Samsung Magician software
The user-friendly software solution helps you to always keep an eye on your SSD. With it, you can keep your drive up-to-date with updates, monitor status parameters and speed, and even optimise performance.
¹ The theoretical best possible sequential read speed of PCIe 4.0 is 8,000 MB/s – the 990 PRO achieves 7,450 MB/s.
² Sequential and random write performance measured with TurboWrite intelligent technology enabled. Intelligent TurboWrite only works within a certain data transfer size. Performance may vary based on SSD firmware, system hardware and configuration, and other factors. For detailed information, please contact your local service center.
³ Test System Configuration: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor CPU @ 3.80GHz, DDR4 3600MHz 16GB x 2 (PC4-25600 Overclock), OS – Windows 10 Pro 64bit, Chipset – ASRock-X570 Taich.
⁴ To maximize the performance of 990 PRO, please check Intel or AMD website if your system supports PCIe 4.0.
⁵ 980 PRO Sequential Read Speed – 1129/877 MB/Watt, 990 PRO Sequential Read Speed – 1380/1319 MB/Watt based on internal testing results of 1TB capacity model.
⁶ Supported by Microsoft’s Direct Storage feature.

Works fine on Linux Mi
The 990 Pro brought new life to an aging P8Z68 PC now running Mint. No compatibility issues seen. All good.

Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD, 4 TB
Nice NVME drive and very quick. However, If like me, I thought I had bought the wrong drive when I got the WD SN850X 4TB. However during the recent Amazon sale I decided to go for the Samsung 990 PRO to test it out. A fast drive for sure but not blazing so as the results are almost negligable. So if your on the fence about drive, the Western Digital or Samsung just go for the cheapest one. Really nothing in it performance wise. Both gaming mode for the WD was on and full performance mode for the Samsung was on so a fair test.
Super fast and with built-in encryption so that it doesn't slow down your compute
In a short word, and having 8 Samsung SSDs in three different machines, I have yet to experience a failure … Super reliable, super fast and this particular model has built-in encryption hence you get the safety without your main processor having to do the work and slow down the machine (this feature has to be activated through Samsung Magician software which can be downloaded only).
Hence, you can decide if you want SSD maximum output speed or slightly reduced speed and encryption which is important for laptop use.
Love it!
I bought this drive to replace my crucial p5 for no reason what so ever other than to have another drive in my Samsung magician software because my windows is a 980 pro.
I wanted more storage and that was it. Installed, booted up, Samsung firmware update and done.
The drive is behind my gpu with the motherboard cooler over it and temps are below 50c which is fine. Mostly gaming it’s 45c which is perfectly fine considering my 4090 love a bit of heat sometimes.
A good quick drive. What can I say.
Bought on Black Friday
I got two of these in a Black Friday deal, but I would have been hesitant paying full price.
Thus far they are working well with my Z790 Proart motherboard, and providing me with plenty of storage and speed.
