I have an Acer gaming laptop and thought I’d pop this in to add some more storage to it, but for some reason it won’t come up on my laptop. I don’t think it’s an issue with the card as I have had one by this brand before and it worked great so imagine it’s something to do with my laptop. So unfortunately I can’t say how well it works at the moment until I sort out the issue. But going on past experience these work well and have been reliable in other machines. So if you find it at a reasonable price I’m sure it will work fine for you and would recommend it.

Really easy to install, good performance with speeds achieved very close to those advertised when connected straight onto the motherboard. However, speeds are much reduced if connected by an external USB enclosure.

Comes with a screwdriver and screw which is handy.

Not the very latest technology but at 50 quid it’s really good value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value!

I’d delayed using this out of apprehension about opening up my laptop! I did lots of research online and watched quite a few videos, which did help me take the plunge (I also bought a set of PC repair screwdrivers to be ready to deal with any unexpected screw sizes/types I might encounter in the laptop). It was pretty easy, though I did have a tablet to hand so I could check the online tutorials as I went along.
Everything was really straightforward and it slotted in my Asus Tuf Gaming A15 as promised, followed the instructions in tutorials on how to set it up, and it works! This laptop isn’t supplied with very generous storage, so it’s great to be able to expand it & increase the capacity to install more games & media.
I’m no expert on specs or how to test performance of installed extras, so hopefully more knowledgeable reviewers can advise on that, but it all seems to work well as far as I can tell, it seems to perform as fast as the existing SSD, and I didn’t break my laptop in the process!! Hopefully that will be helpful for the people, like me, who are going into this without a clue about how to upgrade their PCs.

This is a decent budget NVMe SSD which can be used either as an internal drive or as an external drive using an enclosure.

    * Type: Gen 3 PCIe x4 (fast enough for most tasks, but Gen 4 is available in most modern laptops)
    * DRAM: No – but uses HMB (Host Memory Buffer) when used as an internal drive. Basically uses a small amount of your RAM to map the drive before writing which speeds things up and lessens wear. NB This does not work via USB.
    * Size: 1TB – this is a good size for most uses. Bear in mind you ideally want to keep the drive from being close to capacity as write speeds will slow down the closer to capacity that you get. Keeping 20-30% free is good.
    * NAND Flash: QLC (Quad Layer Cell) which is often used in budget SSD’s. Not as durable as TLC (Triple Layer Cell) but good enough when your main use is for READS and light WRITES.
    * READ WRITE SPEEDS: Max speeds are about as expected for Gen 3 SSD. These are max speeds and will slow down as the cache is exhausted. [NB Speed Test Picture is from USB enclosure so slower]

    * BEST USE CASE: OS (Operating System) Drive for someone who has light use, mainly reads and not many heavy writes (Photo/Video editing etc), or as a data storage drive.

It is nice that it comes in black and with inbuilt thermal controls, which make the product look good and keeps it cooler in operation.

The pricing for NAND flash has increased since last summer (2023) when SSD’s were going really cheap.

A decent budget option at a price maybe just slightly higher than expected, but not far off.

4.0 out of 5 stars 1TB QLC NVMe Gen 3x4 PCIe Budget SSD (Storage Drive / Light Use OS Drive)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExcellent useful 1TB SSD. Easy install. Came in nice packaging and smaller than I imagined (no excessive plastic or cardboard) also has a little fitting kit included which is a nice touch.
