High quality SS Fork
Bought to match the stainless steel spade, same high quality with tough stainless steel and a rigid wooden handle, forks don’t bend like they do on cheaper tools – recommended
Good garden fork
Another good S&J product, as a garden fork this is really good, just don’t dig rocks out of your garden or the spines will bend. Little rocks fine, but I hooked some builders rubble in the corner of my garden and ended up bending 2/4 spines. Fork still works, just annoying to have bent those 2 spines.
It has a beautiful stainless steel head with a wonderful lightweight wooden shaft and handle. Really sturdy and works really well for aerating the soil and turning it over. As for the people saying it broke, I strongly believe they weren’t using it properly or for its intended purpose.
Mostly good
It’s a good garden fork. However, I was expecting it to be blue in colour. It said blue on the box too but when it came it was a boring brown. Still, never mind. It does the job in the garden OK so the colour doesn’t matter much.
It’s not very strong handle
I bought this as my old spade handle broke . But not I have noticed over time the handle loosened off at the top joints , so you have to be careful as it’s not heavy duty in my opinio
Well made
Great bit of kit. New it would be. Dug over garden today with a lot of tough roots. A cheap fork would have bent. Love my new fork and I’m sure it will surpass the 10 year guarantee and some
Snapped with light use so was very disappointed. However, S&J customer service were brilliant and sent a replacement under 10 year warranty. Thank you. Amazon customer service not so great – cut me off mid chat. Quite surprised as usually very good
Top Quality
Superb quality garden fork – purchased as a replacement for what had been a decent Wilco brand fork. The fork was certainly fit for the purpose of removing mature shrubs and turning over soil. Very pleased with the purchase price too!
Great fork
For the price these are going in garden centres and other retail places this was a bargain with it being stainless steel it glides through the soil and with a curled up design makes it easier to use than a straight desig
Strong, Sturdy, Solid Garden Fork.
I was looking for a strong, easy to use, sturdy, solid steel garden fork to replace my old reliable fork which I have had over 20yrs and refuse to throw out even though it was bent and twisted because it well as described. I have looks for ages on-line and in stores. This is so perfect for me. Easy to use and gets the job done, seem really strong and sturdy, at a nice price and hopefully will last for many years too. I would recommend this fork. Thank you.
As usual, excellent quality from Spear and Jackson. The tool comes with a warning that it is only for tilling and light garden use. Anything more and heavier equipment is needed (Crowbar). These tools are not for levering bricks and rocks out of your garden. I like the wooden shaft. It is warm to use in the colder months, when we turn the soil. Comfortable in the hand and with care can last a lifetime (Linseed oil loves wood).
The part where you place your foot is wide enough not to be uncomfortable and the fork is strong so does not flex. Being stainless steel steel it will last. I coat my tools with light oil to prolong life, even stainless steel can corrode eventually. Great addition to my garden tools.
Does the job
I went out with the intention of clearing the overgrown Jumanji aka the garden out back. My fianc has broken every garden fork so far within days of me buying them so this was yet another replacement. Although he is now barred from touching it ( much to his delight as he hates gardening or any type of house or garden maintenance) it has been used numerous times and still in one piece despite tree the fact it’s being used to clear out some heavy roots
Firstly this is a great garden fork, strong and nice to use.
However, 2 years after I bought it, I managed to snap it in half (too much leverage, trying to move a plant).
I noticed it had a 10 year guarantee sticker on, tried to contact Amazon, there is no facility on Amazon for customer feedback after 2 years, so I contacted Spear and Jackson.
Well their customer service is outstanding. I don’t usually write reviews but this made me make the effort.
They replied: ‘I can see from the pictures and the receipt you’ve attached that you are eligible for a Free of Charge replacement under the 10 year guarantee.’
No hassle, no postage fee and now I have a lovely replacement fork.
Looks grea
I broke mine, but to be fair I was putting 16st of weight on it while trying to lever out an evil plant in our garden, it snapped and I have since set fire to the plant and killed it with fire instead, you could buy one of these, or just some BBQ fluid and a lighter…
This is a very pretty fork, which would look good in anyone’s tool shed. I can thoroughly recommend it if your soil is friable and easily worked, e.g. a vegetable bed, which has been dug regularly each season and has benefitted from the regular addition of compost. If yours is a new garden, however, say on a new housing estate, where the builder has buried the usual rubble of half bricks, wall ties and timber offcuts, this is not the fork for you.
The manufacturer warns against using it to lever up roots and the like but frankly this is a tad disingenuous. The soil in my garden is sandy and therefore very light. I had recently had some landscaping work carried out as a result of which the soil had become compacted and I wanted to fork it over to loosen it and to remove perennial weeds. For 90% of the time the fork worked well. It was light to use, it penetrated the soil easily and the soil did not cling to the tines. But then I would come across a piece of buried root. The root would be less than 2 cm in diameter and less than 0.5 m long but, if one of the end tines caught on it, the tine would bend. It is inevitable, when digging, that you will hit buried objects. The heavier the soil, the more force is required to dig it and the more likely it is that such things will happen. Which is why I say that the manufacturer’s warning is disingenuous.
It is a very attractive fork. It is light to use and to keep clean. But, it is not a fork for digging. It is a fork for forking.
Although not used yet, it looks sturdy and good quality, it a garden fork afterall!
After using this fork to spike a 15m x 10m lawn (clay soil), I’m impressed. The fork is robust and feels solid.
The only nice to have would be a slightly thicker top to the steel fork as this would help reduce pressure on the sole of your feet when pushing the fork into clay or dense souls.
One point I find absolutely ridiculous is on delivery, the fork was encased in a large study cardboard box. However on opening, after wading through a load of scrunched up paper for padding, another sturdy cardboard box appears containing the fork and load more padding!
Its a garden fork made of steel and heavy wood for goodness sake so not likely to be delicate and be damaged in transit, the amount of padding and cardboard was completely unwarranted and must have doubled the original weight, not to mention the amount of wasted materials that will require re cycling. Come on Amazon, put a little thought and consideration into things!!
