Clip the guide on the knife. Use the 400 grit side for rough grinding in a 10~30 degree angle, push the knife with a little force, and then gently retracted. This process takes about 15 minutes. Then use the 1000 grit side for fine grinding. This process takes about 10 minutes.

    Pretty good wet stone.
Does what it says, and easy to clean. I used to refurb some old chisels and it did the job. I’m not sure how long the stones would last, they might dip after a while, but guess could be evened off again with a diamond stone.

    Good value for money
It takes a good bit of practice to get this right, and there’s no replacement for trial and error. A good range of stones and clear instructions provided as well as some gloves to keep you protected which were a nice addition

Good enough for a newbie like me

The only issue I have is that the booklet doesn’t have an explanation for every piece in the box. It’s the first time I’ve ordered/used a sharpener, so I’m not familiar with the extra pieces in the box and haven’t used them because I don’t know what they are for.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI'm pretty sure that the whetstones are mislabelled.
The 3000 is closer to 400 and the 8000 is 1000. The 400/1000 stone should be labelled 3000/8000. That said, now that I’ve worked this out I have been able to get some pretty good results.

    A game change
Goodbye to dull knives. If your knives are impotrant to you then a once a week session with this kit will keep them slicing and dicing butifully. I have Japaneses knives and the angle guide is invaluable.

    Good to have se
I believe, you need to practice and try it on for quite many times before perfect it.
It is not for anyone who is in hurry and if the knife is blunt and have some corrosion blade – you may better off choose the rough grid ( stone ) for the start.

    Your knifes derserve this.
Lovely kit, well packaged and easy to use. Instruction are supplied, and they are fine. I learn best from actually watching people, so I visited YouTube. It is full of clips of people teaching you how to sharpen knifes correctly. Once you start the sharpening, and get into the rhythm. You notice it’s quite therapeutic. The second knife I sharpened, I managed to get it to cut 100gsm paper with no effort at all. Very happy. My knifes feel like new again, and I feel more confident using sharp knifes that cut easily.

    Value for money
All round good value for money kit. I wanted a set of whetstones to cover my sharpening needs. The bonus here is the range of extras. Everything you need. Very pleased with it.

    Excelle
Arrived quickly. Well packaged. Excellent quality. Takes a little practice but once you get the hang of using it correctly it is brilliant. Have had several types of knife/blade sharpeners in the past but this sharpens to another level. Have used to sharpen kitchen knives, swiss army knife, wood chisels and leatherman. All are now smooth, polished, and razor sharp. If you are prepared to make the effort and soak the stones properly and spend a little time learning how to use it correctly, this kit will last you many years and can be used on any size blade. if you haven’t used a whetstone before I advise to watch some youtube tutorials . Highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersBrings blades back to surgical sharpness
Using the better pull through sharpeners or a steel keeps knives in a decent condition but every so often they do need to go back to a basic sharpening to restore that surgical edge.
My father used to use an oil stone for plane blades and chisels, and I still have it, although it is a bit messy for knives. Oilstones are much harder and slower working but do give a fine, polished edge. This kit uses the much cleaner whetstones using water as the lubricant. It comes with a guide for chisels and the like, which I don’t need as I practice woodturning so have jigs and a grindstone which does the job, although grindstones are not as convenient to use for knives.
The kit includes a guide to set the angle right for knives and two whetstones with a different grit rating on each face to give 400 (coarse), 1,000, 3,000 and 8,000 (very fine) grit compound stones. This gives you the range of sharpening and polishing stones to cover a wide range of blade types from scissors and shears to fine boning knives.
With whetstones softer than oilstones they do wear out of true faster so a harder flattening stone is included to restore a perfectly level surface.
The stones are placed in a bamboo frame with a non-slip base to give a fair degree of stability in use. Also included is a leather strop, another thing my father had and used back in the days when razor blades were resharpened. The strop comes with polishing compound. Polishing is not absolutely necessary but does give a professional looking finish to the job.
The kit also includes a pair of cut resistant gloves which might be a safety feature but make holding knives for sharpening a bit cumbersome, so it is easier to work without them.
I have not had the kit long enough to talk about durability, but it seems well made and does a fine job of sharpening and polishing. I went through our entire kitchen knife collection, some reasonably sharp, some less so, and brought each knife back to frightening sharpness, able to cut through a sheet of A4 and thinly slice tomatoes without effort.
It does take longer than sharpening with a steel or pull though knife sharpener, quite a few minutes to get a fine edge, but it is far superior to other methods of sharpening and only needs doing every so often, depending upon usage, using a steel before each use in between sharpening sessions to keep the edge in decent condition.
That being said, it is quite therapeutic, a slow-paced process with a satisfying result. My knives were not in a terrible condition, just not as sharp as they were when they were bought, the sort of bluntness that comes over time shown by, for example, force needed to penetrate tomato skins for slicing, or cuts needing more force to be clean. This kit has brought them back to light touch razor sharpness.
There are other, similar kits around, which probably will manage the same results, but this was the one I bought based on price and contents and I am happy with product and the results.

Everything there but need's better instructions for beginners.
The pack had everything you need in there, also the instructions were good but did not explain what everything was for. Took a bit of looking on the internet for somethings but found out what they did eventually. All in all a very good produc
