PLOT…
After raising an unnervingly talented spider in secret, 12-year-old Charlotte must face the facts about her pet-and fight for her family’s survival-when the once-charming creature rapidly transforms into a giant, flesh-eating monster.
I really enjoyed Sting! A great modern creature feature which is really well made and balances everything just right, right from the start we discover its primarily a sci-fi horror which makes it more fun for the filmmakers to play around with it. Its a slow burner to start and gets more and more gory and gross as it plays out, its a tight set and a small cast which works really well, the cast was all good and I liked the characters, the young actress that plays lead girl Alyla Browne is very good. The movie is very good at building tension and fear especially if you have a deep dread of spiders, the soundtrack is suspenseful and creepy and adds to the vibe, the effects are all good, some nice practical and decent mix of CG, plenty blood where needed not too over the top but a good balance! The spider looks amazing especially when big and is well used, the whole movie reminded me of classic 80’s and 90’s classic creature features especially the classic set up for a sequel towards the end. Well worth checking out this movie, quite a gem of the year and certainly one of the best horror so far.
