Okay for the money, but not a long-term solution for an outdoor cam
As you might expect, this camera comes in basic packaging that indicates it’s a generic product. It is not going to impress anyone as a present/gift based on its brandname. However, it does a decent job of protecting the contents, which is what matters the most.

Here are my main pros and cons for this device:

Pro:

Video is reasonably clear and detailed at max 4MP setting
Good night-vision
Detection systems work well
Quite a low of features on a relatively small unit
Useful field of view

Con:

Not great build quality
App is a bit quirky, not exactly intuitive
Accessing and reviewing video is slow and sometimes freezes

Firstly, this is really an app-controlled device so you need to be okay with using a smartphone. This is one of the modern style of cheap(ish) wireless indoor/outdoor security cams. It seems to be only available in white, although the face is black.

This ‘surveillance cam’ is an offshoot of webcam technology, and produces images of that quality. You aren’t going to get even 1080p broadcast quality out if this, not even close, nor should you expect it at this price. The 1440p and above video and images are average for a cam like this, but are certainly up to the job of home security.

The motion detection is actually quite good and does tend to focus on humans rather than bird shadows or leaves in the wind. Large objects like cars will also trigger it however, so you should angle it away from the road unless you want it being activated every minute or so. The live picture is stable and detailed enough to recognise people easily. Even in low light the shutter-speed is high enough to stop motion blur and give clear faces.

There is a 2-way voice option which I think is mostly used for talking to pets. I suppose you could frighten a criminal in the middle of the night. The stated use is for talking to guests at the door, but I don’t know anyone who would actually use it for that.

The app is generally decent although the layout could be a lot more intuitive, it has its quirks for sure. The alerts will grab your attention, which is good to see.

If you can get this for under 35 then I think it’s worth it, more than that and I think you should compare carefully to its very similar competitors.

Overall this is very much an entry-level security camera, hence the low price. How long it will last outdoors in high humidity and low temperatures is not clear, if it was exposed to actual rain it would be gone very soon.

Keep it dry and you may get a year out of it, long enough to know if you want to buy a ‘proper’ security camera system.
