i originally had the qc 45s and wanted an upgrade so caved and got these. have to say they are very similar! i love the immersion mode it’s great! turning them on and off is little annoying as there is no switch like the 45s, just multipurpose buttons. how we they are amazing, they fit great and the noise cancelling is once again great!
You get what you pay fo
Would definitely recommend these headphones, impressive sound quality, bass is just right and not overpowering. I would prefer to have these over apple headphones, and they’re cheaper too. Even though these are still 300 plus headphones, for what you pay, you get back in quality.
Excellent Sound - Multi-use
Dual BlueTooth connections (eg iPhone, TV). Also can use as a directly connected device eg to Yamaha Keyboard (where you cannot uses Bluetooth headphones). Bluetooth disconnects automatically when phones taken off head, and reconnects automatically when worn again. Built in mike for answering telephone and switching source to phone. Can be controlled by Bose app which allows you to control and manage two sets of headphones if you need to switch between them. Around the ears fits comfortably and with noise cancelling shuts out all extraneous sound – you’re effectively dead to the world around you!
Very good
The Headphone overall is good, but has some minor issue with immersion feature, doesn’t immerse properly.
The Audio it’s gives echo effect on the background.
Other than that it comfortable, easy to use fast process very effective and offers different features which is very good
Nice sound, eventually.
Having had a set of Sony XM1’s for years I was expecting big improvements in sound when I finally upgraded to these. Initially I wasn’t that impressed with the so7nd gains but after a good month of listening and playing around with the EQ, they have really come alive. They have taken some significant wearing in thought. They produce a nice, warm sound and open with most music well. Detail is really good. My only gripe is the hinge mechanism. Is machine metal and it’s sharp. REALLY sharp. So much so I can’t actually belive they’ve let them go to production this way. It’s a minor niggle, but if you csth your skin in the hinge when unfolding it’s bloody painful!
Coming from the Game Zero headset from EPOS, for me, these blew me away.
The base is very good for a headphone, and the sound isolation is on another level. I cannot hear my partner at all if I’m playing or watching something, and they can get pretty loud/excitable when they’re playing with their friends.
As I use them with my PC, I can’t attest to what their battery life is like. The built-in mic quality isn’t great, and reduces the quality of the audio output when used. Of course, the mic is meant to be used as hands-free, not when used hardwired with a PC like I do. A separate mic is therefore a must.
Comfort wise they work well for me, and I’ve got a big head. No pressure pain after extended use, and overall very lightweight and flexible.
Overall then, not much I can fault them on. Time will tell of course as to their reliability.
Incredibly effective noise reduction. Sound quality also excellent. The noise cancellation & good driver units brings out detail in the music that you never hear using plain headphones or even noise cancelling ear buds.
Quoted battery life is shorter than claimed by other Bluetooth head phones but I find the battery does not need charging frequently. It lasts many days when using them for about an hour each day.
They turn off automatically when you take them off for a period of time, there is no off/on button. I lowered the default time period to 5 minutes. So when you take them off it stops playing the music and will resume playing when you put them back on before the time out period. If not put back on before the time period times out they shutdown.
If unused for a long period they do not automatically connect to the phone. You just need to touch the Bluetooth button to reconnect (effectively the Bluetooth button is the On button).
The ‘swipe strip’ to set the volume is very good and much easier to use than fumbling for Vol Up/Down buttons.
I also have an older set of Bose Quiet Comfort head phones. This new ‘Ultra’ set is far superior.
These headphones are seriously good, I was actually surprised at how good they are when I first started using them. They are really comfortable and light, but the battery life is a tad disappointing.
The different modes that can be selected via the Bose App are great, as you are able to fine tune what type of listening experience you want. For example, you can control the extent of noise cancellation on a sliding scale, how the music should be played (eg. Immersive) and save as a profile for future use. There is also a button on the back that can be programmed to change between modes.
In my opinion these are a better product than the AirPod Max, which was another headphone I was considering but eventually went for these after listening to them both.
The only thing I don’t like is the case and the way you have to fold the headphones, I’ve got used to it now but initially it was a pain. Also, I’ve had some issues with the app, in particular in an Airplane where it’s seemingly demanded internet connection to log me back into the app, after being randomly logged out. At one point I wasn’t able to control my headphones at all, but managed to sort out in the end. I’d recommend checking you are logged in and leaving the app in the background before losing internet connection.
I returned my Apple AirPod Max’s due to the significant weight and uncomfortable feel. These Bose headphones are incredibly light. I wondered if there was anything in the box when it arrived! You could wear these on your head all day. The sound is incredible and you hear new layers to favourite songs. Slick design. Easy to use. Great battery life and you can turn these headphones off (unlike AirPod maxs). Amazing however
There are a few reasons why I would not recommend these however:
1. The price: they are overpriced.
2. The quality: The AirPod max’s feel premium, these don’t. I would say they feel more premium than the XM5s, but still not great.
3. Bumps: I don’t like how you can feel and see the drivers inside the ear cups, they are like a bump. Feels tacky.
4. Also, they creak. This is pretty annoying especially when you have noise cancelling on. For the price you would expect to have no cheap creaking. I have seen this on other reviews.
5. Noise cancelling is very good, and the adaptive audio or the transparency mode is not as good as apples sadly.
6. The case: they come with a case which is great (unlike AirPod max) but you have to fold the headphones in a certain way to get them to zip inside the case. I have yet to do it first time.
I have owned 2 pairs of the quiet comforts over the past 8 years and loved them. Even though the ultra headphones were a little more than I wanted to spend, I figured I’d give them a try and return them if I wasn’t impressed. Unfortunately, I’m OBSESSED. The sound quality is as amazing as expected… it’s the more subtle features that made me obsessed. They connect to two devices seamlessly and I have experienced ZERO skipping. The way the music pauses when I move ear cup away from my ear (someone is always interrupting my flow) and then turns back on when I replace it is super convenient. The immersive depth feature is really fun and makes it easier to wear the headphones for longer periods of time. The comfort is unbeatable. I am very sensitive to heavy, tight, and hot headphones. These feel like wearing nothing, with just enough pressure to feel secure. I also like that they look unassuming so it doesn’t make me nervous someone will want to steal them. The ability to easily switch between immersion modes with a quick button is great for London commuting – you can hear the train announcements but block out all the screeching.
Also, not directly related to these headphones, but in case you are also considering the Sony’s: I also tried the Sony WH-1000XM5 and absolutely hated how they made my head feel pressurized. I returned them for the milder XM4s and was generally happy with the quality but noticed the bluetooth connectivity sort of “skipped” which really grated on my nerves. I tried only connecting to one device but it still skipped. I also disliked the voice command feature – I like to sing along which would pause my music so I turned this setting off but it kept turning itself on so I’d have to go back to the app to manually override the setting. I’m back to Bose and not looking back!
Okay first of all these are great headphones! I own a pair of apple airpods pro which have noise cancelling but wanted to try and up my game.
First of all Appearance is good, the headphones are a nice slick black with a little light gray trim. The look good and i like them.
Quality wise they are plastic but i think this is for weight reasons. They are also still made to a high standard. They extend smoothly and have a good solid feel to them.
The battery life is good although for the size i feel it could be better. I have now used the for a few hours on two separate days and the battery is now down to 60% so not too bad. A nice touch is that they go into a sleep mode when you remove them from your head so don’t need to keep powering them on and off which is a nice touch. Although this does obviously drain battery very slightly quicker.
The fit is comfortable and the once on you don’t really notice them.
As for the noice cancelling its good, but i feel it could be better. For them being over ear headphones i did expect them to be far better than my airpods pro earbuds. They are.but not to the extent i expected. With noise cancellation on and no music playing you can still hear people talking next to you.i honestly thought they would be better than this. Maybe just me.
Overall they are very good. Value for money i’m not sure.
I have owned bose headphones for years starting with bose q.c.15s wired which I still use as I have converted them to bluetooth with special adaptor, then I upgraded to the qc 35s then to the qc 35 mk 2, each time I upgraded the sound & noise cancelling got better & better…….Then these qc ultra became available, they are very expensive but I decided to give them a go and I have to say they did not disappoint , the sound quality is amazing and the noise cancellation must be the best in the market, when I put them on with tv on normal volume even with no music playing it’s virtually completely silent, I can just about hear the tv, I guess this must be like to be deaf, the app works well, there is an equaliser and other adjustments to suit ones personal requirements, where this is useful I found is the short cut because when you listen to whatever your listening to like music or watching video and you have switched the sound to immersion you have a choice of settings like off, still, or motion but there is no way of changing this on the headphones but this can be added to headset from the app to the volume controller , now let me just say to control the volume on the headset there is a touch control on the right earcup, so once you’ve added this operation to this function the volume control has then got two functions, so to change the volume up or down just slide your finger up down the raised ridge, or to change the other immersion function just touch and hold the ridge and it will scroll though the different options….Now let’s mention comfort, they are very comfortable, none of this head in a vice feeling that many other brands suffer from, the other great idea that these have is when they are removed the head they automatically shut down into sleep mode and when put back on again they wake up and away you go!!!!! Magic, I purchased the smoke white and I must say they look very expensive. The build quality is excellent, as is the storage case, unless I get a fault with them I will be glad to keep and enjoy the best pair of headphones I’ve ever heard or owned. Well done Bose, these are King of headphones. Just to mention one other thing, I read a review below mine stating that the headphones this person in the eu purchased were not up to standard and had scratches on one of the earcups. To check they are brand new there is a tear off seal on the bose box which has to be torn off, if this is not in intact contact your seller before use……
*Please be aware this review is being written from a totally blind person’s perspective. *
As I’ll be one of the first to review these headphones due to how new they are, I’ll try to go into as much detail as possible. First off, upon opening the box, you are greeted by a simple layout. The box purely contains the case and the manual. The case is more of an oval shape compared to the NC700, which is more of a square. Inside the case you’ll find the headphones, USB C to A charging cable and an audio cable if you want to connect it to a wired source.
Opening the case up, the headphones feel very sleek, around the same size as other pairs, but the first thing I noticed was the fact the cushions mould seamlessly with the headphones, creating a complete seal. There is not that tiny gap like on the NC700 and others. What I liked immediately though was the fact the cushions slip into place with the use of six little tabs which simply snap into place. It’s a lot easier, for me at least, than trying to line them up with a tiny crack as with previous designs.
When you turn them on, they have to be on both ears to activate, so Bose can use its tuning technology to personalise to the shape of your ears. This has to be done every time you put them on, turning them on with only one earcup in place won’t work.
They truly live up to their name of ‘quiet comfort,’ I am wearing them right now as I type this, and you can almost forget you’re wearing headphones, you can hardly feel them, they almost mould to your head. They truly do hug your ears. The most comfortable pair I’ve ever owned. I also like how the Bluetooth and power button is slightly indented, whereas the multi-function button is perfectly smooth. The volume strip is also able to be felt, and I love how you just swipe it with a finger to change the volume, and you can also configure a shortcut to it, in the Bose Music App.
Now moving on to connecting them, it’s just the same as with previous Bose headphones. Turn them on, you’ll hear the tone, and then the voice prompt will tell you they are ready to connect. Select your device and away you go. You can also store up to 8 Bluetooth devices in the headphones, which is a nice feature.
The noise cancelling is without doubt the best I have heard yet. You can hardly hear anything when it’s on ‘quiet’ mode. You can also adjust the level of ANC you want, plus in aware mode, there are also ‘active sense’ settings, which block out loud noises by briefly turning on ANC, then turn it off again when the sound stops. This is good for if you’re in a restaurant and a blender starts up, for example. These also have ‘wind block’ which mutes the microphones for NC while you’re on a call, so you don’t hear the wind against them. The person on the other end will still hear it though.
Now the highlight, the immersive audio. I personally think it’s incredible. I’ve heard details in my music I’d never heard before, it gives the song or other content a completely new layer of depth. Bose weren’t kidding about that. I also have the Apple Air pods Max and these knock spots off those for their spacial audio and head tracking. It really does sound like the music is coming from a speaker in front of you, it sounds like the speaker nearest you when you turn your head, whichever way you turn it. I flicked between spacial and stereo, and I tell you what, I’ll never go back. Stereo sounds bland in comparison to this. I will always use spacial now wherever possible. The base is full, as is the treble and mid-range. You don’t miss anything, just like the artist intended. If you’re like me, you won’t go back either!
As soon as I heard these were coming out, I just had to get them. It’s my birthday next month and my family said they would pay for them, but I just had to have them now and wow I do not regret it at all, and neither will you! Just one final note, I researched it last night and Bose will be releasing Ultra ear cushion kits for these headphones soon so we can buy replacements, if necessary, mine will probably wear quickly the amount I’m going to use them. I’ll probably use them on my work laptop too. All in all, yes, their pricey, but your ears will thank you, for both the superior comfort and second to none sound at the same time. Worth every penny, happy listening!
Edit: (Because I struggled with this too,) if you want to clear the Bluetooth list and start over, press the power and multi-function buttons at the same time for a few seconds while the headphones are on, until the voice says ‘bluetooth device list cleared.’
