These crabbing lines are aimed for children to use. You can also use if beginner. Easy to wind and unwind. The frame is large and easy to hold and manoeuvre as you wish. Good buy for 2 in a pack.

I often take my children drop net fishing for crabs at this time of year. Sometimes we’re successful, and other times we’re not, as it’s quite difficult to throw the nets out. Recently, I came across these weighted fishing lines with net bags attached, and I thought I’d give them a try. They have been absolutely brilliant.

Here’s how they work: Simply put a piece of fish bait in the net bag, then cast the weighted line. It sinks to the bottom wherever you are, so there’s no difficulty in casting it out. After about an hour, you can pull the net back in, and the crabs are simply attached to the outside of the net. The crabs don’t want to let go of the bait inside, so this method is both easy and humane for catching these little critters. It’s a great way to engage your children and show them what comes out of the sea.

The set comes in a pack of four, which is enough for lots of children. Alternatively, if you have more than four children, they can share one line. Overall, it’s a fun and educational way for kids to learn about habitats and the creatures that live there. I highly recommend this set—it’s durable, colorful, and well-made.

These hand lines are great and will give you and your family hours of fun. Don’t forget to take a bucket and a net to help with your catch.

The hand lines come in a pack of two, and they are wound up. You can order a pack of four if you require more. The line is 13m which is plenty! At the time of writing this review, a two-pack was 5.29, which I think is excellent value for an afternoon of fun at the seaside. Especially because you should get years of use out of them … unless someone lets go of the line into the ocean.

Once you’re ready to use them, you’ll need to remove the netting and attach it to the other metal arm (like the weight). This is where you’ll put the meat (cheap bacon works well). The craps will grab on and you can pull them out and pop them in a bucket (with water) for the kids to get up close.

Keep your catches in a bucket filled with seawater, so they don’t get distressed. Besides catching them, the most fun is when you release them. We like to gently pour them onto the boat ramp and watch them scurry back into the ocean!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hours of fu

Four crabbing reels in the pack for just under twelve quid. That’s somewhere in the region of around three quid each. I suspect that you will pay almost double for one of these, down on the harbour front in Cornwall this Summer. If you’ve got a larger family, then this set of four is a bit of a no brainer if your brood fancy a bit of crabbing.

The quality feels okayu and the reels are relatively crab ‘friendly’ without any hooks. This newer breed of crabbing reels includes a bag that you fill with crab friendly, meaty treats. The crabs will bit the treats and you can humanely lift them into your crabbing bucket without harming them. Just remember not to keep them in the bucket for too long and to provide some shade in the form of seaweed.

Our little boy has never done crabbing but has always been intrigued by the other kids undertakings. We’ll take a couple of these upt to Northumberland this Summer and see how he gets on.

With a trip to the seaside pending we ordered this four pack of crab lines, ready for some seaside fun!

The spools are as expected with 13m of line it should be plenty to dangle off the side of the harbour wall I’ve seen some crab lines with 11m line so this extra 2m could make all the difference!

Basically you put the ‘chum’ in the little bags – you could choose, spam, or bacon, or old bits of fish) and the crab will hang onto the bag for as long as it takes to get at it – you will intervene!

Crabs need to be kept in sea water even after catching. Since I still have nightmares about the sound of them being cooked alive by some fellow youth hostellers in a communal kitchen, we’ll probably throw ours back in!

As for the actual process of catching not cooking, it brings back altogether better memories of childhood for me that I hope to pass on to the next generation. 11.69 currently for four different coloured units. Good for identification and worth the outlay for returns in wholesome fun!
