Installation Tips

- Go slow. Check every connection. Keep your screws organized.
- Watch a You Tobe video on how to do it though, pausing and replaying often.
- When you are reassembling the Joy con you must be conscious of how tight you are tightening the screws as that will affect how your buttons press.

Installing these was a bit of an effort. Lining up the buttons correctly is ideal otherwise you’ll be opening it up again like I did (see image with misaligned < A). I damaged a three inside which meant a screw came out and had to open the case again and glue that screw in. I don't think the buttons that come with it are very good quality and I only used the z ones and the d pad (you have no choice as it's different from the original case). I used the black ones from the original jojcons otherwise. It would be great if you could work on meeting the same quality as the Nintendo ones. Buy double sided tape or fold over tape to create a double sided effect with this to keep the battery in place.
At first I was sceptical about doing this myself even after watching countless YouTube videos. However, with a little perseverance I was able to change the joy-con shells with no consequences.
The shells fit perfectly and you are provided with many spare parts – including screws, buttons, choice of d-pads, as well as more screw drivers than you know what to do with.
The process is fiddly so I wouldn’t recommend for unsteady hands or the impatient, but it is overall, a simple procedure as long as you follow online guides.
I’m very happy with the product and if I had the patience and the confidence to change the shells regularly, I would buy more from them.
So much better then the last shell i bough
I had previously bought some shells from another company on amazon with very poor results so I took my time this time and listened to peoples reviews and I can say these shells are so much better! Its like going from a Pontins holiday to a week break in the Maldives! East fit and well built and comes with spare screws and springs which are a blessing!
A really nice upgrade to the joy-cons, especially the DPad replacement. They’re not kidding about the difficulty of swapping the JoyCon internals though, there’s many small screws (which are easy to strip – especially the exterior Y00/tri-shaped screws) and several tiny ribbon connectors. Double check everything’s connected and closed before you put the controller shell back together.
You will need:
Pliers/Tweezers
A clean desk or table
Somewhere to store and organise all the screws and pieces
A disassembly/reassembly guide – I highly recommend JerryRigEverything’s clear switch video.
I’d also recommend using Joycon Toolkit and a Windows machine with bluetooth to edit the software colours of the controllers.
5 stars for the final result, but it definitely takes effort and a steady hand to accomplish.
Good quality - easy to fi
These really aren’t as hard to install as all of the reviews say. Granted it took me a while to get everything changed over but as long as you have good screwdrivers and a set of tweezers you will be absolutely fine. Take you time, don’t force anything and it’ll be a breeze. I was very hesitant about taking apart something of such high value, but if you follow a YouTube video tutorial and go slow you’ll be able to do this with no issues. The only reason this isn’t a 5 star review is I found the kickstand replacement to be very weak (not that I really play in tabletop mode so it didn’t really bother me) it just doesn’t feel as strong as the original. Everything else feels solid and such a good feeling to have a d-pad for 2d sidescolling platform games.
Perfect, best shell I've purchased
I’ve tried the other transparent shells and the quality for them were just awful. Super glossy, flimsy and not fitting together perfect and it bulging out all the time
HOWEVER
These shells are absolutely fantastic, transparent red fits together fantastic, I used the d pad from another set and default black buttons but apart from that, the sl and sr on side, trigger buttons etc all fit perfectly. It’s a matt finish for textured grip, feels more premium and less low budget fake feeling.
Honestly would buy again if I had spare joy con’s, now I have a solid set with a d pad
