Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersFantastic litter tray - worth the investme
This was not an impulse purchase – I thought long and hard about whether it was the right thing to do for my cats. I have two young male Siamese cats who I absolutely adore, but one of them had started peeing in inappropriate places (mostly the bed…) and I really didn’t know what else to try. After multiple vets visits (no medical cause for the peeing problems found) and trying all sorts of different things e.g. different litters, different types of tray, supplements, feliway diffusers, etc., I wondered whether the problem was to do with sharing trays with his brother. Even though there were 4 trays to use around the house, he just seemed to prefer to pee on the bed which was becoming unbearable.

After months of stress and trial and error, I decided to order the Petkit automatic litter tray. My rationale was that perhaps if the pee was instantly cleared away, both cats could use it without the overwhelming smell of another cat’s pee. Cats are territorial, after all.

The Petkit tray arrived and was easy enough to assemble and link up to the app. My cats very quickly started using it but were a bit spooked by the fully automatic cleaning so I changed it to manual/scheduled. The weight detection is generally very good but it will trigger cleaning even if your cat decides to walk/sit on top of it – in this case, scheduled cleaning is better otherwise the tray will be cleaning itself all the time.

Overall I’ve been really impressed with it. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect at first but it cleans the soiled litter away very effectively. However, you do need to use a strong clumping litter for the tray to pick up and dispose of properly. Clumping tofu litter did not work at all, but other clumping litters have been absolutely fine. Changing the bags is straightforward and mess-free. While you can use other bags, the Petkit bags are brilliant and fit the waste container perfectly.

Safety wise, the sensors are highly effective and detect when a cat is approaching or inside the tray – it will not trigger a cleaning cycle if a cat is near. There’s also a kitten mode which means that cleaning is fully manually controlled, and the tray will only start a cleaning cycle if you trigger it from your app or via the button on the tray.

After about 8 months of use, both of my cats happily use the tray multiple times a day. I’ve had no major issues with it, and when an error occurs the app tells you exactly how to resolve it. It’s also great to be able to monitor your cats weight and tray usage even away from home.

Most importantly, the inappropriate peeing has completely resolved. I think it was probably down to a combination of things, but the turning point was definitely when the Petkit tray arrived. While there are people who disagree with using automatic trays and accuse you of being a lazy cat parent, I totally disagree – this isn’t about being squeamish and not wanting to scoop litter, for me it’s about making sure your cats have access to clean litter throughout the day and having the added benefit of being able to monitor their weight and toileting.

It is a great auto cleaner but difficult to deep clea
The cats love it, I love it too until I have to deep clean it.
Its great for when your away for a couple of days, as your cats will have a clean litter tray & you can keep an eye on them to make sure they are doing their business. Its clever that it recognises each cat & the app is really easy to use.

However if you Brough it because you have some mobility issues and finding it difficult to bend down to clean litter tray etc this is prob not for you. You dont have to deep clean as often but when you do its really hard work! particularly if you live in a flat & don’t have a garden! might be easier if you have a garden cos you could hose it down. Hard work if have mobility issues, prob fine if you do not. What is positive is you don’t go through nearly as much litter ! so although expensive in long run prob will balance out.

Hence me only giving it a 4 star………if it wasn’t so hard to do a deep clean it would get a 5! Im prob gonna go back to normal trays & just use this when im away! hope this helps.

    Excellent Automatic Litter Tray!!
We had been wanting to get an automatic litter box/tray for a while and we were originally leaning towards another popular brand (a robot one). However, after reading the reviews for this one and with it being quite a bit cheaper than the alternative we were comparing it with, we decided to go with this one and we are very glad we did!

The whole litter tray was very easy to assemble and set up. The app and notification system are brilliant and we have no more problems with bad smells/odors from the room where we keep the litter tray. It also makes cleaning miles easier! Would highly recommend this to anyone who’s looking for an automatic litter tray.

One of our cats adjusted to it right away however, the other took some time due to the automatic cleaning feature – it made him hesitant. That isn’t an issue with the PETKIT, it’s just something to bear in mind.
It’s also worth noting that the N50 odor eliminators aren’t the cheapest to replace, but they definitely do their job.

    So far so good
Fingers crossed it doesn’t malfunction in the future because it happened with a friend.
Although it is very expensive, so far it has been life changing with the pets.
There is no litter or after smell in the house.
    I’m using way less litter
With automatic feeders I can leave my cats for a long weekend, saving on a sitter
And generally not having to dig poo every couple of hours has been a luxury we are enjoying!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersSo easy and simple to use and clea
This has changed things in my house for the better. No more digging about in a smelly tray first thing in the morning. Had to try out a few litters to be happy. I find Cats Best the one that suits the machine most if you don’t wish to pay a higher price for PetKits own brand. Catsan natural just clogged the Shute so I would give that a miss. My cat took to it straight away after putting a bit of her existing litter into it. I think she likes the privacy it affords her. She digs a lot when using it but the mat in the base is coping with claws. I did buy an extra mat for when I do a deep clean. The pod unit cleans easily in the bath using the shower head. A quick wipe with a towel and then left to properly dry. Comes apart and back together simply and there are plenty of videos online to help you out. The N50 works really well. I find that it lasts longer than 30 days but I don’t have the house overly warm. I think that makes a difference as it is a jelly substance. There is some tracking and, because she digs, quite a bit of litter drops on to the tracking mat I have at the front of it. You can buy a curtain for the door way but what she does kick out is far less than with her old tray so I haven’t bothered getting one. It’s very quiet in operation, slight noise of the waste falling into the Shute but other than that it sounds like an ocean, just the litter sliding about. It is quite big in order to accommodate the waste basket. My cat uses it once, sometimes twice a night and I find I have to empty the basket every 6 days or so. The app is useful in knowing when that needs to be done and you can set reminders for topping up the litter and replacing the N50. You can buy the deodoriser spray unit for it but I find that the N50 does the job and is less likely to spook my cat. Overall I am very happy with my purchase which was cheaper in the Black Friday event.

Went for a weekend away and was panicked but this is perfect. If you have carpet you’ll need some sort of board underneath it and works perfectly once you do

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPut in kitten mode to start with as it could be quite scary for them
After contacting the company as instruction refer to different consignment, we thought we ordered the one with freshener but not, I’ve ordered the matt and spray separately.

So far after connecting problems, lucky my boy does IT the router has a splitter which let us connect with higher mhz

Overall sofar really pleased, but will keep an eye for leakages that have been raised as problems, we got ours on kitten mode till they are use to the self cleaning, as having 3 cats they all seem to want to go at same time.

But for me I think it’s a godsend, now to wean the kittens of their other tray .

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAbsolute game change
I have been thinking of buying one of these for a while but like most put off by the price. Two things I hate scooping cat litter and the smell. I have tried all sorts of cat litters, litter fresheners and still smell remained. I have been changing litter tray every two days on top of scooping on day not changed costing a fortune in cat litter. One of my cats suffers with stomach upsets easily so really important litter box is clean. I recently slipped a disc in my back and so it became necessary for me to get this as not able to scoop. Am so impressed had it for five days now and not had to refill the cat litter as yet so saving money on litter. Most importantly there is no smell! I get a notification as soon as they use it, records their weights so I know who has been, length of time they are in there so can guess what they have done. One of my cats was happy to use right away the other is more timid but we got rid of old tray as soon as this one was set up and eventually she used it after holding her toilet all day. Now she is using more frequently. Is was so easy to set up, all virtually in one piece the only thing to set up was the air freshener really. One annoying thing was that I thought it would come with the odour block which goes in waste box but it never so had to order one. Apart from that all else is good and looking forward to trying the emptying cat litter function as it does it for you straight into waste bag. 100% recommend

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWorks, saves a LOT of time, saves space, easy to use
So I’ve updated my review now that I’ve finally received a second one of these without any missing parts – after being very impressed by my first one I ordered a second – had to return it, ordered again, had to return, ordered again, now have two and am very happy.

I first bought one of these a couple of months ago and it does what it says on the tin – it’s easy to setup, my cats have got used to it, it’s pretty easy to clean (although it does occasionally have the urine-puddling problem beneath the drum that you can easily google about), it’s very quite in operation, and the app that comes with it (at least the iOS version anyway) – is simple to use and informative. I have five cats, and it has learnt to recognise each one.

Five cats means 6+ standard litter trays and maybe 20-30 minutes *per day* keeping those clean – and at any one point in time you can guarantee one of them has something in it giving off an unpleasant aroma. Desperate to save time, I thought I’d try one of these. And it works. I maybe need to top the litter up (30 second job) once every 2-3 days, and I need to empty it and fit a new waste bag (2 minute job) every 4-5 days. The time saving alone on this for me justifies the price. But also – they’re always clean. I don’t come home from work anymore to be greeted by that “the trays need emptying” smell anymore.

It did take my cats a week or two to get used to it – so be patient. At first I just put it where one of the old trays was, put the old tray next to it, and mixed a bit of litter from the old tray with the stuff in the machine. Then I removed the nearby normal tray after a few days, then another normal tray a few days later, and so on. Once the cats have learned that this one is always clean, they get quite fond of it.

    Way better than I though
I honestly wish I could have had one of these years ago!!
Less time messing about fishing cat waste out just empty the bag when it’s full. The gel pack (N50) is costly though but it is brilliant at masking the odour that the waste creates and I hope it lasts for a long time to make cost a little more worth it.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersBeats LR hands down!
    Previous to the PETKIT Litterbox, I owned a LR. After the LR broke due to known faults and their support services were less than helpful, I picked up one of these;

    Key Notes;
    – Quieter (almost silent)
    – More Thorough
    – Provides cats a space to bury
    – Extremely compact
    – Litter compartment allows for less smell seepage
    – The App is fantastic.

    Cons;
    – occasionally the litter catcher will lift a little, easily fixed but can be frustrating
    – litter compartment is small, I have 2 cats who use it 4/5 times a day (total), so I’m replacing the bag once a week
    – a trackmat is essential otherwise litter will go everywhere (but that is the nature of litter boxes, so I can’t fault the product for that!)

My comments are, if you’re debating whether to get this unit or a LR, choose this one!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersNot cheap but worth i
I had looked at this self cleaning litter tray once or twice but never seriously thought of purchasing because of the price but my daughter actually purchased it in June (I thought she needed her head examined) and I seen it in action . We both have indoor cats and always used the best cat litter and cleaned the tray as soon as any of the cats did a poo but the smell still lingers for a while and if they go over night or when you are not at home it can take quite a while to get the smell to go even with a window open .So I gave in and purchased one myself with the help of a money of voucher ,it still was far from cheap but after using this for over a month I’m so glad I bought it .I have used less litter and don’t have to worry about someone visiting just as one of the cats has used the tray . If you have indoor cats especially if they have reached their senior years and use the tray more often this Pura Max is worth i

Since I have two adult cats and five kittens, it was very difficult for me to clean up after them every two hours , but from the day I bought this miracle, my life has become much easier, I only release the garbage bag in the evening and forget about everything I recommend

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersGood but not worth the amount of money
I’ve left this a few weeks after purchase to write a review,,,
    Good points-
*no need to mess with the litter and can be left for 2-3 days depending on how many cats you have.
    *little or no smell
*great for multi-cat households, I purchased this as one of my cars refuse to use the same litter tray unless it was clean and would do its business elsewhere, this machine has eliminated this problem for me.
*easy to understand how it all works and how to clean it and maintain and the app is easy to use.
*better with clumping cat litter, I’ve found the “cats best” brand that clumps is better for the machine
*it’s very good at detecting the cat, it weighs them and has a sensor so no fear of the cat being inside when rotating*
I’m really glad I did purchase this device even though it was very expensive it’s meant that I can go away and my family that call in to sort the cats haven’t got a lot to do.
    Bad points
*cost – I paid nearly 500 and you need to factor in the running costs of the machine the odour cube only lasts 1 month so needs replacing and they are 30 for 3. I haven’t found any bags that fit the machine yet that are strong enough so will have to repurchase the bags. the cat litter I found that works best is expensive so I wouldn’t recommend purchasing if you are looking for no upkeep costs other than litter.
*The bottom tray inside that holds the litter isn’t very scratch proof so my cats have scratched it while burrowing there business and this has led to it leaking wee underneath so smears up the side when its rotating which isn’t nice to clean but until I get a new tray will have to keep cleaning that everyday.
    * cleaning the whole machine took me approx 2 hours! It’s a maul to take apart and get inside all parts as poo and wee still smears all inside and that’s another bit I didn’t like but better than the cat going elsewhere in the house so win win. I will be keeping the device as I’m happy with it overall.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersCaught infection early
Brought this as we have a multi-cat household but I can’t stress enough how great the app function in particular is. It stores a profile for each cat and tracks when they use this – which meant we caught an infection as soon as it started developing and got one of our cats on antibiotics immediately, before he could get seriously distressed or ill. It did take a while for the cats to get used to it moving, but it’s pretty quiet when it’s doing the cleaning cycle and we’ve not had any issues. Really glad we decided to give this a chance.

Golden Review Award: 34 From Our UsersBest purchase I've made since having cats!
I have three cats, and as you can imagine that’s a lot of poop to scoop. Also having ADHD I struggle to keep on top of the scooping required. And my cats (rightfully so!) are much happier when their litter tray is clean/freshly changed.

So in January 2023 I bought my first Puramax and my goodness, it’s amazing. It took a little while for the cats to get used to it, but soon enough Zelda became a frequent user. Revali has begun using it more in the last month or so, Link however has only used it maybe once or twice (which surprises me because he’s the most fussy about how clean the litter tray needs to be).

After feeling the benefit of having one fewer litter trays to clean, as of today, I am now the proud owner of a second Puramax and also a PuraX. My hope is that Link will take to them better now that he has no choice.

The reason I bought a Pura X instead of a third Puramax is because I have the perfect spot in the utility for it (see video) which I had hoped the original Puramax would fit. Clearly I didn’t measure it before buying so do be careful with that it’s quite chunky.

The power cable is wrapped in thread which is agreat touch especially as Zelda loves to chew wires, so this makes it sturdier, however, it isn’t very long so you either need to have space near a plug or get an extender out.

The app is great too, I find it fascinating to see which cats have used it and how long for. It does this by weighing the cat and matching it to the info you’ve given it, so also good for monitoring changes in weight/health etc, but sometimes it doesn’t get it right, so just says something like “unknown cat” but you can change the entry manually in the app.

Again having ADHD I probably didnt read the instructions properly, so didn’t understand how to add more litter without triggering the weight sensor, but eventually discovered the “Maintenance mode” which you can trigger manually on the machine or via the app on your phone. This will rotate the bin back making it much easier to refill, and when done it rotates back in such a way that it levels out the litter for you.

Like I said in the title, best purchase since owning the cats! Sorry for the essay, I hope it was useful!

*Update* it has been 2 1/2 weeks since I wrote this review and Link has finally started using the litter tray! It has been a lot of cleaning up in the mean time for me, and periodically placing him (and whatever poop he has done) inside, to make him realise that this litter tray stays clean. But it has now been two days in a row that I have received a notification that he’s used it!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersQuick delivery, yet to try Pura Max
Hi, really happy with the Pura Max delivery, product looks great (yet to use, will update review once set up). Is it meant to come with a litter mat? I didn’t receive mine.

I did receive the litter remover accessory, didn’t know it would come with that. Very pleased.

Update: I have been using the Pura Max for a few months now and absolutely love it! I was also sent the litter mat which is a great help in catching the litter. It takes some time getting used to the app but you can also use the buttons on the machine to clean/add litter which is super convenient. With the added accessory you can easily empty all the old litter. I love seeing how many times my pets have used the toilet and cleaning the litter box multiple times a day has never been easier. The bin storage also holds a large amount meaning you won’t have to throw it out daily, although it will smell over time so the in-app reminders are great!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersBest litter box
I’ve tried almost every single self cleaning litter box and I have to say if the best one. Yes there are some things that others do better but overall this takes the cake. It’s the only one I would actually feel comfortable with when leaving my cat alone for the 15 days most of the boxes claim (capacity). Waste bin is completely closed off, the litter mat is amazing, no more clumping litter stuck and streaking. Also came with 2 rakes, the standard orange with the large holes and a grey version with smaller holes which is what I used for my kitty as he uses the Natusan litter which is extremely small per grain. Also came with the litter scoop to empty/replace the entire litter into the waste bin which I was not expecting as it’s usually sold separately and wasn’t advertised – a nice surprise! Compared to the pura x my cat enjoys this a lot more simply because it’s larger and lower, they could have implemented a odour elimination system better though, there is the petkit pura air which you can buy separately that uses motion to activate an ozone deodoriser at 25, if only this was built into the litter box instead rather than the spray deodoriser which is extremely annoying (i stopped using it).

My family and I are extremely sensitive to litter smells and this helped cover most of them up. The n50 gel is fitted into the waste bin to deodorise the waste which it does well. The area of the waste bin is quite large internally due to design so I added a charcoal filter beside the waste bin and a Neutradol gel orb and now there is 0 smell during cleaning and after (it’s cheaper than replacing the n50 and works slightly better too).

All in all, it’s expensive but so worth it considering nothing else compares.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersCouple of issues, however a good produc
First of all, I purchased this product because where I live doesn’t have somewhere where I can hide the cat litter.

When I assembled this product, there was a small video guide, but it didn’t go into any detail so I was left having to assume certain things. I managed to set this up and connect the app and I added clumping litter as suggested.

The initial clumping litter I used and the further 3 different types straight after didn’t seem to work correctly, the product was either dumping too much litter or not enough. So if you use this product without using their recommended own brand you’ll need to do some trial and error.

A bit thing to note, if the cat’s business is anything other than solid it sticks all around the inner part of the tray and looks terrible as it’s smudged on a bright white piece of plastic. Within 1 month I’ve had to disassemble the box and fully clean it 4 times which takes quite a while.

A strong benefit of the product is that the spray does a good job of reducing any smell, although if you take off the spray when you’re cleaning the box and it falls on the side it leaks quite heavily.

Lastly, when this product works, it’s great, however, maintenance was a lot more than expected. Their support was very helpful and quick to try solve any possible issues.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersLove i
I really wasn’t sure about buying this. I have 3 cats, and used to have 4 litter tray’s, and 2 of my cats would insist on kicking a lot of the litter out of the tray’s.

I really wasn’t sure if they would take to an enclosed box, as I had tried years ago when I just had 1 cat, and she refused to use an enclosed litter tray, and this is a lot of money to spend, so it had been on my wish list for a long time.

But after I came home one day to a hall full of litter yet again, I decided to give it a go. I’m so glad I did. I placed it where one of the old ones was to start with, which meant using an extension lead for a while, and slowly got them used to it, taking the old ones away one at a time, leaving 1 of the old ones where I wanted to put this box, until I was happy that they would be ok, didn’t take them long to change over, just a few weeks.

It is so nice getting up in the morning and not having a load of litter tray’s to clean out, same when I come home from work, and very little mess outside the box, and what there is ends up on the mat. I do keep a close eye on it to make sure it stay’s clean, and wipe it down regularly, which is easy, and so is emptying the bag.

I didn’t place the odor remover in the box, as I wanted my cats to have as much room as possible to get used to it, but placed it outside instead. I have found the odor remover to be rather strong, and will be trying something else, my cats don’t seem to mind it, also the bags from petkit would be rather expensive, but found litter tray liner’s from B&M fit perfectly. I also use Natusan wheat litter, as this is what I was using before, and didn’t want to introduce to many changes at once, and find it works fine with it.

All in all I’m happy despite the cost, really hope this last’s the test of time, as it makes looking after multiple cats so much easier, and my knees are very happy that I’m not crawling around the floor cleaning up all my old litter tray’s anymore.

I was sent a water fountain as a free offer, which was great because one of my other ones decided to stop working, finding that it’s a lot easier to clean, and love the function where it’s not running all the time, but 3 mins on, then 3 mins off, and will look at replacing my other water fountain at some point this year for one from petkit.
