Beautiful yoyo with great accessories
This is not my first YOSTAR Yoyo, I have an unresponsive one too, but this set has bearings for both responsive and unresponsive setup, and I really appreciate that. The yoyo itself looks gorgeous with the crystal-clear body with a nice colour gradient from ocean-green to violet. The package also includes the second set of axle/bearing with the necessary hex key and 12 strings in lovely, bright colours, also a short but informative guide booklet. All these are stored in a good quality hard case. For 15, this is great value for money. I am pretty late to this party, just trying to improve my fine motor skills around 50, but I can see that this can be such an excellent gift for youngsters who want to get up from the desk and learn some cool tricks.

Brings back some memories!
Right after setting the yo-yo up and showing my kid how to use it with a few tricks from my younger years, that was it… they were gone! I didn’t even get enough time to have a few proper goes! My eldest has even picked up on a few tricks she’s demonstrated to me. Recovering from walking the dog we’re still to master as these are somewhat slippy on the axle to what I’m used to… like really advanced compared to what I grew up with!

With the weightiness of it and the type of axle, which is interchangeable, I’d say these are quite advanced compared to what I grew up with and loved. They take some getting used to but perform so much better!

Comes in a nice carry case with a choice of axle type and several spare coloured replacement strings.

A good time waster and hobby to perfect given the time! Great yo-yo set!

Excellent quality yoyo, for beginners and advanced players.
The YOSTAR Professional responsive Yoyo V8 is an absolute gem! As a seasoned yoyo enthusiast, I can confidently say this yoyo exceeds expectations. Much more to it than when you were a kid!
I’m old enough to be a grandma, but have fond memories of a very basic wooden yoyo I had as a kid, and have had at least one in adult life which made sparks and noises.

I’ve never had a yoyo this smart or expensive, and never learnt to do tricks, so for all practical purposes I’m a beginner.

Aesthetically, I really love it! Out of the box, the yoyo, the strings, the replacement bearing (more on this later), and the tools are all in a cute little spherical, neoprene, zip-up pouch. There’s even a little retaining net inside the pouch, to keep the tiny accessories safe.

The yoyo itself is very pretty. It’s a beautiful neon pink-and-green aluminium. The striking colours were one of the things that attracted me. It comes already assembled with the “responsive” bearing, which is the easier of the two supplied bearings for beginners, because the yoyo will come back to your hand without having to learn a special technique to achieve it. It comes with twelve strings; two each of six different colours, including white.

If, like me, you are new to this, or haven’t had a yoyo since childhood, DO NOT cut, tie, or do anything to the string without reading the instructions. In fact, the only knot should be at the finger end – you don’t tie the string to the yoyo at all, because it’s a special, double-braided string, that can be unbraided slightly to make a loop that will go round the axle of the yoyo. Hence no knot!

Although the provided instructions are quite good, I still found it helpful to search for some online videos that show clearly how to get started, because it’s not that easy to follow without watching someone do it. For this reason, I think a child might need some help. I don’t think they would damage the yoyo, but if they don’t set it up as recommended, it might not perform as intended, leading to frustration.

Although I’m a long way from being ready for the more advanced “unresponsive” version, I did switch the bearings in the interests of testing, and observe the modified behaviour. The yoyo now spins at the end of the string, and does NOT return to my hand. Switching the bearings was a little fiddly. The axle unscrewed readily, using just my fingers (although there is an included L-shaped tool to do it). I wasn’t sure what to expect when removing the bearing itself, with the tubular tool that fits over it. It does not screw or unscrew – you just need to jiggle it a little bit, until it comes out by itself. Then I switched in the replacement bearing and replacement axle. Again, I think a child, depending on age, would need some help to switch bearings. But probably only an older child would have mastered it enough to graduate to the more advanced “unresponsive” mode anyway.

My picture seems to make it look a little wonky. Fear not, it’s not wonky, I don’t think!

Overall, I’m well pleased. Now all I have to do is find some beginner’s tricks and practice, practice, practice…
