Lots of fu
My kids really love doing these and this was lots of fun combining their love of the activity and the gems!!! It makes tonnes of mess so be prepared to clean up but it’s relatively quick and easy to do in a kitchen or even better outside. The gens are fun and then you can continue playing with them. A good activity for a quiet afternoon.

I actually made a whole event out of this and stuck in the ground outside so that we could be real geologists.
The experience was great and hopefully my daughter remembers it for the next time the subject is covered.
Keeps you busy for a while but gems quite small

I ordered this gemstone Dig kit for my nephew so we could do it together when he came over and he is 7 but he did enjoy doing this.

There was some really good things we liked about this gemstone kit and they are that this is one of the larger Dig kits we have used and that meant it took longer to get all the gems. This is great as kids will be occupied for sometime. We were really impressed with everything you get with this set and enjoyed using it all.
However we did find that the gems all though you get quite a lot of gems they are quite small as you can see from my picture. Ny nephew was a little disappointed as he had dug for ages and then it eas only a small reward in his eyes. He did enjoy getting all the gems and reading on the cards about each one and he has kept all the gems in the bag in his room and keeps showing his friends about each gem.
There is a growing crystal as well which you need to put boiling water in a plastic cup with some crystal powder and stir for 5 mins and then add the crystal seed them leave for 5-7 days for it to grow. I obviously had to do this myself and my nephew said he felt that it’s not great if kids can’t do all of it themselves without any help. It also didn’t give you any information about what the chemical powder was and how dangerous it is. As you can see from the pictures it does infact grow but again it’s very small compared to the pictures and also I checked it after 24 hours as I was very impatient and it had already grown and after leaving it for the week still it didn’t grow anymore which was a little disappointing.
My nephew said he liked the idea of growing a crystal but he was not very impressed with the size of it and also he said he felt he didn’t really get to do that part of the kit as I had to do it for him
I would say this would be a nice gift for any child who is interested in gems and archaeology I do think the price is OK and I would recommend this product. I just wish it had bigger gems even if it had less gems but bigger that would be great.
Comprehensive ki
Having bought a similar kit several years ago, I’m in a good position to review and compare this kit.
This set is very well thought out and everything needed is included. As well as the tools for digging & cleaning the ‘finds’, there are protective/safety items such as goggles, a dust mask, and a tablecloth/dust sheet.
The set is very messy. There’s no getting away from the fact that these kits create a lot of dust. This time of year is ideal as the digging can be done outdoors!
The range of gems is very good, and there are some unusual inclusions, which my son didn’t have from previous purchases.
Also included is a Crystal growing kit. Again, this is something we’ve done before, but my son loved doing it again. It’s quick and easy to set up, but takes around a week to finish growing.
Very impressive set. Great value for money. Would recommend.
Really good gemstone ki
This is a really good gemstone kit, we get quite a few of these because my 7 year old is obsessed and this is one of the better ones. The rock to bash is very large and takes quite a long time to get through. I loved the fact it also came with a crystal growing kit which extends the enjoyment of the product, as this is a task that takes a week to complete and see the results.
It probably is worth saying though that this is a kit probably only suitable for ages 7 and up as the crystal growing kit requires you to pour boiling water into a cup and I wouldn’t let a younger child do that.
It does come with a lot of things including goggles and a dust sheet, which was very welcome as the dust tends to go everywhere.
Overall, very much recommended.

This set is lots of fun. It comes really nicely packaged so would make a really nice gift. My daughter really enjoyed playing with this. It’s all really great quality and really good value for money.

I was very pleased to receive this product, at the time I received it, it was priced at 16.99 less a 2 voucher and I consider this to be good value for money. It was well packaged.
This gave my grandson an hour of fun – he absolutely loved it. Such a satisfying game.

Kids loved this, but be ready - it's MESSY!
This kit kept the kids busy for hours, and they absolutely loved it. They took turns digging, and it comes with everything you need to get setup (please note, the green table cover with the lip was my sisters), this kit comes with a big blue and white table cloth that can be used to cover your table).
If it were up to the kids they would give this a 5 out of 5. However, it gets very messy, we had clay everywhere (even though they were supervised throughout) and had the tablecloth and the extra table cover with sides (not included). It took forever to try and clean up all the bits.

The accessories were not the best quality (the magnifying glass broke, and they ended up using just the plastic lens).
Cool idea
This is a cool idea and my nephew enjoyed it a lot. Only issue is they were quite hard to break open and it’s definitely something you would have to do for your child, which kind of takes away the fun for them.
Plenty to dig up!
I’ve done a few of these digs kits with the children previously, but this was the first one from Amazon Vine and the children loved it!
Because of the size of this kit, it was perfect for my two children, as they started at each side and worked their way towards the middle. The material used to build this kit was just the right combination of soft and solid. It didn’t give way too easily but provided enough challenge to entertain for almost an hour!
The kit comes with a single set of tools and can be used to brush, smash and pick away at the mud to find the several buried stones and gems. Even once found, there’s still plenty to do. You can use the magnifying glass to inspect all of the stones, learn more about each one with the included learning cards and of course the final bit of smashing needed to uncover the geode. The kit also comes with a crystal growing kit which is a nice addition.
The kit also includes a pair of goggles and a dust sheet. Both are useful additions to a very messy kit!

The vendors description, measurements and pictures are accurate and correct.
This product is fabby for any little budding geologist. It has loads of interest factors: digging for many gems, cracking open a geode and growing crystals for themselves. It comes with a few tools with which to find the gems.
My 11y daughter loved playing with this kit, and was absolutely fascinated by the geode.
Be aware though, that the digging for the gems does cause quite a bit of dust!
I highly recommend this product and think it would make an amazing gift.
Kids had a blast with i
I have a large crystal collection that I keep in a display cabinet, my kids are always asking to play with them but due to how fragile and expensive they are I have to always say no. It came across this gemstone digging kit and thought it was something they would be interested in. They absolutely loved it and my daughter has even asked if she could start collecting stones like mummy does.
It comes with a large mound that the kids have to dig through with the supplied tools in order to find assorted gems, crystals and stones. Also included is a crystal growing kit that does take about a week to fully form. There’s a geode included which can be broken open to reveal crystals inside. There is also a bunch of stone so the kids can start their own collection. It came with a tablecloth to help protect the table, safety goggles, all the tools needed to dig and to grow the crystal. As I said, my kids loved it and I think it’s definitely worth the money. It would make a lovely gift for a kids birthday.
Nice set but there is a chemical involved
This is an interesting set for exploring gems and geology. It comes with everything you need. However, there is an important step of the process which involved preparing a chemical cocktail. You need to boil water and add it to the chemicals. There is no proper warning regarding safe use and toxicity. I did not feel safe using it without this additional information, especially because I suffer from allergies.
Better For Older Childre
I ordered the Gemstones Dig Kit. This is a brilliant kit. There is the main dig with all the equipment. This includes finding the geode, which then needs to be cracked open. You also get the crystal growing set, which takes about a week to finish growing. There are some information cards about each crystal, so you can learn a bit about each one. I would say it is not suitable for very young children and would be better suited to ages 7 to 10. You will need to supervise and get involved as well. I think this is a great fun kit which will also teach your children a little bit whilst they have fun. I can definitely recommend it.
Nice little experimental kit.
I’ve had the pleasure of watching my kids explore this gemstone dig kit for the past week, and it’s been a delightful experience for them. The kit is well-made, and the tools included make the excavation process feel very authentic. The hammer, chisel, brush, goggles, and magnifying glass are all sturdy and just the right size for small hands. Overall a fun experience for the kids.
Such a good kit, lots to find and do
My kids totally love these things, so this was a great set to get, there seems to be more to do and to get out of this kit compared to others (even branded ones)
This is great for kids to just get into collecting crystals and rocks. For a STEM educational gift it really is great as you can a bit more than just chip away at the plaster to get to your rocks, there is a grow your own crystal experiment, and think the fact not comes with a mask and a table cloth to keep the dust from your children’s faces n lungs and off the table top too. Great well thought out.
Especially if you have a tactile child who doesn’t like things like dust near their faces etc.
