flashing white two solid white. To activate the steam generator you must hold the button for two seconds and it will light up Which is located at the back of the iron.
The iron will also tell you when it is time to de-scale the iron in the descaling tray.
The other brilliant feature on this iron is that if you leave the iron on and don’t come back to it for 10 minutes. It will automatically turn off.
I have used the iron to do a variety of materials, such as cotton and linen, etc, using the steam generator and it worked brilliantly, glides on the clothes with ease, knocked out the creases in the clothes with very little effort. To have a quick burst of steam press the button quickly twice otherwise there is a slight delay when you press the button for stream to come out. Compared to my other steam generator iron this one is definitely better because I can now see the water level and it lets me know when it’s ready to go with the audible sound and is much more compact as my other one was a bit bulky. I also tested the timer function on the iron and it works like a dream turning off within the 10 minutes it said. It does recommend to empty the water tray after you have finished using the iron for the day.
I am a bit apprehensive about the iron not having a dial to select the clothing you are ironing as my old iron did. In the manual it does say that the iron should adapt to the material it is ironing, so far it hasn’t damaged any items so it seems to be true.
Having used a steam generator iron for the first time this year we would never go back to a conventional one.
These are our thoughts on this Philips model:
Looks smart.
Easy to fill, we use distilled water from our kettle, as we are in a hard water area.
It has a large 1.8 L tank eliminating the need for constant refilling.
Quick to heat up, about 2 minutes.
You may need an ironing board with a larger steam generator rest to safely sit the whole unit. We did find with this model, unlike our existing one, that the base unit moved around a little when docking the iron. This may be because it is a little lighter. Having said that, because the board has a rim there was no danger of the unit falling.
Its best feature is that there are no heat settings to play around with, which is a bit disconcerting at first, but works whether it is a thin synthetic material or thick denim. The product page makes a lot of the optimalTEMP feature that ensures no clothing is burnt, even if the iron is left on it, strangely the instructions make no real reference to this feature. You will not be surprised to know I have not gone out of my way to test this.
It is light and glides over clothes making ironing easier and faster, no pressure needs to be applied.
The instructions indicate that to generate a short burst of steam the button needs to be pressed twice quickly, this takes some getting used to at first. We found that one short press gives a burst for that moment. To get the maximum continuous steam burst the on/off button has to be pressed for 2 seconds, this is most useful when ironing vertically, see video.
The vertical steaming was impressive, my wife tested it on a creased cotton dressing gown, it will be very good for men’s shirts.
The auto-shutdown feature is an excellent energy-saving safeguard.
The Cal Clean feature is well thought out and much easier than on our existing iron’s. A tray is supplied to sit the iron on during the process.
I have to say that a negative is the unclear picture instructions which were difficult to interpret in places.
In my opinion, a price of almost 200 is a bit high, this and the unclear instructions are the only reasons for deducting 1 star from a 5-star steam generator iron.
This iron is great i love i
This is an iron that everyone would need at home. From the photos,it seemed very big at first and I was thinking if I would have a place to keep it but in reality it is not that big and does not take up much space. The tank is big enough and it is not very heavy. Has a very good surface, does not stick to clothes, has powerful steam and temperature control. Now I will not worry every time I leave the house if I have turned off the iron since this model has the shut off option, the moment I do not used for a certain time iron turns itself off. Also, the iron has the descaling accessory and it is very easy to use.I think it will last for a long time.I am very happy with this order and I would recommend it to my friends .
