Does what it says on the bottle.
Does what it says on the bottle. Easy to apply. Second application gives a better finish. Water forms larger drops and runs off the window. Economic in use. Would buy agai
You need this for British weathe
I like this because of the way it beads the rain on my windscreen and windows, it just flies off! You almost don’t need windscreen wipers. It lasts a while and it’s really easy to apply. Just do it once you’ve cleaned your car!
So, I have been wanting to give this product a try for a while, when my car had its windscreen replaced, I thought I’d give it a go on a blank canvas.
To apply, you rub it on then let it dry and buff off, I found it to be a bit tricky to get off, it was a bit hazy at the edges, you probably wouldn’t notice if it was polish on paintwork, but you look through glass so could see all the marks. With a little more effort, its now clean and clear and during some recent rain it performed really well, almost don’t need to use the wipers. Its lasted well on the side glass so far but less well on the windscreen in the sweep of the wipers, which I guess is to be expected.
Overall, I think it’s a pretty good product, I would use it and buy it again, my only gripe is, if it’s been a cold night in the morning the condensation on the glass clearly shows where and how it’s been applied with swirling, that said maybe there is a knack to it and this can be avoided with practice.
Always good to have in case your wipers fail. Would probably work well on a crash helmet visor.
Don’t use it all of the time but it does work at about 30 mph plus. No good in towns . Wipers soon clean it off when used but you don’t need very much to re apply. A tin will last for ages. All in all I recommend i
A reallt solid safety addition to any vehicle, perfect motorway drives and anything over about 40 miles an hour.
I’ve driven hundreds of miles now without having to use the windscreen wipers once as the rain just beads off the glass.
PREOERATION ….Before applying, clean your windows, I clay barred mine, but a used dish scrubber will work, get all the road grime off FIRST, then a good wash and clean with ISP, apply as instructions. Used on my head lights, wing mirrors as well, hard to see in the video but the van panels are spotted thro rain all the windows are spotless..
This is the bes
Genuinely surprised how well this worked. The windscreen wipers had stopped working on my defender puma which is a god awful job to fix as I needed to take the dashboard out to fix. In the interim I used this and the difference is incredible.
Sprayed just half of the windscreen on a dry day and when it rained you could see the water just roll off, whereas on the non-treated side the water would stay. It wore off over a few days of welsh rain, which is different from english rain in that it never stops, but with this and the windscreen washer additive it gave me enough time before I plucked up enough courage to rip off the dashboard.
Works for a few days
Use it on my car windscreen and for my shower door. Works for 3 or 4 days with a reducing effect after the 2nd day as windscreen wipers work against it.
Lasts an extra couple of days on the inside of the shower door though.

Car & Showe
I have used Rainx on and off for years now but usually in the pour out bottle and only for my car.Anyway now I buy it in the trigger spray to do the inside of the shower screen and the edges of the bath. Its really good stuff and the water beads off the screen very well. Still have to use the squegee to stop limescale marks (we have hard water). But if I forget or cant be bothered I find it takes longer for scale marks to show. However I do use once a week couple of sprays is enough and bottle lasts 6 months. As commented on it is very pungent and if used in enclosed space like shower cubicle it will take your breath away. You need plenty of ventilation. I also use the rainx glass cleaner which is a different product but does work nearly as well but is a lot cheaper. If you wanted to give that a try first.
Also its all in the application it can take some buffing to get the glass crystal clear if your having difficulty just slightly wet the glass and keep buffing. Although I find a perfect crystal finish isn’t too important for the shower your car glass may be a different matter.
Finally I also use this on my taps and everything else around the shower inc porcelain tiles. But I would stress be careful as I have no idea if this could damage whatever fittings you have.
Pretty impressive on a Perspex cycling visor, good value
When cycling I use a helmet (in fact I have several) with a removeable Perspex visor. These invariable become badly scratched over a few months of use, and research suggested Rain-X might help with protecting them. I bought the smallest bottle that I could find, gave my current visor a good clean with lukewarm water, and applied a coat of Rain-X to both sides, following the instructions on the bottle. It seems to have worked reasonably well, the scratches are less prominent and the visor is looking a clearer when worn.
I think this substance would probably work better on a new visor without scratches, and next time I buy another replacement helmet I will definitely try coating it before use.
As well as improving the look of the visor, it also provides a basic slippery coating, which whilst it doesn’t prevent some water beading when riding in the rain, it does at least make the mud and dirt much easier to remove with the wipe of a gloved hand.
Good value for around a fiver, I really didn’t need to apply much to one visor so a bottle will go a long way.
It’s entertaining to watch the water droplets cascade off your windscreen as your hurtle to your destination, cutting through the rain as you go and really does make streaks a thing of the past …
However, the shelf-life of this kind of experience is rather limited.
I’ve had to apply this every 2-3 weeks in typical British Autumn/Winter weather (aka p*ssing it down). The problem is that when you come to clean your car and windows (which is inevitable), I’m of the firm opinion that this product comes off. At 3-5 it wont break the bank to buy a bottle every 3 months (what I estimate), but I’d prefer it was a little more heard wearing.
Application: clean your windows first using washing up liquid and water, then use disposable non-lint paper towels (or newspaper) in order to buff it perfectly clean. Then grab your microfibre towel and apply a little product on to it (NOT directly on the windscreen). Buff it into the windscreen using cross directions aka up and down first, then left and right. Leave it to settle a few minutes, grab a garden hose and entertain yourself with the water beading effect.
Wing mirrors, that’s what I got this for. Mine aren’t heated and don’t have wipers. At speed, they mostly shake off the rain, but before I can get moving fast (or if I’m in traffic) they can be totally obscured by rain or misting. Spending five minutes in (busy!) morning wiping them carefully helped, but in heavy rain that didn’t work for very long. As well as being stuck behind a lorry on a motorway at 48mph terrified to overtake because you can’t see, useless wing mirrors can lead to many more dangerous situations: inability to see oncoming traffic while merging onto a motorway, or hiding that poor cyclist as you make your turn. I bought this stuff more out of desperation than any real hope as I seriously thought it was only a matter of time before an accident occurred, especially with the long winter nights.
I first applied it on my wing mirrors only as a test, a bit dubious about its benefits and wary about using it anywhere else. Almost immediately there was a difference; raindrops barely stuck even at rest, and at speed they were absolutely clear. No more trouble with wing mirrors. Deeply impressed, after about a week I treated all of the other windows. On side windows it’s just as great: they stay almost perfectly clear even in the heaviest rain.
It’s the windscreen and back window where it didn’t work so well.
See, no repellent will ever be good enough that you don’t need to use your wipers. Indeed that’s where the problem begins: turns out they need a bit of water to lubricate them over the glass, and Rain X makes it all run away immediately. I found my rear wipers squeaking loudly and even juddering, potentially damaging the motor, and had to use plenty of screen wash to lubricate them occasionally until it wore off. That lasted a couple of days. And that’s the second problem: screen wash. It’s designed to dissolve dirt, grime, insect innards and other water-insoluble crap on your glass, so it removes Rain X. Not straight away, but it does.
But all this said, I think this stuff is great and I’m going to keep buying it because I’ve come to rely on it. It keeps rain off and my visibility at full, prevents misting (on the outside), and prevents gritting salt residue from drying all over your window. When it’s dark and pouring wet, it makes such an enormous difference it turns a terrifying gauntlet of smeared bright lights and half-blindness into an enjoyable drive again. Just don’t use this for anything that has a wiper: wipers work better than any repellent, and you’ll actually harm their effectiveness. Put it on any bit of glass the wipers can’t reach.
It gradually wears off until its effect disappears entirely. For me, the front and rear coating lasted about a week, and the other bits about 3 weeks. I re-apply it whenever it does, taking care to make sure the glass is clean first. That 200 ml goes a very long way, you barely have to use a squirt or two even for a whole application. It has now become an indispensable part of my motoring: in fact I wonder what would have happened through all these named storms in 2015 over my very long commute if I didn’t have the visibility it gave me. I wouldn’t go as far as say I’m still alive because of it, but I’m surely a lot less stressed.
