One of the greatest acting performances of all time with Robert De Niro excellently portraying real life troubled boxer Jake Lamotta. The film also has stellar performances from the likes of Joe Pesci as well.
This true story is well scripted and magnificently acted by De Niro at his very, very best. Joe Pesci is as good as ever, and I suspect against a weaker player, may even have stolen the film. Powerful and sometimes shocking, this is the US fight game with all of its raw edges on show. The boxing scenes are brutally graphic.
It is just a Masterpiece. The atmosphere, simmering tension and perfection from Martin Scorsese is simply five star. Robert De Niro is in my opinion the best Male actor ever and to gain 60 pounds in weight for Jakes downfall just shows his commitment to his parts.
Scorsese,De Niro,Pesci deliver another hard hitting (no pun intended) film about the boxer Jake LaMotta in what is to me De Niro’s finest performance the passion and respect he took to it deserves the respect of anyone who loves films.
I bought the film primarily to replace the VHS tape I had. This film always remains a firm favourite of mine, a timeless classic. The DVD arrived in good time and was in reasonable condition, slight wear to the outer case which had been stated in the product description. This remains one of my top three De Niro films.
A classic. Absolutely. The only, only limit of this movies is that Rocky came first, I know it is a different thing but stll, you think about it in some moments during the movie. Robert De Niro si a giant in this movie, and I am not a Robert De Niro fan. To be seen in the original language of course. It is one of those movies you have to see if you dont want to miss what should not be missed.
This biography is fantastic. Not only is it artistic, but the direction given was so good you feel like you are in the movie. This movie is so well made and so well acted, I think it should be re-released in the cinemas, just to commemorate Robert Di Niro’s awesome acting. The movie did not gross as much money as it should have when it was released at that time. Maybe just bad timing, But the fact that De Niro won a Golden Globe for this, speaks for itself! 10/10.
I was expecting this blu ray movie to have little special features due to there being a 2nd release which was the 30th anniversary edition, when infact it has a lot, not to mention the excellent delivery which was very quick and accurate. 5 stars!
After reading the Robert De Niro biography. Raging Bull gets quite a few mentions and ‘packs plenty of punch’ (see what i did there!) in the making of De Niro’s acting career and his future performances.
Raging Bull, as I watched it again from a purely acting point of view, is sensational. De Niro’s performance lights up the black and white shot film. Knowing a bit more of what went on during the shooting of the movie only adds to the film itself.
Well worth a watch even more so after reading the biography.
A brutal film about a brutal man and how he started a slim and lithe sportsman to an overweight cabaret act, the fights he had in the ring and outside with his wife and brother. Robert De Niro and Joe pesci are outstanding as is Cathy Moriarty who plays Vickie the wife of Jake La Motta. Even if you don’t like sporting films, the drama is well played by first class acting
By far De Niro’s best work, released in 1981 Raging Bull is a must see. This is an iconic film and a great example of beautiful cinematography. Scorsese enhances a true story of one man’s struggle in the sporting arena of boxing. Although this film can feel a little depressing in parts, it is very enjoyable and entertaining.
A great cult film that will look great in any collections. Well worth 6, and useful for those interested in gender studies.
Without doubt one of the all-time great films sees the pairing of Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro.
Filmed almost entirely in black and white, De Niro plays Jake La Motta, the American middleweight fighter. While often dark and violent, Scorsese’s abundant talent is plain. From a simple shot in a mirror to the legendary fight sequences the direction is breathtaking. Joe Pesci is great as La Motta’s younger brother.
A film that is both impossible to criticise and one to judge other films by. Buy.

Golden oldy, love my boxing and this was one of the films (along with Rocky) that made me fall in love with the sport, a must have in the collection!
