Joe D Amato and George Eastman tag team manage to upset the prudish yet again. Here we have the supposed sequel to “Anthropophagus”, ok no real follow on that I could see. Who am I to argue though?
George Eastman is being chased through the Woods by a guy half his size. Why he didn’t turn on him and punch his lungs out is still a mystery. He doesn’t. In an attempt to evade the man he starts to climb a big wrought iron gate with some spikes on top. The man pulls his bell bottoms causing poor George to get impaled. Queue one gruesome visitor to the house with his innards now hanging out. He is taken to hospital where it is quickly found out that he is basically immortal. After killing a Nurse, he’s free again. After dispatching a guy by cutting his head open with a bandsaw he is really on the lamb. It then turns into a film similar to Halloween. With George being pursued by the guy at the start of the film turning out to be a Priest. A bit more carnage ensues, but mostly it’s not as gory as the earlier stuff. A lot of the violence in the later part is more against poor George.
It’s a cult classic for sure. Well paced. Another “who’s who?” of cult cinema make up the cast.
I really think D Amato and Eastman were the Lennon and Mcartney of exploitation cinema.
My hat is off to them both.
The Hysteria is Absurd I’ve never been a big fan of Absurd, it was the first video nasty I managed to get my hands on back in the day when it was still banned in the UK (from a dodgy VHS dealer at a local market, great days), but it makes me feel nostalgic.
When I saw that the ‘The Hysteria Continues’ podcast boys had done a commentary on the 88 Films release I thought, what the hell, I’ll buy it.
I have watched Absurd multiple times now with the commentary on and enjoy it quite a bit.
I’d give Absurd 2.5/5
With the Commentary I’d give Absurd 5/5
The decent commentary sold me on this, and it’s something I now find myself returning to often. With the THC commentaries it’s like watching a film with friends and it helps to lighten the tone a little bit, especially with some of the gratuitous violence on display in absurd, e.g. the head in the oven scene.
"..ANOTHER VIDEO NASTY FROM THE 80'S.." PLOT…
After recently escaping from a medical lab a priest-doctor is chasing a man with supernatural regenerative abilities, he reaches a small town where the mutant goes on a killing spree.
Yet again another crazy 80’s movie with a super-crazy psycho murderer on the loose! Any excuse for total carnage and there is certainly plenty of it in Absurd! The story starts a little slow but soon picks up pace once the bodies start piling up, the cast is not too bad, a few famous faces from other 80’s classic slasher and horror. its cheesy in places as you would expect with these low budget movies but they are so much fun, there’s plenty blood and guts in this movie with some great looking gory kills! The ending is especially memorable with the girl and the head! Make sure you add this one to the collection.

He's not a man , he is a beast! I’d love to buy the Blu-ray of this here on Amazon, but it doesn’t ship to my address in N. Ireland don’t know why , it’s a standard Blu-ray nothing malicious or hazardous . But downloaded it earlier tonight, I’ve heard so much about this classic 80’s nasty . It lives up true to its word, George Eastman’s great doing this shows and . Just superb playing the psychotic killer called Miko , who undergone a nuclear experiment that’s going wrong . Where his blood cells regenerated faster than any other person, turning him superhuman and . Goes on a killing spree , with a Priest and Cop trying to stop him films like these are so rare and are cult classics. Especially Italian horror ones , there the absolute best for gore and horror movies . Hopefully I’ll get it soon on Blu-ray , if not here then ,eBay etc cause I’d love to add it to my horror collection. This is an absolute must for all horror fans. Of George Eastman , also Italian horror Cinema .
entertaining and gory and more The Italian with subtitles, where you don’t miss any action, is the best way to watch this in your face slasher from Joe D’Amato. The title Absurd refers to the medical condition of the killer who has suffered a chemical leak which means his injuries heal very quickly. Gorehounds all the ingredients you want are in this movie.
ABSURD? COULD BE!!!!! Absurd is a strange title for this italian produced movie but then again it bears no relationship to its alternative title Anthropopagus 2 as regards the original storyline.I cannot think why this was originally on the banned nasties list back in 1984 when you consider the modern gorefests are far more graphic and explicit but maybe back then anything mentioning cannibals or slasher serial killers was not considered hip enough and could deprave viewers? not necessarily so! George Eastman is the immortal killer with reproducing blood cells in this gorefest and the only way he can be killed is by shutting off his brain either by a bullet or hatchet-well it’s different! He escapes from hospital pursued by a priest and impales himself on the spikes of a gate he tries to climb over. After his wounds have miraculously healed he is on the run again killing anyone who gets in his way-in fact one of the young motorcyclists he slaughters is none other than Michele Soavi who turned out to be one of the noted directors in italian movies at a future date.Arriving at a private residence he makes his way in and starts a rampage of killing again but eventually gets his comeuppance from a young crippled girl who manages to get out of her bed and blind him.He wanders around in a frenzy trying to feel for her but she buries a hatchet in his head-end of story.Anyway it’s enjoyable if you don’t take it seriously and ignore the loose ends and improbabilities. The bluray is sharp with good colouring and a definite improvement on the dvd.well worth a look!
GEORGE EASTMAN RULES The item came really fast, in perfect condition.Everything is as described. The story is great – real classic italian horror from 80’s,picture quality is perfect.100 % entertainment. The price is cheap, but that’s hard-to-find title so, don’t hesitate – BUY IT NOW!
Absurd (blu ray) As video nasties goes, this one does have some brutal and violent deaths, which was the reason it made the list.
It seems tame nowadays compared to say, the evil dead remake.
Sadly not a HD transfer, but suppose we’re lucky to have it fully uncut on blu ray
Not as many extras as I had hoped for but not a bad selection for a film of it's age 88 Films have done a sterling job in bringing this video nasty to Blu ray. The film itself still drags but the blood drenched set pieces are what this is all about and they still pack a punch after 35 years. Not as many extras as I had hoped for but not a bad selection for a film of it’s age.
Great to see a good version of this film Great to see a good version of this film. My beat up video lasted years but times move on. You know what you are getting. Cheesy characters. Awful dub. Story what story and lots of gore. In fact what more do you want.
