I bagged this for 44, this is a huge improvement on a similar model by Phillips that I had for over a decade. I’m absolutely amazed how smooth and efficiently it cuts. I’ve owned a few back extending body groomers as well as an older Philips model I mentioned and they’ve always irritated my skin to an extent.
Absolutely no irritation at all and Phillips are true to their word. This is a really nice product and worth every penny. Having a lithium battery means it’s very fast charging and will tolerate a bit of abuse. I imagine this will last many years and a nice modern twist that you can plug it into a usb phone charge
Best body groomer/ back shaver I've tried
I have tried many body groomers, have wet shaved and used the battery ones with a trimming “blade” like the Mangroomer, have tried those ornately handled hair trimmers, but this beats them all. If like me you have pretty coarse body hair, and like me you doubted whether a foil shaver could “cut it”, doubt no more! The trimmers on either side of the foil catch longer hair and mean you can shave in either direction, making two passes at least, catching all the hairs, as not all will grow in one direction. Charges quickly, each charge lasts three full body shaves for me. And you can replace the blades which say they last a full year. Excellent purchase 🙂

I recently purchased this as I always rock with Philips or Sony whenever I can as I know what I’m getting in terms of quality and longevity. I will echo someone’s comment on here that they still got a slight nick whilst using this, but certainly nothing to complain about too much, as overall, my experience so far using this has been good.

Just about dose what it meant to
For maintaining body areas i would say this dose the trick great.
It work to shave hair of the body without cuts but it take quite a lot of work had to go over the same point 5-8 times to remove the hair and if you are after a truely close shave might want to get someting else.
It's efficient and doesnt scratch!
Quality product from a very well known brand….I bought a Mangroomer a few years ago and it didnt work very well. It scratched your body, took many attempts to remove hair and was more expensive than the Philips BG 5020. It became worse over time and I ended up throwing it out. An expensive cheap & nasty
The BG 5020 is excellent. It arrived today and I’ve just used it. I’ve removed all the hair from my back, chest & stomach with the help of a double mirror. Most of the hair simply fell off immediately. My chest hair was a bit more stubborn and took a few attempts! My shower will thank me for this as I keep getting hair stuck in the plughole!
I see that you can buy replacement heads for the shaver – they are much cheaper than a new shaver. Yes, I like this product very much
I would have given this product a 5-star review, if the video they show was actually accurate, but 4 stars it is.
let me premise this review with the following, (1) never used a body Hair trimmer before (2) was not expecting the results I got from this is trimmer, (3) I’m quite a hairy person.
so first, the battery life lives up to expectations A+, cannot fault the battery life.
The waterproof feature A+ works well in the wet and dry.
I was expecting the trimmer to just trim hair, not completely remove it, on that front I was pleasantly surprised. However, the video shows that a single pass along the hair removes all the hair, this is blatantly NOT TRUE, it takes some effort to remove the hair, and had to do 4-5 passed over the same area before the hair was removed. if I was Philips, I’d remove that video and put some more true/accurate. The back hair extender is a little flimsy, didn’t always get the angle needed, and sometimes it locked out of position, but got the job done more or less. the cradle did keep the trimmer secure and the trimmer never came out once. so, to summarize, more or less happy with the trimmer, does require some welly to get the job done. I did research alternate trimmers/ blades and came to conclusion this was the best solution without cutting up my skin. I hope to use this trimmer for the next few years, also Philips offered an extra year warranty when u register the product online. so, an extra bonus there.
Positives- Let me just say I’m excessively hairy front and back. I used to get a friend to apply hair removal cream on my back. Excellent results, but incredibly messy and time consuming, not to mention the smell. The body groomer charges fully in about an hour, I usually get 2/3 uses at around 20x minutes a time from it before a recharge is required. I find it a great product and easy to use. I can now shave my own back without assistance huge plus.
Negatives- the body groomer won’t shave to zero like a razor or anything like hair removal cream, I didn’t expect it to. However it shaves closely. This is good enough for me. You will need to be patient and do many passes to trim down sufficiently. After your first attempt you will become more efficient at shaving and it will take less time. I don’t recommend anyone using this groomer who has a excessively spotty back. I only went over one spot, then blood dripping down my back!!
Overall- a good product, the only real answer I can see to trim ones own back and not involve others. Product is expensive to my mind and the price has fluctuated a lot in the last year or so. I bought a damaged box item, other than box damaged as stated item is perfect as far a I can see. When you get used to it, you will be glad you bought it. My only wish is that it would shave even closer.
First, let’s get the negative out of the way. The instructions. They are just a series of images with a tick to indicate ‘yes, do it this way’ or an X to indicate ‘no, that’s wrong’
The problem is some of the images look identical and have both a tick and a cross. Had they taken the time to include some text with each image it might have been easier to work out, so for that reason, I’m giving a 4 and not a 5, I found this method a little confusing.
Ok, now the positives. I’m in my 50’s, so body scaping is not something that has always been part of my trimming routine. I used to play sports and did trim in areas that may have been on public display in the showers etc because no one wants to look overgrown in the body hair department.
A while back i started to use an electric trimmer, which was probably meant to be used on sideburns or a moustache as it was a facial trimmer rather than one designed for the body, it was more efficient than scissors but I didn’t go too short.
This trimmer works like a dream, it has different length comb/guards so you can decide what length to leave hair. Bear in mind, it’s for use from the neck down. Some may want to ‘bodyscape’ while others may want the smooth look. This trimmer will let you do both. For instance I didn’t realise how much hair I had on my back, or how much fuzz there was till I went to the hospital to have a mole removed, the nurses had to shave the area around the mole and I was shocked at the amount of hair that was on the razor, hence my reason for buying this trimmer. It comes with an easy to use attachment that lets you use it on your back, and it works great, letting you reach the whole of your back. I started trimming with the small comb protector on then went down to the actual razor foil and my back looks like it did when I was a teenager, hair free and smooth again!
It was the first time I charged the unit and it came with a charge already on it so only took a few minutes to get it fully ready, it still had loads of power when I was done so I’ll re-edit this in a few weeks to see how long it takes after a few uses to get back to fully loaded.
All in all a great product, I feel so much cleaner now that I’ve used the trimmer in other areas as well.
