IT LIGHTS UP – What more do I need to say 🙂

It works well and is also very well built like the original official PS4 controller.

It has a really nice RGB lighting all around the outside of the controller that can also be turned off to preserve some battery life. I do like it on though.

All the buttons and triggers are tactile and there is no difference in Lag at least from what I can tell from the original controller.

Not sure if its just because my console and controllers are day 1 editions and so the battery life on those are not as good anymore but it seems like this Rii Wireless Controller last much much longer than those.

I’m really happy with it – I’ve not tried it on any other consoles or PC yet so cant say what that experience is like but for PS4 its Ace

Bought as a gift for Christmas for son, he absolutely loves that it lights up, he gave a 100% all round review on it, just what he needs when using on his ps4 and great to steer his race cars on grand tourismo, sensetive as he likes it.

I’ve used various game controllers for over twenty years, and all things considered, this is my favourite one.

I have large hands, and this controller feels so comfortable to me. I like how it looks. When the controller is off, the lines where the streaks of colour appear are dark grey, which I think looks neat. I also like how it feels – just the right balance between feeling smooth versus being easy to grip. It feels solid, with high-quality plastic, but not overly heavy. I don’t want a heavy controller when I’m gaming for hours! I found the controls to be very precise. And there was no button sticking at all.

The controller looks great when it’s all lit up, with bright colours in motion. The battery life is good. I get several gaming sessions from one charge.

The user manual was a bit lacking, though one thing I do like about it is that the text is reasonably large. So many manuals for devices these days come with tiny text that I can’t read!

I couldn’t see in the manual how to turn the controller off. You have to hold down the Home (PS) button for about ten seconds, which seems quite a long time to have to hold it down for.

I’m using the controller on a PC running Windows 11, and I found the manual confusing on how to connect to Bluetooth. It said that to enter pairing mode, hold the “Share” + “PS” buttons, but being a Windows user and not owning a PS4, I had no idea which buttons those were. The diagram in the user manual seems to have the “PS” button labelled as “Home”, and the “Share” button labelled as “Start”.

All the games I play are on Steam. I found that although my PC recognised the controller, some of my older Steam games, like Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing, wouldn’t recognise the controller. Some of the newer games were fine.

To get the controller to work with my older games, I installed DS4Windows, which tricks the computer into thinking the controller is an Xbox gamepad. I was then able to use the controller with games like Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing.

Although the manual could be better, I love how this controller looks, feels, and performs, so for that reason, I’ve giving it five stars.

This controller was very good, and yet it threw a few spanners in the works for me.

Importantly; the controller feels solid enough and the button and sticks response is perfectly good. The controller is dimensionally spot on when compared to an original controller.

The set up is the same as any other PS4 controller; just connect via cable and once connected it will work as a wireless controller and turn the PS4 on/off from the home button. It is also suitable for PC and is paired, again, in the same way as an original controller; by holding the home button for approximately five seconds to enter pairing mode etc.

There a few subtle differences, which is common for aftermarket controllers. In this case the shape of the “arms” is slightly “edged” on the top inside and the underside has little indents for fingers. But basically it is the same as a standard controller. It also has led lighting and rather than the four small lights to indicate which number the controller is when paired to the PS4; the led’s will be a different colour for each different controller in use (up to four controllers).

I tested the controller (on GoW this time) and it worked perfectly. It was comfortable in the hand and whilst it didn’t quite feel the same as an official controller to me; it did feel of a sufficiently high quality and the buttons all felt good.

The little things I did not like were the led’s couldn’t be turned off or change the theme. The controller just flashed the whole time which drove me mad. The instructions were rudimentary and gave no instruction whatsoever regarding the led’s. The charging point was, like an original PS4 controller, a micro-usb. I found this to be disappointing seeing as many new aftermarket PS4 controllers are now usb-c, which is a much better option in my opinion. I didn’t like the sharp edge that I mentioned earlier, but this didn’t affect it at all so I think I am just being picky with that.

The price was reasonable in my opinion for the device but only if you can get over the constantly flashing led’s on the controller. Every other controller I have which have led’s give clear instructions how to change or turn them off and the fact that this controller doesn’t (which is not to say you can’t; just that there is no instruction to tell you how if it is possible) is very poor.

That aside, this did function well and is quite a cool looking thing (when it is switched off lol).

I included a picture alongside an original controller for visual comparison.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well.
