Versatile and Reliable Quick Release Plate Ki
The Neewer 120mm Tripod Quick Release Plate & Clamp Kit has been an essential addition to my photography gear, offering compatibility and functionality for a variety of camera setups.
Firstly, the build quality is excellent. The kit includes a sturdy 120mm quick release plate and a reliable clamp that securely attaches to tripod heads and gimbals. The materials feel durable and well-made, providing peace of mind during use.
Compatibility is a standout feature of this kit. It is designed to work seamlessly with Manfrotto 501 and 502 tripod heads, as well as DJI gimbals QR plates. This versatility allows me to use the kit across different camera setups, ensuring consistent and reliable mounting solutions.
The dual-mode capability is particularly useful. The 50mm heavy big cinema camera quick release mount adapter provides flexibility in mounting larger and heavier cameras or cinema rigs. It offers a secure grip and stability, essential for professional videography and photography projects.
The setup process is straightforward. The quick release system allows for easy and quick attachment and removal of cameras, saving time during shoots or equipment changes. The clamp mechanism operates smoothly and securely, ensuring that the camera remains stable during use.
Overall, the Neewer 120mm Tripod Quick Release Plate & Clamp Kit is an excellent choice for photographers and videographers seeking a reliable and versatile mounting solution. It combines robust construction, compatibility with various equipment, and ease of use, making it a valuable tool in any photographer’s toolkit.
Strong grip on the plate. Heavy and needs a good grip to actuate.
This quick release plate kit for the Manfrotto style 501 plates is heavily constructed. That was my first impression – heavy. Once it is mounted where it belongs I double that will be an issue. They designed in a very strong spring mechanism which requires an effort to apply. When you push in a plate that final fraction of distance, it slams shut hard and tight, like a rat trap. Equally, to move the chrome lever to the left to free the plate (or ‘set the trap’), you need to apply a good squeeze to get it all the way over to the fixed stop where it engages under tension.
The underside has enough threaded holes to allow most conceivable attachment scenarios. I didn’t want to disassemble my good video tripod head to see how this compares so I didn’t get a complete sense of how it performs on location. For a serious videography setup this part of the system most probably won’t be a weak point at all.
The included printed notes illustrate the components and the lock and release features. Before reading those I just dove in and played with it for a few minutes to sort out what it does. Primarily it is advisable to be using the square, ridged lock slider for securing a mounted camera from unexpectedly sliding out of the base.
Depending on the exact style of 501 plate used, a plate like the included one can slide out completely to the front direction (what I’m calling the left on my photos). The included plate will slide out completely in that direction if the base is in the half-locked state. The other style of 501 plate that I have been using on my systems has extra catch points on the underside and those do not slide out in either direction. For those I have to fully release all functions of this base so the spring loaded catch lip has opened, then lift out the camera/plate upwards from the base.
It is possible to adjust your rig’s position for tilt balance (fore and aft) and I’d have a good grip on the camera while doing that which is standard procedure anyway.
I do not use anything with a RS2 plate so I cannot comment on the fit of those.
The video is not a full demonstration of all the functions, just illustrating a few basics.
I recently tried on this NEEWER 120mm tripod quick release plate & clamp Kit, and it has been a great upgrade to my photography setup. Really love its dual-mode switching between gimbal and tripod which is incredibly convenient, allowing me to transition seamlessly between different shooting setups. Also love its toggle buckle and safety lock which make mounting my camera super quick and secure. Its front and back fine adjustment feature with scale markings and a bubble level help ensure precise camera positioning, and its high-strength anodized aluminum alloy construction feels sturdy and dependable, easily supporting my heavy DSLR cameras without any wobble. It does take me a little time to get used to the locking mechanism, but once I got the hang of it, it became second nature. Overall, this quick release system has greatly improved my efficiency and stability during shoots.

This is a fantastic tripod quick release plate from NEEWER. With bubble level and measurements
This is a high end quick release plate for larger style DSLR and compact video cameras from NEEWER. With a bubble level, granular measurement control and quick snap clamping mechanism this might be just what you’ve been looking for.
The build:
I’ve said it many times before and I will say it again. NEEWER is a great company that brings higher end products to the masses. Their pedigree does not disappoint with this offering. With high end metallic molds with soft beveled edges. Finished in a mat black anodized coating, this feels vary sturdy and professional. All screws are finished in a nice chrome style adding to the overall look. The measurements stand out with their white finish contrasting nicely. This also applies to the lime green bubble level that is easily viewable at a glance. The clamp feels tight and closes shut with good force. Once closed you need to be careful when opening the release mechanism. It opens with the same force applied when closing. This means you might get you’re fingers pinched if held incorrectly. So vigilance is required when using this product.
Compatibility:
Compatible with Manfrotto quick release plates 501 502 DJI RS Series RS2 RSC2 RS3 RS3 Pro handheld gimbal stabilizers (or most plates 49.5″/50mm wide)
Supports:
supports professional cinema camera, video camera, camcorder, and DSLR camera via a 1/4″ or 3/8″ screw
Final thoughts:
With great build quality and good ergonomics. This high strength quick release tripod mount. For higher end video production equipment. Is an easy buy at it’s great price point. It offers many of the same great features that other compatriots boast at a fraction of the price. 5 out of 5
Solider Schnellverschluss
I've been using some Neewer accessories in the past couple of months, and this one kept the same good quality I've seen in their lineup. It's very durable and well built, comes in handy as a quick release, so I ended up getting a couple more to use with my other cameras and make the whole work process easier and more efficient. Pretty good!

plate and clamp are very solid, good mechanisms, versatile. Lock sometimes does not lock ope
PROS
-super solid
-useful adjustment for both Manfrotto plates and DJI plates
-I’m quite confident that this can hold a reasonably large cinema camera
-underside has 3 different mounting options, lots of versatility
-included plate is well marked, and well machined
CONS
-when the safety lock is unlocked, the unlock tab _usually_ can be pulled back and it locks into place in the open position. But occasionally it does not, so be sure to note this when using this bit of kit.
-quite heavy (but, as it’s likely going to be used on a solid video camera tripod, this isn’t an issue)
-bubble level is absolutely tiny, so small that the bubble won’t leave the wall of the enclosure (some sort of Bernoulli or electro-static adhesion), making it useless
NOTES
-typical Neewer quality (they can be hit and miss, but mostly hit, and this is very much a hit)
-strangely, this comes with two manuals: one well illustrated and written in English and Chinese, and one with teeny tiny text and no illustrations (but in multiple languages)
-I’ve been using this with a heavy duty camera tripod and Nikon with lenses up to 500mm, any vibration is definitely not due to this plate.
MY STAR RATINGS:
1* substandard, mostly cons
2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros
3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros
4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons
5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros
essential tool
This kit sets a new standard in compatibility, precision, and reliability for quick release systems. Designed to be compatible with Manfrotto 501, 502, DJI gimbals, and a range of fluid head systems, it provides a seamless fit for various camera setups. This broad compatibility ensures its versatility across different equipment, making it an essential accessory for professional filmmakers and cinematographers. Its dual – mode functionality between a 120mm tripod plate and a 50mm heavy cinema camera plate adapter demonstrates its adaptability for different – sized cameras and gimbals. This versatility allows for effortless transitions between equipment, providing stability and confidence during shoots. The robust build quality of the plate and clamp inspires confidence in its durability and reliability. The ease of use and smooth operation of the quick release system further enhance its value.
A solid heavy duty piece of kit, a lot heavier than expected
The shoe comes with a 1/4-20 UNC and 3/8-16 UNC screws which can slide along the shoe and if your setup supports multiple tripod screws, you could use multiple at a time to secure a stronger hold.
The shoe holds onto my apo refractor telescope with all the bells and whistles without any fear of the telescope coming loose or tipping, solid as a rock as my telescope supports 2 shoe screws so i used both at the same time, the whole rig was about 8kg.
The base has a push latch to quickly release your equipment with a second switch to lock it in place, the switch works well but was a bit of a struggle at first, after a several uses, its now loosened up.
The one thing to note when the clamp is when in release mode, the shoe slides forward and catches to prevent the equipment from sliding off forwards but this isn’t true for when the shoe slides backwards and has the potential to make your rig slide off the tripod if not held level, this is the first time i have encountered this type of quick release as all my tripod heads expand from the side to release the equipment.
The clamp comes with a Alan key fitted to tighten up any loose screws, though i have yet to use it because the tripod quick release plate and clamp are built like a tank. What you get is a premium quality product that can compete with quick release plates and clamp sold by more expensive companies for much less cost.
Heavy duty full metal for heavy gea
This is the only quick release mount I trust with my Canon EOS R paired with the 70-200mm f/4 lens, quick snap into place and one hand release the plate from the mount for hand held. Slider allow fine adjustment of position and help to balance the front heavy lens on tripod, no flex or wobble!
Feature packed for a quick release plate
Lots of features in this plate that I appreciate. It has the safety lock switch to make sure the lever doesn’t accidentally loosen. The numbers on the plate itself are great to help quickly get the same position each time you remove it. There’s an area to store a hex key so you don’t have to go hunting for one in your camera bag. It even has a compatibility switch so it can work with either a Manfrotto QR plate or with a RS2 or RS3 gimbal.
The build quality is very nice also and feels well built. So far it works well switching between my video tripod and a gimbal.
Heavy duty quick release for heavier cameras and gea
This is a well made, sturdy, heavy, quick release plate and clamp.
Due to the significant weight and size, it’s more suitable for larger rigs, such as video cameras, camcorders, etc.
The only complaint I have is with the lever. The force required for engaging the lever for locking, unlocking is not even. It requires a strong force and then it quickly snaps to lock/unlock. The sequence of strong resistance -> strong push -> quick snap without resistance, can cause some injuries to the hand if not careful.
Impressive Quality Quick Release Plate
Impressive Quality Quick Release Plate
This a very solidly built hefty quick release plate which handle a significant 33 lb payload.
There’s a long plate with both 3/8 inch and 1/4 inch screw and a plug which can allow you to remove a screw if desired. There’s a hex key embedded in the base to allow you to make adjustments to the plate screws which are grooved so you could use a coin alternatively. The base itself has both a 3/8 inch and 1/4 inch whole to attach to the tripod or gimbal plate.
The base has a toggle that can switch from standard Manfrotto to DJI Ronin base. There’s also a spirit level on the base. The side toggle allows you to perform the Quick Release function. Smartly there’s a safety switch which, when engaged, will prevent an accidental release. I did note the side toggle can stick into the open position but it was easy enough to pop that back.
Overall this is a well built plate with a few smart additions including a hex key, spirit level, toggle between Manfrotto and DJI and a safety lock to prevent accidental release.
Very solid, heavy-duty, fast QR plate with clamp kit, good price
This is a solid piece of kit and it’s nicely designed. It’s got exactly what it needs and is really functional – I like it.
I’ve got a few quick release plates, including two bigger ones from fluid heads, but this one is the largest of them all. And it has its own clamp kit.
The plate is designed mainly for bigger and heavier equipment like video cameras or larger DSLRs. But you can of course mount something smaller to it as well.
I like the clamping mechanism. It’s the fastest and probably most secure of all I’ve seen so far. It uses a buckle instead of a more traditional screwing system. Definitely a very fast mount/unmount. Is there enough protection though?
The clamp holds really tight when the buckle is closed. Additionally you have a locking bolt to prevent ‘accidentally’ moving the buckle all the way and releasing the plate. It does allow for adjusting the position of the plate though and there are indicators marked on both sides to make it easier.
Once fully opened, the buckle locks, allowing for removing the plate and staying ready to attach again very quickly just by snapping it back on. That is truly a QR system.
In terms of mounting the kit to anything from a tripod, cage or slider to a shoulder rig, you have a typical ” hole with included ” adapter. There are other supporting holes too and ARRI threads to position and further strengthen the mount. I think it’s secure enough.
From other useful things you have both a ” and a ” screws to attach equipment to the plate. They can easily be removed by lifting a rubber seal at one end of the groove. There are also some decent rubber protectors pretty much throughout the whole length of the plate.
A flick switch in the clamp kit’s base allows for mounting standard plates or the DJI RS ones.
Finally you have a bubble spirit level and an allen key held in a magnetic lock in the clamp kit’s base.
I’m not even surprised with the price here. 53 for a big, heavy and solid piece of anodized metal, with some really well working mechanism, feels just right. I have quite a few items from Neewer and they are mostly really decent quality. But this kit is a shining beacon amongst them. Highly recommended.
Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.
Heavy and tough – with some niggles
This is a substantial heavy duty quick release plate with some good features but let down by some slight niggles in terms of design. The bottom part of the baseplate is 12cm long and as such will accommodate heavy gear, having a reversible 3/8″ to ” grub for use according to what it will be secured to. The top part of the baseplate has two screws — 3/8″ and ” which can both be removed by sliding to the end and removing the rubber insert which keeps them in place.
Other features are a firm lever which releases the top plate and can be locked in place to prevent it from being inadvertently opened — another slight niggle however is its tendency to stick in the open position until forced to close. Also on the top is a spirit level bubble which may or may not be visible depending on the size of the equipment attached to the plate.
The top plate will provide great security thanks to the two 12cm wide rubber strips providing a firm grip on the gear attached to it, but the downside for me is that despite its size and robustness it still relies on a single screw — whether 3/8″ or ” — and will therefore be no more or less secure than a standard baseplate attached to a tripod or lighting stand.
Overall it’s well-made, all metal and big. It weighs a substantial 400g which probably takes it out of the travel photo/video market and restricts its use to big heavy equipment which doesn’t need to move around much. Neewer supply a great range of well-engineered
An ideal QR plate and base unit that is well made.
This is a well-engineered and designed item from NEEWER with their 120mm Tripod Quick Release Plate and integral clamp mechanism. It’s quite heavy and thus robust in its construction that also includes an Allen key held in the base by magnets – see photos – plus a small spirit level. There are two, standard type mounting screws (1/4 and 3/8) that can be used by releasing one not required via the rubber grommet in the base plate. It’s also compatible with some of the Manfrotto range of tripod heads – refer to product specifications for more detail. In use it works very well with the base plate marked in degrees with a central point, so you can position backwards or forwards using the degrees marked to register it to get a precise set-up. The locking feature is quite precise with its single lever that falls to hand plus has a locking button you press down once positioned that is positive in its action. I am using it for table top photography presently, mounted on a Manfrotto tripod, as it’s really solid. An ideal QR plate and base unit that is well made.
Nothing innovative but absolutely solid bit of ki
This doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel though they do use the same normal/rs3 gimbal switch on this as their higher-end fluid heads which is nice, and the quality of this is I would say high end, no worries putting even my heaviest kit with 600mm F4 lens on this, works well, clamps well and so far no issues at all.
Great piece of ki
This is a very well built camera mount it has everything on it from 2 mounting screws that can be taken out if needed, simply by lifting the rubber grommet out the way. It had a spirit level, locking feature, and a Allen key that is held in place by magnets. I’ve used mine for 3d scanning on a circular mount. And it works very well. It is a heavy weight item for the size but that’s the only issue I’ve found.
Great quality price is ok
