EVOLUTION BLURAY from 88 FILMS RELEASED 22 APRIL 2024
Amazon have somehow placed thousands of reviews for the FILM under this 88 FILMS BLURAY RELEASED 22 April 2024. It is very confusing. So this review is defiunitely for the 88 release. The BLURAY is excellent quality. Bright colours, mint picture, excellent sound and good optional English Subtitles. Low on extras if you are hoping for them. The film?? When I first saw it years ago I loved every part of it. I fell in love with Julianne Moore (still am). Duchovny was a good lead, and the SFX/CGI were impressive, particularly a spectacular final 30 minutes. Good villainy from Ted levine and the support cast. However….This is a personal opinion and should have no effect on your choice of whether to buy – First the character played by Orlando Jones – Could/would that work in any film made today?. The one liners, attitude and smart cracks just didn’t work some 25 years later. Then Seann William Scott as a gung ho would be firefighter. Plenty of scope here, but he mostly comes over as intensly annoying! Like I said this is just me, not a fact. Overall I think the film still works remarkably well, gooey, yucky moments, humour (mainly from Moore) and a climax that makes it all worth the wait. Will watch again in 3 – 4 years. Not cheap but the BLURAY quality and the film itself make for 102 minutes of fun (if you can overlook the performences of Jones and Scott!!)

    Funny, underrated, better than expected
I somehow have a feeling that this movie is just a very long shampoo advertisement, But I am not complaining, it made me laugh, and overall it was actually pretty enjoyable.

An Early 2000s Sci-Fi Movie That Has Aged Like Fine Wine
Released in 2001, Evolution was a film I loved as a child and returning to it as an adult 20 years later, I’ve found it has aged like a fine wine. This is a great popcorn movie with a solid plot, amazing set and practical creature effects, likeable characters whose chemistry is believable, a number of fun gags and jokes; including a few adult jokes which escaped my attention back in the day, plus a few blink and you miss them subtle social commentary notes that still hold relevance. The CGI is showing its age but you get worse in present day cheap horror movies ironically. Likewise the shampoo product placement feels relevant to the plot rather than just thrown in randomly. All in all, Evolution is well worth watching. For a 2001 sci-fi horror offering, it’s way above the average grade for the decade.

Hollywood aliens vs army vs 'if only they'd listened' scientists with a comic vei
So basically same old aliens are a threat to the Very Existence Of The Human Race and the army are bumbling fools and the guy out of X Files is head scientist and the saviour of the human race or perhaps it’s his annoying sidekick or maybe it’s that comedian guy who is for once pretty much the least annoying character in this film for once – it’s definitely not the love interest who’s comedy moment is falling over occasionally…so yeah a bit cringey at times but good fun and nice squelchy aliens (when they get taken out…) so there ya go

    Enjoyable fluff
Always a fun film to watch. I saw it this time with a teen who isn’t particularly a film fan and has never seen this one, and he thoroughly enjoyed it too. The plot stands up to no scrutiny whatsoever, but the cast is excellent, the laughs are plentiful and as a Saturday evening family movie, it can’t be beat.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBrilliant Fun Sci-fi Comedy
This a really fun easy to watch sci-fi comedy that hasn’t aged badly at all considering it’s 8 or 9 years old now. Following a meteorite crashing to earth (and interrupting/nearly squashing wacky Sean Wiillian Scott who is practicing his fire-rescue skills in the middle of the Arizona desert) two college professors investigate the site of the crash. Played by David Duchovny and Orlando Jones (who make a great double act) they discover space worms that have landed with the meteorite before the area is shut down by the government. This begins their Men In Black style investigation as the space worms begin to evolve into all kinds of wacky creatures causing havoc on their new planet as they multiply and take over. Julianne Moore then joins them in the fun and together with the rest of the cast they all have a pretty silly and fun time trying to defeat the monsters from space. The film is a bit tongue in cheek but not annoyingly so and there’s still a decent sci-fi film underneath which makes for a good fun, family watch.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFun action comedy, grossly underrated
Men In Black meets the Ghostbusters in this unfairly maligned action comedy. If you enjoyed either of those two films, you will find much to enjoy in this and whilst the beats have very strong symmetry to Ghostbusters (the discovery, the first bust, arguing with the mayor and the end resulting in them being covered in ooze are the first 4 direct references that spring to mind) it’s not like anyone was hiding what they were doing – they got Dan Aykroyd in after all.

It was always meant to be a Ghostbusters for a new generation and it succeeds about as well as anyone could hope for in that. Certainly better than “lets just do Ghostbusters again but this time with women and not funny”

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersUnderrated sci-fi comedy
This is, in my opinion, an underrated sci-fi comedy. Very funny with great special-effects. David Duchovny (chosen, no doubt for his ‘X-Files’ experience, was a delightful surprise) & Orlando Jones was a gem -with great comedic timing. Highly recommended!

If you liked GALAXY QUEST, you’ll more than likely like EVOLUTION.

    I love this film
I love this film. David Duchovny is great and during a part of the film he explains that the government can’t be trusted and he would know having worked with them previously. I like to think back to his days on ‘X Files’ at that point.

The film is very light hearted and funny and definitely worth watching. There is a great extra at the end of the movie with the male stars of the film too just before it finishes.

    (R)Evolution and a head & shoulders enema
Probably one of the funniest Amrerican films out there despite Amazon’s own overview of the content, Duchovney (best known for X-Files) is pretty epic in this as are the rest of the caste. This is one film I am happy to watch again. It is a “disengage brain” film so don’t expect deep dialogue, it’s the perfect chill out and chuckle movie

    Evolution's a BITCH!
Most films have a way with one liners at the right moments, but this one really does take the biscuit! I love this film…from the opening scene i was constantly falling out of my seat in fits of laughter.

Firstly i have to add the story is wonderfully simple, to the point and does exactly what it sets out to do…entertain.
the chemistry of the actors involved in this is just as good as ‘Ghostbusters’, maybe a little unorthodox but it works so well its like a bar of warm soap on a sponge. The standout alone is so much the lightheartedness of the tone of the film which obviously given the PG rating makes it appealing to all of the family.
The acting is top draw, with as i said before, brilliantly timed quirky moments from all actors especially Orlando Jones, who in my opinion steals the show. All in all i fully recommend this to those who have not seen this movie.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLubricant and the giant product placement.
A meteorite falls to Earth and lands right in the desert at Glen Canyon, Arizona. Two college professors, Dr. Ira Kane and Prof. Harry Phineas Block, take it upon themselves to investigate and mooch around. At the site, they discover worm like insects that are not of this world. Thinking they are on to Nobel Prize type history, they are dismayed when the government takes over the site and shunts them out the way. But as the insects start to evolve in the Earth atmosphere, they take on various shapes and forms of alien creatures. Pretty soon the whole place is over run and the government is at a loss in how to stop them. Enter Ira, Harry, Wayne and Allison to hopefully save the day.

Directed by Ivan Reitman {Ghostbusters 1 & 2}, Evolution is a zany sci-fi comedy that achieves firmly what it sets out to do. Using the available special effects for great rewards, and lashing it in Technicolor, all that remained was to have a cast happy to be in on the joke itself. Up step David Duchovny {revelling in none serious X Files malarkey}, Orlando Jones {getting all the best lines}, Julianne Moore {accident prone} and Sean Wiillian Scott {goofball fireman wannabe}. Backed up by Ted Levine, Dan Ackroyd, Ethan Suplee and Ty Burrell, Evolution is well served right across the cast. Of course they aren’t asked to do anything special, but it’s not that kind of film. There’s enough here for all the family to enjoy, kids will be awed by the array of alien creatures, whilst the adults should be chuckling away at some of the jokes.

If you are expecting real science then you have come to the wrong place, Evolution parodies the sci-fi parodies, and then some. 7/10

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMuch more fun than its reputation suggests
Evolution is a lot more fun that its busted summer would-be blockbuster status implies, although like most Ivan Reitman comedies the concept is funnier than the script. For the first half David Duchovny and Orlando Jones have more exposition than jokes to deal with and Julianne Moore is game but is no natural comedienne, especially when it comes to pratfalls, while Ted Levine’s clichd general is a villain too far. But once it hits its stride and the constantly evolving critters that are the real stars of the show start multiplying and threatening mankind with extinction, it’s an enjoyable monster mash that even manages to make a joke of its product placement for Head and Shoulders. Like the aliens it’s no world-beater, but it’s a brisk and enjoyable romp. Nice score from John Powell too.

While DreamWorks US NTSC DVD has a good selection of extras, including audio commentary, deleted scenes and alternate ending, the UK DVD comes up short on extras, with just a making of featurette and trailers .

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGreat Idea, Poor Delivery
A great film. The idea on which the film is based is extremely well thought out and interesting however the film was not delivered perfectly. A rock from space arrives on the earth and the one cell organisms which are discovered on it evolve at an astonishing rate. However the acting in this film isn’t great and it lets it down, the ending is extremely annoying and doesn’t leave much room for a sequel. Despite all this the theme keeps you interested if only to see how the aliens evolve and this gives it 4 stars.
Overall the film is very much underated and perhaps should have been recognised a bit more for the great idea it is based on. Don’t buy it if you’re after a blockbuster hit with great actors, special fx or other such things.
