An excellent last minute Christmas present for my Twitter addicted teenage son.
My 18 year old son’s face was noticeably underwhelmed when he opened this on Christmas morning. It wasn’t a video gaming accessory or some virtual reality immersive face mask Twitterizer to add to his collection of god help us blinkering technology – it was a jigsaw puzzle for heavens sake.
After weeks, literally weeks of encouragement and reminders from myself to actually remove the shrink-wrap and at least look inside the box, he finally did. “Fine. Fine dad, if it makes you happy I’ll open the box”. Grumble grumble (tap tap tap on phone) grumble grumble. Tap tap. Grumble. Etc. Such gratitude hey?
After complaining that the instructions were not clear and the pieces “don’t work properly”, with my assistance we slowly began. I admit that bending the corner pieces to right angles took some learning and courage to avoid breaking them, but I needn’t have worried. They are far sturdier than you may think.
After an hour of 50% effort and 50% tap tapping on phone, he threw the towel in for the night and slunk away for more solitary phone tap tap. The next morning I was surprised to see him at the table fitting more pieces together, and even more surprised that when arriving home from work he went straight back to the puzzle. He was hooked in and spent the next 2 morning and nights determinedly building the structure until we had a 100% complete Empire State Building glowing away on the dining table. He thoroughly enjoyed building it, and the time spent together over doing so was a joy.

Bought this for my cousin as he likes puzzles and the fact I’ve never seen a puzzle that can bend at corners. So, I’m intrigued to see how it looks when it’s completed, especially with the LED light 🙂
A Great Puzzle, and a Great Memento!
This is a brilliant item to have and to display. It is fantastic to see it light up the darkness. One slight flaw-the on/off light switch could be better located, as sometimes switching on or off can be a problem.
Fragile to assemble
Nice when finished, but frustrating to put together, very fragile until you finish it, then quite sturdy, but you need patience, and lots of it, took me about six hours to put together, would I buy another one like this? No, only if it came already assembled, but finished product is lovely when its lighted up
Brilliant puzzle
Bought for our 9 year old son as part of his Christmas. There are a lot of pieces with some being quite fiddly you fit. As a result he needed some help with this and was unable to complete by himself.
However, it’s magnificent and is really nice when lit up using the included LED base.

Bought for my 9 year old. He struggled a bit with some of the fiddly corner pieces but managed to make most of it by himself. As with all 3d jigsaws it needs to be handled carefully but pretty sturdy once finished. Lighting very effective. Only niggle would be the light switch is underneath the base so whole thing has to be moved to turn the light on/off; a switch on the side or top would have been more practical.
Love making these – look a bit pricey but for what you get and the end product including light up LED its well worth the hours of fun you will have while building them – have made all of the night versions now and looking forward to more coming out, would thoroughly recommend! Slightly less value for money than the others based on reduced number of pieces but would still recommend!
Great puzzle, but here’s a tip 👍
Bought for my daughter at Xmas. Great puzzle and looks fantastic when done, but impossible to build without glue. We built about 4 layers at a time and used gorilla glue to keep everything intact and left to dry til the next day. So took about a week to build but the results were worth being patient for.
Really nice quality. I gave this as a present to my son and he disappeared into his room for nearly 2 hours to build it. He came down after building it looking very pleased with it and so he should be as it looks really impressive when built. Very high quality build. Everything we have bought from the Ravensburger range has been of a very high quality and my some who is 10 years old built this on his own with no adult help.
A very nice puzzle kit, very rewarding when you see it slowly getting built up. Looks sweet when lit up at night and varies through a sequence of colours. Took me about 3 hours to complete, all parts fit well together. I even nearly dropped it at one point and it didn’t fall apart! Only issue – and maybe it was bad construction on my part – was that it was quite difficult to keep square, but the plastic inset bits do pull it together quite nicely.
All in all, a nice kit that was rewarding to build and looks good on display. Will definitely get another one.
I bought this as a present for my girlfriend for Christmas. She loves it now but building the jigsaw was a nightmare. The key to building these is to make sure all pieces are at right angles where needed and are snug to the frame. Once the first few layers are built, it does get easier to old the rest of the jigsaw. This has taken me around 3 hours to build. The pieces are good quality plastic but do take some elbow grease to make sure they are at right angles. I would also like to see some triangular pieces to help increase the rigidity of the frame, making it easier to build. The bottom layers are the most fragile, but once these are in it does get easier!
Overall, a great gift once buil
I`m 23 years old but really just a big kid and I wanted something to busy myself with on Christmas morning lol. I put it together pretty quickly, I mean it maybe took an hour tops, but the finished product looks amazing! The way it lights up in all different colours, it`s ideal for putting in your bedroom or anywhere you wish to display it really, it brings a bit of city nightlife into your home. 🙂
This is a christmas present for my nephew. he is a nightmare to buy for. he seems to have every gadget, latest craze for an 11 year old going. I struggle to find something unusual and different for both birthday and christmas. I have somehow manage to succeed up to now as I am “favourite Auntie” but the pressure is on to keep my title!!! I am confident this item will not let me down as it looks fantastic and close inspection of his bedroom confirms that he has nothing like it – YET!!!
This small 3d jigsaw of the Empire State building looks superb. I chose product because I wanted to create some mood lighting around my bar area at home while keeping a jazz music American feel that compliments my decor. This model did not disappoint. It is made of durable plastic parts and looks really classy especially when lit during night time. It really compliments the other lighting I have. Its own distinctive lighting changes colour and only adds to its overall classy look. During the day it also looks superb as I found because of its night time theme you can hardly see the jigsaw joints, I found it incredibly easy to build with all the jig parts numbered on the back so had it ready in abou 2 hours. I would say If you are looking for mood lighting that fits a specific jazz New York theme, then you cannot go wrong with this product, and especially for the price, it looks superb. Well done Ravensburger.
