Having got a cat towards the end of last year, I picked these up as I needed a way limit how far the French door in my bedroom opens so I could let some fresh air in without letting him escape. Fitting was very easy, there are self-adhesive pads already applied to both parts and there are screws included too. I chose to try using just the adhesive pads and so far they’ve held very well, with absolutely no signs of the adhesive losing grip.

Both parts are quite lightweight plastic but feel quite sturdy. The chain means you can choose exactly how far the door/window will open which is very useful. The chain locks in place with a push of the switch and a reassuring click, and unlocks by pressing the button on the side and moving the switch at the same time. I can’t comment on whether they’re child-proof and I wouldn’t rely on them as a security measure, but they’re certainly cat-proof and that’s more than sufficient for my needs!

I was a little concerned when these arrived and I saw all the screws as I thought my husbands not going to want to be drilling into our windows! However, you do have the option to stick the panels down, which suits us. Gives a bit more security to stop my kids climbing out of any windows. Easy to fit and undo the chain, so you can have it wider or really narrow too. Pleased with these.

Easy to fit, comes with all the parts to either stick down or screw in (I’d recommended screwing in, for peace of mind). Easily adjustable, can’t see the kids managing to work out how to open it.

This twin pack of window locks arrived in an easy to recycle plastic bag. Well made from plastic with a stainless steel chain, these are easy to install. Either by using the stickers, or for a more secure fit you could screw them on.

The former method being great for anyone who’s renting a house. Simply because you don’t need to drill any holes. Plus these are easy to remove without causing any damage.

Just as the product description describes I could also see these being useful on other things. Like doors, filing cabinets or anything that you want to stop pets or kids opening. It probably wouldn’t take long for kids to figure out to open them, but if this dissuades them for 10 minutes, that could be long enough for you to notice what they were up to.

Another thing I noticed is there’s no way of actually locking them. All it takes to open them it’s to press the button downwards. Something that you can easily do from the outside of the window, so these are not secure.

However that’s not to say these are useless, far from it. These are particularly great when stuck to a bedroom window. While letting in fresh air, they stop the cat from getting out at night. Which means no more unwanted bird and mouse shaped gifts at 4am in the morning. Plus they can’t bring any of their furry friends for a party with your pet food.

I have house cats and it can be hard in the summer as I can’t have doors or windows open. So this for me was a really great idea for my study window as at least now I can have the window open enough for some fresh air while I’m working without putting my cats at risk

As soon as I saw the product image with the cat and open window I knew this was a product I needed (despite the comically bad photoshopping of the whole picture). During the summer months we’d love to be able to open some windows but having house cats means that’s impossible without them trying to perform their own version of the great escape every time they hear a window crack open.

With these we can now have a couple of windows open enough to get some fresh air in knowing that our cats can’t push them open any wider. Of course it doesn’t stop them trying but once they realise it’s not happening they resign themselves to camping out on the windowsill instead.

Very easy to install – we have UPVC windows and used the adhesive pads included and found they stuck well. Screws are supplied too if you want a more secure option but the pads are fine for use with cats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purrfect for households with cats

It was very easy to install as it just sticks onto the PVC. There is an option to add screws but I think they seem to be well enough stuck.
To open, you press a small button and slide ‘switch’ so the metal rod securing the chain retracts and releases it. To close it back up you pop the chain link into the gap and slide the switch back so the metal bar passes through the link and clicks into place. So it closes securely, but it doesn’t exactly ‘lock’ so someone could open it if they were determined to get in.

I’ve used one of these on the patio door to hold it just open enough for the cat to come and go, without it swinging open in the wind, or letting rain in. I have a cat flap in the front door but she hasn’t learned to use it yet – she is very timid and only likes the back garden so I need to keep the door a touch open for many hours! I feel I can even go to bed and leave it open with this in place. I think this is sort of the opposite use than they’re intended for, and I use the full length of the chain to leave a decent gap – as it’s adjustable, if you secured it on a shorter link it would ‘prevent’ pets from escaping while letting some ventilation in.
These were just what I needed and have worked well.

These are my favourite style of windows restrictors. No key needed, adjustable, easy to install, no screw, no complaints. Sticks on really easily and really easy to adjust. Stays stuck. Doesn’t let my cat out. I’ve filled my house with these! They’re not really designed for proper security, but they’ll deter the casual opportunist lured by the wind opening up the window.
