8Bitdo Ultimate Wired Controller for Xbox, Hall Effect Joystick Update, Compatible with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10 & Windows 11 – Officially Licensed (Black)

I game on Xbox a lot and have gone through quite a few controllers of the past 17yrs of gaming since getting an Xbox 360. I chose to try this controller specifically for the hall effect sticks and triggers, plus their reasonable price of $45US at time of purchase.
Pros:
-Very accurate
-Relatively quiet (not super clicky)
-Ergonomic, if not a touch weird (Home and Back buttons)
Cons-
-D-pad is vague (Makes selections difficult)
-White (hands are dirty, personal preference)
For the most part, I really enjoy this controller. The D-pad issue could be specific to my unit but I was too lazy to exchange it in time. I notice it most in Battlefield 2042 when selecting character kits and accessories.
If I find myself in need of another controller, I will probably buy this one again and just do a good test up front.
Works. Very nice.
I read a few of the reviews and was a bit worried, but honestly I haven’t had any issues whatsoever. The software was easy to install, intuitive, and worked. It’s not that big but it’s very easy to hold. The software lets you recalibrate and test the controller in depth.
The cable is actually the perfect distance for me, same distance as the cable I used to use and it works great! The game pass is also a plus.
Short cable
While the controller itself works well enough, the cable is fairly short, despite claiming to be 3 metres long. The old version with the built in cable, which they also rate as being 3 metres, is actually longer than the new cable provided with the Hall effect triggers. Not sure what’s going on there.
The controller itself is pretty solid. No real complaints. Just wish the cable was longer, or at least the same length as the previous 3 metre cable.
As good as the original Microsoft, works with Linux (but)
Size: Controller is same size and buttons are more or less the same as with my Xbox One controller which gave up after just one year with severe paddle drift
I have high hopes of no paddle drift for this one as these are hall-effect paddles, not the usual potentiometer paddles.
Look and Feel: Feels and looks very well made, sturdy, does not creak or bend. Buttons, paddles, exterior almost elegant.
Included cable is quite long and feels well made and sturdy.
During test gaming the paddles feel … “better” than the ones from the Microsoft controller, hard to describe, may be personal preference.
Paddles are very precise in games as are the triggers and the buttons have a good “pressed” feeling, 10 points.
Tip for Linux (in my case Arch):
1. Update firmware via Windows tool (Microsoft store) to 1.03.
2. (this may work w/o fw update) Once that is done when plugging into Linux box, keep X pressed while plugging it in and after the controller buzzes once let go, then it will work perfectly as a Xbox controller with Linux (Arch/KDE 6) and Steam, no issues, tested various games for hours.
Sotto i 45 euro, pad perfetto.
Not for big hands
I use it with a Windows 11 computer, and did not have to install any driver.
This joystick seems sturdy and well built.
Important to know: it’s much smaller than the regular Xbox joystick; not for big hands.
Will see if the hall effect makes it more durable.
So far so good.
Buon controller, solido
Great Controller, Software could use a little work.
(These are my opinion’s of the controller, I used AI to help clarify my review)
So far, my experience with the controller has been largely positive. Initially, I encountered an issue where the joystick didn’t offer full range of motion when connected to the Xbox. This highlighted an area where the software could be improved.
To start, it’s important to ensure you download the correct software for Xbox control (a step I overlooked initially). Once connected, I found navigating the software challenging as there was no clear guide on how to adjust various settings. It took me some time to figure out how to optimize the range of motion on the stick. Providing a tutorial for first-time users would greatly enhance the user experience.
Despite this software hurdle, the controller itself performs admirably. It boasts smooth operation, with responsive buttons. The additional buttons on the back of the controller are a welcome addition, and the ability to create multiple profiles tailored to different games is a definite plus.
Overall, aside from the minor setback of grappling with the software, I’m thoroughly impressed with the controller.
