Love i
Just started reading and am aiming for .y first early morning mindfulness session tomorrow because of the way it has instantly inspired me. It’s written in such a relatable tone without being preachy or condescending. Highly recommend.
I’ve always been a little sceptical of this kind of product. With self care becoming more of a trend than a genuine way of life, there are so many journals, books and self help guides out there, it’s hard to know what’s helpful and what’s just another fad.
At a very difficult time in my life The 6-Minute Diary has quickly become a fundamental part of my day. It is a little pricey, but it’s also beautifully made, which makes holding and writing in it an absolute pleasure. It’s full of tips and directions to help you get the most out of it. It really does only take a few minutes of your time in the morning and the evening, so it’s easy to fit into even the busiest of days. The guided entry’s are very simple questions, so I don’t ever struggle to fill them in, but they do genuinely help you to reflect on what you want to get out of each day and how you could improve.
In a couple of weeks of completing this diary, alongside some short guided meditations first thing in the morning, I have seen a huge shift in my mood and my behaviour. Setting targets for myself at the start of each day gives me focus and reminding myself of what I am grateful for gives me a positive outlook from the very start of the day.
I don’t usually write such long reviews! But if you are sitting on the fence as to whether to buy this book (especially with the hefty price tag!) I would urge you to go for it! It’s definitely worth the extra few s!
Great for trying to build your motivatio
I’m a SAHM with 2 littles and days often feel monotonous with no motivation to get things done or improve the day to day running of the house and parenting. This 6 minute diary is great because it’s quick to fill in, gets you thinking about how you can improve your productivity and motivation as well as focus on and work toward goals. If you’re like me and never know what to write in a blank diary then this one is for you with lots of great writing prompts and broken into short questions that really get you thinking about how to make your day great.
This was a gift to another.
I’ve used the Clear Journal (Baron Fig) by James Clear and it’s also excellent. I recommend you also give it a try. Personally, however, though I’ve recently started using the 6MD, I prefer it. I find it is structured in a way that favours consistency and ease of use and tracking.
Both journals have their place and I recommend anyone interested and even uninitiated to give each a try, one after the other; experiment and see which one suits you best.
There’s a significant preface component, briefing you on the research science and wisdom behind 6MD, but it’s worth reading and will help set your ‘mental stage’ and orient you towards how to get the most use and value from your journal!
So far, I love it and the first weekly exercise was unexpectedly profound. I look forward to using it each day.
Best of luck on your process!
I have noticed a massive difference journaling (just for 5 minutes) each day.
Having tried a few different ones, this is always the journal I return to. The questions are great & keep me mindful of what I want to focus on each day.
There is daily, weekly & monthly questions. The monthly ones I tend to ignore as it takes a bit too much time to answer all of the questions (daily, weekly & monthly) in one day when they all come up.
But that is the beauty of this journal, you can take from it what you need & leave the rest.
I’ve only been using this journal for a week and already seeing the huge positive impact it is having on me and my outlook to life. As it’s been said by others so often, gratitude is the antidote to negative emotions and this journal asks you to start your day by listing 3 things to be thankful for, ways you will improve your day, and a positive affirmation. I find myself looking forward in the morning to writing my entries as well as reflecting on the day with a few notes before going to bed. This Pure version doesn’t contain the 60+ or so pages noted by others providing detailed explanations on how to utilise the journal, but instead a much abridged version which is helpful guidance. I am loving this journal and would highly recommend to anyone looking to enhance / complement their mindfulness journey.
Absolutely love i
I love my 6min diary. It literally is 6min & helps set me for my day & then reflection at night. Instructions & ways to use it are helpful. The layout is gorgeous. Just love it. I have even bought for friends.
Its worth it...
I had looked at lots of different journals, I just wanted something simple to start with. This one was a bit more expensive than some of the others but I’m so glad I bought this one. Its great quality, so simple to use and I already feel that I’m making positive changes and choices in my life, guided by my journal. Thank you.
When this diary first arrived I was initially a little disappointed at the size (I thought it would be slightly bigger). However, since then I have come to love this little book. In the past I have not been very diligent with journalling, and when I purchased this I didn’t think I would write in it daily. However, I genuinely look forward to writing in this every morning and evening and keep it next to my bed. It brings me so much joy and comes with lots of lovely information and tips. I was initially a little concerned that the linen cover would get dirty quite quickly, however then I read page 8 and fell in love with my little diary all over again (you’ll see!). Would highly recommend as a gift to either yourself or a loved one
This book is brilliant, I’ve been writing in a journal for sometime, but I ended up using a note book where I started to lose structure in my writing and start to be a bit negative. This book as focused me on positivity. There’s great tips, challenges, reviews along the way. I’ll definitely buy another when I’m finished with this one
The perfect thing for someone wanting to be a bit more greatful
This would make an amazing gift or a gift for someone who needs a little perspective. The daily AM and PM reflections are a wonderful start and decompress to the begining and end of your day. The weekly wrap up allows you too see how your emotions, thoughts and feelings have changed over the past weeks and the challenges are fun ways to reconnect with yourself.
This journal changed my whole outlook on life and the way I used to think. It doesn’t take much of my time each day, only 3 minutes in the morning and 3 minutes at night. I am so much more grateful for the good things around me now.. I used to be so negative and sad all the time, but now I’m positive and I try to see the positive in situations, rather than the negative. It really changed my life
Best Journal So Fa
I scouted around for the right journal for ages before finding this. Lots of journals expect too much to be written or have guided questions that are difficult to answer. This one is perfect for me, which means I have kept up the daily routine. I’m also all for supporting a smaller publishing house – it feels right on a purchase like this.
Good follow up
My daughter gifted me The Six Minute Diary for Christmas. I bought the Pure version as it is a follow up and I had found the original to be a good way to focus my thoughts on what I appreciate and want. They have genuinely changed the way I view the passing of time.
A Must Have
After completing the 6 Minute Diary, I just had to have this follow on version. It was the 6 Minute Diary that encouraged me to find forgiveness in my heart for a situation that had been affecting my life. Digging deep for that forgiveness has enriched my life so the Pure was a must for me.
worth the cos
Yes this is an expensive diary. And yes it is worth every penny. As a girl who’s been using this book through the whole of the lockdowns of the last year I would say this book was the best purchase I made all year. I genuinely notice I have worse, less happy days on days that I forget to fill out this diary first thing in the morning.
A vital companio
Really enjoyed the 6-min diary and wanted to continue my journey. This daily practice has allowed me to carve out a precious morning routine and bring peace to my world. It is a little pricey for a follow on book which we essentially complete ourselves but I have accepted it as an investment in myself and my future.
Help for self-reflection and an increased appreciation of the good things in life
I got a lot out of the first volume of The 6-Minute Diary. It helped me, a natural pessimist, to take stock of and appreciate the good things in life just by asking me a few simple (and yes, repetitive) questions every single day, with a weekly set of deeper questions that ultimately helped me think about what was important in life to me. This second volume is useful for keeping that positivity and gratitude going. I gave it only 4 stars because the weekly reflection, which I used to find sometimes challenging but definitely enlightening, has been replaced by a ‘lighter’ version, although I can see that it is still useful. Overall I have found that creating the habit of thinking about the positives in life, however small, has been really beneficial for me.
A brilliant way to build gratitude and laser focus
I love these diaries. I am on my second diary and find them incredibly helpful to not only take time to appreciate and be grateful but to focus on what needs to be done. I’ve never kept up a diary but I have managed to maintain these diaries and for me, I think it’s the structure and limited time it takes to do that has been so successful for me. I also recommend the diaries to my coaching clients and they have all really loved them too.
I bought this to go with a couple of books for my children (the 5 minute diary for the eldest and the 3 minute one for the younger child)… My initial objective was to get them to be grateful for their dinner… even if it’s NOT chicken nuggets… be grateful you have food, you have warmth, you have comfort, even if the dinner had REAL chicken in it, as well as mushrooms!!! … and that seemed to work, we got over that, not entirely of course, but a lesson has been learned (somewhat) in that department…
The unexpected by product of this experience however, is that THIS book grabbed my attention… it’s not ‘just’ a gratitude journal which you write stuff down, it’s the preamble, it’s the all the information up front – the bit about why you’re doing it in the first place…
That’s what hooked me…
And then practicing the ritual with my daughters each day.
And at first, it was clutching at the obvious; grateful for food, water, clothes, warmth
But then something started to change, unexpectedly so… I started to dig deeper and feel more positive…
My gratitude now involves; realising my self worth and what I mean to my children, recognising what we have, not what we don’t, grateful for opportunities and more meaningful, deeper reflection when it comes to positive affirmations….and one of my good deeds today, was simply ‘Acceptance’… and ‘Acceptance with grace’…
I love this book.
I have recommended and even bought copies for friends and colleagues…
I am more positive, more energised, more determined and dare I say happier in myself… I didn’t even realise I needed changing, my days had been focused on other people and things and work and jobs which needed doing, that I forgot myself along the way. But I’m back now… and it feels great 🙂
I absolutely love this product. I started with the Six Minute Diary but was rather half-hearted about it – thinking it couldn’t possibly be just six minutes a day… but it arrived and I filled it in that day … and the next day… and the next day…
I loved the daily quotes/affirmations; I loved the fact that the statements/questions are simple and straightforward and didn’t make it feel like an exam or that there was a “wrong answer”. I just love it.
So much that as I filled it in one day.. then the next… then the next… I came to the end of it. I was delighted and disappointed all at the same time… so I immediately ordered the Six Minute Diary Plus… and am very much looking to not only continuing my morning and evening “journalling” (which has improved my focus on my life, my goals, what I will accept and what is unacceptable to me) and I have high hopes that “Plus” will allow me to continue to start and end each day in a positive, productive, pro-active mindset – which has had a massive beneficial impact on so many other aspects of my life.
I’m going to end here because I know I’m beginning to sound evangelical about it… but I really can’t recommend it highly enough. Buy it and tell yourself “I’ll give it my best shot for a week”… don’t look at the whole book and think I’ll never get to the end… just tell yourself “seven days”. That’s what I did… but the first seven days were followed by the second seven days.. then the third … and the fourth… and … on those days where I couldn’t fill it in first thing (with a cup of coffee in bed) … I missed it. My day didn’t “start right”… and on those rare occasions where I couldn’t end my day positively reflecting on all the good things that had happened… I went to sleep with my heart that little bit less content .. and I couldn’t hear my soul singing the lullaby that the diary created every evening.
Buy it. Try it. I hope, like me, you’ll love it.
A Stunning Product!
The 6-Minute Diary really is a diamond. I have and will continue to recommend this beautiful, well written and thought-provoking book to everyone. In today’s society where pressures are high, life seems to be the better of so many of us. Taken seriously, this fantastic diary helps you reflect and move forward in all of the positive areas of your life. Everything from the weekly challenges to the monthly review has been designed with great care.
I have sampled many products focused on self-development, always searching for the one that resonated with me and the 6-Minute Diary hits all of the criteria needed to take you from where you are now to where you want to be. The simple format works perfectly for any individual in any situation leading any life. There is always something to learn here.
After completing the first diary, my partner and I are now working through The Follow-Up Version. We will continue to follow the path laid out by the author, Dominik Spenst, and enjoy and appreciate the changes our lives now have because of his hard work.
Life changing excellence.
I would just like to thank you for creating such a wonderful diary.
My father passed at the start of this year and this book, it’s rituals and the introduction of a good habit each day has had a remarkable impact on my life, but also on my young family and friends.
I plan to introduce more friends at work and in all connections in my life to this wonderful book and to improve their daily happiness and wellbeing.
I send my very best to the Urbestself team for providing such a wonderful product and also for the way in which you conduct yourself shows the enriched culture the business has developed. You are most certainly improving the health and wellbeing of many people and I’ll do my utmost to share this diary to those around me.
My very best wishes and kind regards,
Rob
Pricey but worth i
I couldn’t decide on buying this for ages as it was more than I wanted to pay for a diary, but I really wanted an easy way to record and reflect on my day so as to not go to bed feeling stressed or negative. I’ve been using this now for about a week, and it really is easy as can be and has definitely made me feel more positive. I really like the section ‘what can i do today to make it great’ which helps me actually focus on what’s important in the day whether it’s part of work or my personal life.
it is expensive, but if you want something that convenient to do and easy to write in it’s worth every penny.
I have been using the 6-minute diary for nearly two years and am into my fourth now. It has become a part of my life that I would not miss and that I really enjoy topping and tailing my day with. I love the weekly reviews and being able to see the patterns of how I am living, growing and learning, and the choices that this brings. Recently I have wanted to write more than usual and I have taken to writing all over the book now, in various gaps and nooks and crannies and it is lovely to look over it sometimes and see what has been in the foreground over the months. The thing you never know with changing habits are the ‘unintended consequences’ and it is my experience that since building the 6-minute diary into my life, my entire experience of mornings and evenings has changed for the better. Highly recommended!
I have had this diary for a week and the results of it have been amazing. It’s gradually altered my mindset over the past week. I feel much more positive and I have become so much more productive! It also comes with the e-book ‘the golden evening routine’ which had some very good suggestions that made me concentrate more on important decisions throughout the day rather than things that don’t really matter during the morning. As a result, I’m finding myself less exhausted in the evening. Every day I have completed all the important tasks I have set myself giving me more time to myself and to spend with others. The quality of the diary is brilliant, with a nice hardcover and thick pages. I love the layout, the quotes, and the week’s challenge. Who knew 6mins per day could make such a difference!
This is the follow on book from the 6 min diary. And it literally takes 6 mins a day!… 3 in the morning and three at night.
I bought this after my husband got the 6 minute diary of which I read the introduction… this was full of useful information as to why the author devised the book as he has, backing his reasons with scientific/psychological research.
This ‘6 minute diary – pure’ is the same as the ‘diary part’ of the original 6 min diary. It has the same easy to use layout and is full of inspirational quotes. It continues to guide you through the process of compassionate self reflection, development of gratitude and a positive approach to life, with the aim of reaching your true potential. Well presented, easy to read and simple to use… great product. I would highly recommend.
Brilliant!
This diary is quite brilliant. It is a simple, quick way to help me think about my day and the good things in it. The prompts are useful and help me to stay on subject. The six minute time-frame is very useful, I have time/energy to fill it in daily. I really like the prompt asking about good deeds done for the day, it has focused me more to think about more inventive ways of being useful to others. I can only hope this diary will be continued to be published for years to come, because I am sure I will be returning to by a second (and third) when I have finished.
Just grea
Take something amazing like the 5 Minute Journal, add German thoughtfulness, ingenuity and craftsmanship and you have the 6 Minute Diary. I have used the 5 minute journal for a couple of years but was finding it expensive to ship in from North America so looked for an alternative….and found this. I just love it. It is way better than the other because the positive psychology behind why the diary works, how to get the most out of it…and more importantly not only includes more useful daily questions, but has a weekly check in as well. I really love this and it will continue to be my go to daily journal.
I bought the original 6 minute journal this time last year, and quickly got into the daily habit. It’s great that it doesn’t take long, so I could fit it into my busy working-parent life. The quotes, questions and weekly reflections were often really thought provoking and over the past year massively helped me to make quite life changing decisions (like relocating halfway across the country to live by the seaside!) This is a journal that can fit into anyone’s life and really does help you to create your best life and best self. I fell out of the habit during our move, but have treated myself to the Pure version to get into again as we start 2019. I thought that it was a bit pricey when I first ordered it last year, but really it’s worth it I’d say. I also emailed the team who made this to find out when the Pure version was coming out and got a lovely, personal, reply – it’s nice to know that it’s real people, and real nice people, behind it all. PLUS you get a free e-book emailed to you when you buy about the Golden Evening Routine. Nothing to lose, everything to gain xxx
I run a small advertising school in London (SCA) and I feel strongly that it is as important to introduce students to the practice of positive behavioural traits as it is to teach strategy or craft. Sadly, most young adults leave secondary school, college or university never having been taught time management skills, mindfulness techniques such as the power of gratitude, or self-reflection.
I bought 42 copies of the 6-Minute Diary in the sale. I am lucky that I have full control over my teaching budget, so I can do this without needing to convince layers of management. All I need to do is convince my students that they should invest a tiny amount of their time each day to achieve the ambitious goals that I have set them. If you are reading this review then you are possibly already convinced in the benefits of this great book.
I used to buy a much more expensive version of this book – same concept, different publisher. But this is just as good. Don’t waste extra money buying something twice the price. It’s very well made, and the value comes from within you.
