I bought this radio for my workshop because I wanted a DAB radio for better reception. For such a small radio it produces a very good sound, it’s nicely designed and the station pre-set programming is easy to use. The only slight downside is the rechargeable battery doesn’t last as long as I’d like, but that’s a small quibble. Overall, for the price, this is an excellent product.
Was looking for a replacement for my last DAB Radio that had decided to start playing up.
Saw this and others and I didn’t want to spend loads as this is just to sit in my home office to be some background noise. The sound from this little device is very good indeed, no over modulation and can go to a decent volume with no distortions etc.
The fact that it is USB C chargeable to certainly a bonus, rather than having to use yet another plug in power pack and purchase batteries.
Tuning and storing stations is very easy, I didn’t even need to read the instructions, although if you are new to DAB+ I suggest you do !..
Overall, a fantastic purchase and I may even take on holidays with me to see what it finds in other Countries !
I recently purchased the Majority Orwell DAB Radio and have been thoroughly impressed with its performance and design. I’ve had my fair share of experiences with different Majority products and expected the usual high standard.
The audio quality of Orwell is clear and offers a decent amount of depth for the size of the speaker. Whilst it could benefit from having 2 speakers rather than 1 to give it slightly more richness at higher volumes, it would mean the radio wasn’t as compact as it is. The DAB+ technology ensures a crystal-clear signal with minimal interference, allowing me to enjoy my favorite stations without any annoying static or distortion. There is also FM radio built in for those who want to enjoy FM broadcasts, the scanning feature finds FM stations with speed and ease. You can also use these radio features to wake up to your station of choice with the built in digital alarm clock.
One of the standout features of the Orwell is its user-friendly interface. Upon turning it on for the first time it delivers a full scan of DAB stations. The intuitive controls make it easy to navigate through stations, set presets, and adjust settings. There is a booklet of instructions to guide you through the set up although the interface is simple enough to not need this. The bright and large digit display provides clear information about the current station, song title, and other relevant details. The inclusion of preset buttons allows quick access to favorite stations, adding to the overall convenience. You can add up to 20 presets which is a great feature to stop you having to scroll through over 100 stations that are available.
In terms of design, the Orwell is compact and the black finish adds style. The compact size doesn’t compromise on performance, making it ideal for both small and large spaces.
Additionally, the Orwell offers versatility with its ability to connect to other devices. The inclusion of Bluetooth connectivity allows for easy streaming of music from smartphones and tablets. There is also a headphone jack, so if you need to keep your listening from disturbing other then sticking in some earphones gives you a more personal listening experience.
The Orwell has built-in rechargeable battery, providing an level of portability that is really convenient. No longer tethered to power outlets, I can fast charge it using the USB-C charging cable provided and take this radio anywhere — from picnics in the park to camping trips in the great outdoors. The long-lasting 12 hour battery life ensures extended listening enjoyment, making it a reliable companion for those on the move or just taking it around the house.
In conclusion, the Orwell has delivered the usual Majority seal of quality in terms of audio quality, user interface, design, and overall performance.
I had a cheap DAB radio I use when doing DIY, unfortunately it met with a mishap which broke the charge socket, so I bought this as a cheap replacement. It fulfils this role well, surprisingly good sound quality, it works well, bluetooth works fine with my phone, usb-c charge socket is perfect as noone uses micro USB nowadays. On the whole a bargain for the price, if you want a cheap but decent DAB radio, then this is perfect! Think it has a 3 year warranty as well, must check the paperwork – if so, it’s even more of a bargain! – just checked, has a 3 year warranty for which you need to register within 30 days of purchase.
